@with-a-plan
He plastered on the smile he knew would work, the one he always used when he wanted something. âHey, Momma.â
âOkay, these names youâre calling me are killing my street-cred.â âAw. And what would you like me to call you?â âIâd like you to call me Mad Dog.â âYou donât seem like a Mad Dog to me.â âWell, what do I seem like to you?â âYou know that lamb that Mary had?â âI donât like the way that this is going.â
Yasha Stark
Son of Shane Barnes, Sarah Rogers, and EJ Stark
Has his own Iron Man Armor (Mack 59)
Being groomed to be the teamâs second-in-command
Has a bit of his father (Shane) lurking beneath his âgolden boyâ surface.
âIâm a confident, level-headed guy whoâs obviously been cursed by a sorceress!â
Anthony James Stark
Goes by Jamie
Son of Sarah Rogers, Shane Barnes, and EJ Stark.
Has his own version of the Iron Man Armor (as all Stark men do, Mack 63)
Has the potential to be a leader someday â once heâs grown up a bit and separated himself from his parents (mother).
She had thought losing Yasha was the hardest thing she would ever have to endure â watching as he (in the suit) took a nosedive. One ending in a fiery crash that they had all been certain no person could survive. Even a search of the site had turned up nothing but piles of ash and pieces of dented metal. He was gone.
Or so they had thought. But the fight this morning had led Zarya down a different path, given her a different train of thought. There was a shooter. A manâŠwell, he was barely more than a boy, but still. She knew him. They could do anything they wanted to him â dress him up, hide his face, but sheâd still know him.
Yasha.
Grabbing weapons from the armory, she began loading up duffle bags. Yasha was alive and like hell she was going to sit around and wait. No. She was going to get her boy back.
There wasnât much he remembered; just a room, doctors, and metal fused tight to his right arm. Panic set in and the next time he woke, the red and yellow paint was gone, leaving his arm encased in silver metal. Then had come the pain and the implanting; his muscles had remembered but the implants had made him better.
From then on out, he was in the field, pulling off missions handed down by his handlers. His most current taking him into the streets of New York. Complications arose and there was a girl...
...and he knew her. He knew her...and then she was gone.
Yet there was still a mission to complete.
"Hey, Mom? I think I need new clothes again." He held his jeans up against him, the bottom of legs of them coming a few inches above his ankle. (jamie)
âI think you are going to join your Dad and Brother in this height thing. Who said you could keep growing, hmm?â She smiled, shaking her head. âThink you can stand an afternoon of shopping with your mom?â
He chuckled and tossed the old, outgrown jeans aside. âI think Dad did,â he teased before giving her a nod. âI think I can handle that.â
âBastard.â Sarah grinned. âClearly Iâm going to have to have a talk with him.â But in the meantimeâŠâ
She grabbed her keys and purse from the small desk in the kitchen (right next to where her calendar and day planner sat), motioning towards the garage. âWestbury Plaza it is.â Or more accurately, âthe Gallery at Westbury Plazaâ.
Jamie laughed as she grabbed her stuff from her desk in the kitchen, the one that held all the information they ever needed to know, and headed towards the garage. âCan we get lunch while weâre out?â
He walked up beside his papa and grinned as he looked down, ruffling his papas hair. (jamie)
âYouâre lucky youâre my kid. Â I bite your father when he does that. Â Needless to say he doesnât do it anymore.â
He tugged his son into a hug. Â âI wonât ever actually bite you, kid.â
He hugged his papa and let out a sigh of relief. âGood to know.â
with-a-plan:
Yeah, Shane suspected he actually could - but that he was letting Sarah do a lot of this for him because Winnie had always been so independent. Â âJamie, please go to your room. Â Youâre not in trouble but Mommy and I need to talk.â
âShaneâŠâ Sarah turned to her husband, giving him a look. âHow is he supposed to learn if you send him out of the kitchen?â
Jamie looked between his parents. âBut Iâm supposed to help Mom...â
He didn't know if he was more angry or more hurt at how little his papa actually thought of him but neither one kept Jamie from waiting there at the door for him when he finally returned.
Heâd been on his way back in when he saw Jamie waiting at the door for him. Â Clad in just his slacks, he looked at his son in concern. Â âHi, baby. Â Whatâs eating at you?â
âYou didnât listen to hear me tell your father that obviously you werenât incompetent and that clearly you can learn. Â I left because I was frustrated and angry with your parents - I ran it off. Â Didnât go anywhere near Grandma. Â We can call her if youâd like. Â Youâre still enrolled.â Â He leaned back to look at his son.
âSo. Â Look me in the eye and tell me you havenât been purposely allowing your mother to do everything for you because she was upset about Winnie.â
The full explanation managed to get him to cool down; he was still going to go to the school just like he wanted. With a sigh, he finally returned his papaâs hug. Until Shane leans back and tries to get him to meet his eye. Luckily for him, it had become fairly easy to look over his head instead.
