She was relieved to know there was still a connection with the spiders. They werenât her spiders so to speak, but she could still see out of them if she concentrated hard enough. It made tracking large swarms easier to find. The easiest kind of damage control. If only the rest was so simple. After collecting another large swarm that found its way inside a parkâs water fountain, Gwen needed a brief update through the Ant comms.
âTigra to Anthill. Do you copy, over?â âThis is Anthill, over?â âHowâs it going shutting off the pipelines, over.â âItâs going as fast as it can. Ghostâs still tracking down accurate blueprints I requested. Iâm afraid manually will have to suffice for now. Over.â
Gwen didnât like the sound of that. If the mutated spiders were in the water systems who knows how many have already been exposed to it. After Scottâs accurate hunch, closing the main water systems was the next step to minimizing exposure. It wasnât much, but it was something. Better than nothing at least. Gwen sighed heavily in the walkie, âYeah, itâs something. Over.â
âHey, itâs progress. Weâll get there. Over.â She pinched her lips together to avoid them quivering in anxiety. âYeahâŚ.â A weak attempt to seem hopeful. âKeep me posted?⌠Over.â S t a t i c. âOf course, Tigra la Muerteface. Over and out.â A click concluded the conversation. A side smile formed when Scott used her unnecessarily long codename. However, a short lived smile as something relative to a spider sense numbed her head. Like half her brain fell asleep and static interference. As if the quarantine wasnât dark enough, the thing that loomed a shadow over her small frame brought a new meaning to the dark as it swooped down. Gwen managed to lean upward to avoid the dive bomb just by a hair. Vulture? Was her first thought.
Warren liked the new body he was given with the symbiote. Granted he was always someone with a dark side there was something about being able to shoot fire from his mouth that was a lot more entertaining.Â
There was no struggle initially when he had chosen to bind, heâd maintained just enough control over himself to be comfortable. Heâs done things like this before, & therefore this was nothing to him, but still he was there to be at the whims of his symbiote. What it wanted was to be reunited with its mother. There was little resistance, & Warren agreed to check out the situation.Â
He would, of course, use fear to intimidate the thing they symbiote had a maternal affection to. It didnât take too long to track this person, & once he saw her, he knew that at the very least he would be able to have a little fun with her. He flew in, with his bat-like wings spread to incite terror. He was close enough to capture a hint of her scent to confirm that she was the one.Â
âMotherâŚâ He hissed, before flying in too close again. âI heard you calling for me.âÂ
That was a lie, of course, considering had come in from his own volition. He hovered atop her, eyes glowing in the dim lights. He didnât recognize this girl, but he had no interest in more than the petty introductions.Â
