“Sounds like an adventure, I can see the appeal,” he admitted. Isaac could travel anywhere he wanted, stop whenever he felt like it, choose what to do with each day as it came. Sam wasn’t sure he’d know what to do with that kind of freedom. For a vacation, sure, but it was so different from how he’d always lived his life. Maybe that was just a natural difference in species, though. It had to seem normal to the merm, while his stationary life with his coven must seem odd.
“They’ll make you into a walking talking glow stick, yeah,” he teased, though Isaac’s comparison to an angler fish was definitely better. “It’s true, everyone underestimates what I can do with it,” he said, knowing Isaac was teasing. “My plants can do more than just make your house look nice.”
He saw Isaac perk up when Sam mentioned music, glad to see he was also interested in it. “I play piano, and bass guitar. I sing a little bit, but I’m not that great at it.” He shrugged; Sam ended up singing more often than he would have thought, for someone who didn’t like his own singing voice. Sam nodded, it made sense that Isaac couldn’t carry instruments around with him on his travels. “So your hobby is being curious,” he teased, but it was cute. “Yoga? I go running every day, though lately the gym is more my speed since it’s so cold out. I hate running in the cold.” Sam didn’t like the cold as a rule, and going outside in it that early in the morning just to run seemed like torture to him.
Sam’s smile grew a little when Isaac explained the small kitchen, and how he wouldn’t mind being stuck with Sam there. “I think we’ll survive, somehow,” he teased back, his thumb swiping a little against the back of Isaac’s hand.
“Oh no, if you work for me it will be nothing but crazy magical experiments. You want to expand your horizons, right?” He gave him an innocent smile, as if he hadn’t been telling him about various trouble he’d gotten into. “You don’t think you can handle the plant game?” he joked. “Maybe I’ll just let you handle the water plants.”
Sam chuckled, shaking his head. “I’m the life of the party, is that so hard to believe?” He found that he didn’t have a lot of time to drink his coffee, there was too much talking and laughing going on between them for him to even notice it was starting to get cold. “You live here as long as I have, you learn to liven things up. There’s only so much to do in a town this big.” Being a supernatural town, Soapberry wasn’t exactly a boring place to live. But like any kid growing up in a relatively small town, Sam had gotten bored with it early. It was different as an adult, sure, but most of the time it felt like the same old, same old to him. Talking to Isaac, who had seen so many other places, was like a breath of fresh air.
Sam waved away Isaac’s concern for Iann. “He was fine, didn’t get impaled or anything.” He finally took another longer sip of his coffee, letting the subject drop before he went on some rant about how it was Iann’s own dumb fault in the first place. “So how’s your house and office coming along? You get everything all set up?”
“Oh no, not me. You can turn into a glow stick all you like. I’m doing just fine as a fine matte finish.” Isaac insisted with a light chuckle. He’d never really gotten close to many witches, pissed one off enough to feel their wrath once, but that was enough to know that they could do anything they pleased at any given time. He wasn’t about to judge every witch off of that one though. “What’s your favorite plant and what does it do?” He asked, genuinely curious about what was behind that lovely looking flower shop.
“Well Id love to see you preform sometime. That sounds amazing, and I’m sure you’re not that bad of a singer. Maybe sometime you can show me. What kind of songs do you play?” There was certainly a wide variety of genres that there could be, but as long as he wasn’t screaming into a mic he didn’t see himself hating the idea of seeing him preform. “That’s a good way to put it. I hope you don’t mind me stealing that. I’ll give you credit of course. Running sounds like it could be much better, but you would have to pay me to run on these streets.” He laughed in agreement. “I can imagine. Though the view can’t be great from a treadmill.” He was thankful that he could go swimming instead of running. Any chance to use his tail instead of his legs he would take. “My place isn’t that big, but there’s just enough room to put down a matt if I move my table. I can’t wait until it’s warmer out and I can do it on the beach.”
Isaac grinned, adjusting his hand so their fingers intertwined with each other slowly. “I think I’ll be the note taker. You need someone to record them and blow powder on your face, right? Like the control.” He said with a wave of his semi-free hand, pulling it away from the small cup to wag his finger at Sam. “I don’t know, the plant game sounds pretty intimidating if you ask me. I think I might be able to handle the water plants, let me take care of my home turf.” He nodded.
“Good at parties and the life of the party can be very different things, Floros. I don’t think I have to explain the difference there.” He let off with a telling smirk. Of course he was joking. He didn’t think that Sam could really be that bad at parties, though it was questionable depending on really how many people he accidentally set on fire. “So we’ve got to make our own fun here? That seems doable. Especially with a hand from you, of course. That trouble we talked about.”
“I think it’s going pretty well. I didn’t really have a lot to begin with so things just sort of fell into place. Got to move a good amount of my books to the office so I’ve got a bit more room in my house, but now the house looks a bit barren now. I think I’m going to have to give in and start buying things to decorate or something. I don’t even spend that much time in there aside form at night, but it’s still home for now. I think it’ll fall into place over time.” He looked down at his cup, nearly pouting from being able to see the bottom of it.