âNo. I havenât been letting her do everything because sheâs upset about Winnie.â
Â Whatâs eating at you?â
âYou overheard the conversation.â Â He moved to his son. Â âBaby, you didnât hear the entire thing. Â What I said â I was making a point to your Daddy. Â I wasnât being serious. Â To be honest, Iâm starting to think youâre putting on a lot of this for your motherâs sake. Â That you saw her reaction to Winnie and tried to make up for it. Â I donât think youâre stupid, I donât think youâre incompetent, and I never would rescind your application. Â Your father just made a very dramatic statement and so I called him on it.â Â Shane gathered Jamie in a hug. Â âBaby, I recommended you as second in command after Zarya. Â They had us submit what rank order we thought would be best and that was mine. Â I want you to go to the Academy.â
âYou told him you were going to rescind my application and then you left.â He was still angry but he let Shane pull him into a hug; he wanted to believe what his father said but he knew how most of the family saw him. They all saw the front of the boy who needed his mommy to do everything for him while he skated on by; the front his papa was starting to see through. "You stormed out of here and you didnât go see Grandma?â
Â Whatâs eating at you?â
âSo I guess I should go unpack now, huh?â Heâd overheard the conversation between his three parents and had a feeling he knew exactly where his papa had gone when he left. âI thought I was gonna get out of here but...â there was a dry chuckle as he shoved his hands in his pockets. âI guess I get it; Iâm not super smart like Dad, Iâm not super strong like you, and Iâm not like Mom...but do you really think that Iâm that stupid that I canât handle the academy?â
âOh no - Jamieâs going to learn how to bake cookies. Â Remember what we discussed, Sarah.â Â Shane said as he walked in the room. âKiddo, you gotta learn more how to take care of yourself.â
âAnd he will learn. By observation.â Turning to Jamie, she gave him a soft smile. He might have mentioned something about her being awesome. Once or twice. âPull up a chair, Sweetie. You can watch.â
He pulled one of the stools from the island over so he would be able to watch as she worked on the cookies. âI know how to take care of myself, Papa. And Mom makes the best cookies.â
âSchool bakesaâŠright. No problem. I got this. Four dozen voodoo doll cookies coming right up.â
âThanks, Mom! Have I told you how amazing you are today?â
He walked up beside his papa and grinned as he looked down, ruffling his papas hair. (jamie)
âYouâre lucky youâre my kid. Â I bite your father when he does that. Â Needless to say he doesnât do it anymore.â
Jamie quickly drew his arm back. âSorry, Papa.â
Shane let out a boisterous laugh. Â âI was teasing. Â Youâre my kid, I wonât bite you.â
Jamie visibly relaxed when his papa laughed. âGood.â
He grinned when he saw his papa with his back towards him. Running over, he latched onto his belt, using that to get leverage to climb up his papas back. (yasha)
Shane laughed as little feet sounded behind him. Â To no oneâs surprise, little hands planted on his belt and Yasha climbed up his back. Â Shane easily grabbed Yasha and held him upside down by his ankles in front of him. Â âOh nooo, I got you! Â Iâm really hungry, can I eat you?â
âNooooooo!!!â But the cry was surrounded by more giggles as his papa pretended to bite him and blew a raspberry against his belly. The giggles started to quiet when Shane let him return to his back. âMommy took me to see Ali and Zar Zar today. And Daddy let me have ice cream.â
âDid they? Â Did you have fun, baby boy?â Â He asked with a bright smile, holding him close and stealing a noisy kiss to his sonâs cheek.
âYeah,â he scrunched his nose playfully, giggling as his papa stole a kiss. âCan I play with them again?â
â should he be making that noise? â (Yasha)
âMmmmhmmm.â Smiling at the little boy beside her, Sarah lifted Jamie from his crib before his wailing could disturb the other occupant of the nursery. Feeding time was one of the few times when it was hard being on her own with two infants (and a seven year old). So if Winnie could sleep until she was done feeding Jamie, she would be forever grateful.
âAll babies cry, my little love. Itâs how they tell us they need something. Like right now, your little brother needs to be fed. Want to help me?â
He was still wary of this little brother thing; the new little sister had been alright. She didnât seem to cry or make as much noise Jamie did; Jamie was always crying. At least thatâs what it seemed like to his big brother. Yasha watched as his mother picked Jamie up from the crib, the baby still crying even while their mom held him.
âHow do you know he needs fed? Itâs just crying,â it wasnât meant to be rude; it was just the curiousity of the seven year old at work. How did their mom know what the crying meant? âAnd how can I help?â Itâs not like he could get him a juice box and making the crying stop.
"I'm in love with you." (Zarya for Yasha)
âYou...youâre what?â
