“Well America’s Next top model has it quite right, most of the time.” Olivia shrugged “Yeah. Other than the long hours, it wasn’t that bad.”
“No kidding?” He asked with a touch of amusement. “Are models that dramatic, too? Or is some of that played up for the cameras. -- But at least the shoot is done now.”

“I would.” Liz admitted with a smile. “It would be nice to have real dinner date.” They might have seen each other over a year, yet they have never been in an official date before. It was strange, then again everything about their relationship/friendship was strange, so Liz didn’t dwell on that. “Yeah, same! I was so sure I was going to become a murderer.” She deadpanned, trying to hold her laughter. “Not gonna lie, I would have if you had pissed me off.”
Isaac shrugged, a hint of a smile curling at his lips. “Well, we can go out,” he said. “Name the date and the time and I’ll figure out the place.” He knew Liz’s intense schedule well enough to at least know not to surprise her with plans to go out and he also trusted himself more to pick a restaurant that would maybe toe the line of Liz’s comfort zone. Isaac laughed freely, shaking his head at her admission. “There’s still plenty of time for that. Maybe I’ll piss you off at dinner.”

“No, not stage fright per se. She just didn’t know that she was good, or maybe she did know that she was good and that was the problem. Her family was big on science and math and they thought the arts was a waste of time. I think she stayed away from it for so long cause she was afraid she’d fall in love with acting and singing, which is exactly what happened. Her parents gave her hell for a long time.” Hannah tilted her head to the side, scanning her memory for an answer to his question. “I don’t know that I ever really talk people down completely. I do make honest observations sometimes. Like there was a girl in one of my english classes who was dead set on penning the next Harry Potter. She wanted to be famous, she wanted a career being an author, but she didn’t actually like to write. I pointed out that there were other sides of the literary coin and maybe she’d do better as an agent or in publishing. I think she actually ended up changing her major to nursing.”
“Is that what she still does now?” Isaac asked, curious. He wasn’t too familiar with the concept of discouraging parents, considering that his own had allowed him to do just about anything he wanted -- with the exception of making himself look like a fool. “Did she fall in love with performing? Because if she’s as good as you say she is, it certainly sounds like the right path for her.” He nodded at the example she gave, cracking a slight smile. “Well, that’s a pretty soft way to let someone down. I guess it goes with that whole Oreo method of giving a critique. One compliment, the negative, and another compliment -- it probably helped that you didn’t just flat out tell her she couldn’t do it, but instead offer alternatives.”

“How do you know? You have never asked.” She pouted, sighing. If he wanted to take her out, Liz probably wouldn’t say no – not anymore at least. She had to admit, some days she tended to get paranoid and overthink. Maybe he didn’t want to be seen with her, maybe he was scared of bumping into other women he’d been seeing. “That’s not the same thing. Although I have to admit, I still can’t believe you invited me out to Italy and we actually stayed together without killing each other.” Sure there have been few times Liz came closer, but overall the vacation went pretty well. “It was fun.”
“Would you want to go out?” He asked in return, eyebrows starting to lift. When they’d been in Italy together, they’d gone out quite a lot to shop, sightsee, and indulge in nice dinners, but following the traditions of a tourist was a lot different than just going out in New York. Isaac chuckled, nodding along with Liz’s words. “Yeah, I was pretty sure I wasn’t going to make it on the flight back,” he said, starting to tease. “You would’ve killed me and hid my body in the countryside before going home.”

Layla’s practically salivated at the idea of a suite, shopping spree and a bed of cash to rest her newly celebrity stylist-ified head but reality hit, and here she was. Just making the drinks. The flirting a bonus for when she was shucked right back to routine. Crinkling her nose before she stole the empty glass, “And you’re way cuter than Richard Gere ever was, even before the silver fox thing happened…so one more before I make my last call or—close out? Compare the prices?”
“Thank you,” he answered with a soft chuckle, letting his now empty glass slide back across the bar to the other. “I’ll have to add that one to my résumé -- cuter than Richard Gere.” At the mention of last call, Isaac glanced down the length of the bar to where the two old biddies were still drinking and fawning over the lackluster bartender. It certainly would be a feat to kick them out. “Can I ask that you make me your favorite cocktail?” He asked, eyebrows raised when he blinked back to the blonde. “And then I’ll clear my tab and... I should probably introduce myself. I’m Isaac.”

“You have really different definition of fun.” Not that she minded, it was entertaining. Her brows knit together in confusion, she was about to call him out but then Isaac elaborated further and his words made sense. “I was gonna ask since when have you liked staying in but you explained.” She chuckled, shrugging her shoulders. “I never do. I mean if you didn’t like staying in once in a while, you know, we wouldn’t get to see each other.” Shrugging again, Liz pursed her lips. “You never take me out.”
“I think that you mean I have a fun definition of fun.” He really would never understand what satisfaction Liz got from studying law or staying in her apartment every weekend, but that was just another place where they differed. -- Had he really never tried to take Liz out? Isaac’s eyebrows furrowed as he thought, but it seemed like she was right. The times they’d wound up out together, it’d mostly been by chance, finding each other at parties or bars. Other than that, Isaac usually showed up unannounced at her apartment or pestered Liz into coming to his place. “Well, you never want to go out,” he answered finally, shrugging. “But I did invite you out to Italy.”

“Some people grow their talents best in private,” Hannah mused, face still bearing the residue grin that had spread as she’d applauded the talent on stage. “I had a friend in high school, sang like an angel. I had no clue until she talked into trying out for the musical and landed herself the lead role in Annie.” She waved off of his gratitude with a good natured chuckle. “It was my pleasure. Supporting other people in their passions is kinda my talent. Definitely a hobby at the very least.”
“Really?” He asked in return, eyebrows starting to raise. “I wouldn’t think that’d work well. I mean, did she have stage fright or anything like that?” But Isaac knew from firsthand experience that not everyone wavered in front of a crowd. His smile tugged wider, letting out an amused laugh while listening to the other. “I’ve never heard of being a supportive friend counting as a hobby, but if it works for you, then it works. -- You haven’t had to talk anyone down, have you? I wouldn’t want to be the one to explain to a friend that they’ve always been offkey.”

“Don’t know about all but I’m always in for a nice Scottish, hardly piss.” He added, there was a love for the particulars, Bud and never quite doing the trick. “Or send you over for the dirty work.” Alluding to the man’s self appointed way with chatting. “So what’s it take to be decent with talking people up? Getting the information you don’t necessarily need? Genuine interest or are you just bored most of the time?”
“Mostly bored,” he answered with a rolling shrug. “Bored and talkative, at least. I’ve found that if you just ramble on long enough and string together a few coherent sentences, you’ll manage to strike on something that someone finds interesting. And it doesn’t help to follow all those active listening tricks, y’know?” Isaac started to nod by way of example. “Eye contact, nod a lot, throw in a ‘is that so?’ here and there.”

“Yeah I do but they’re all the way in Bronx.” He replied with a long sigh. Wishing his sister lived closer. But no she loved the Bronx too much to ever move out. “Getting into my apartment isn’t the issue. I’m fucked because I won’t be able to open the shop tomorrow.”
“The shop?” He echoed, still feeling as if being able to get into your apartment would’ve been the bigger issue. “Do you own a store or something? Or are you just the guy in charge of opening? Because that might suck a little more, yeah.”

She mirrored his smile, still blushing. God, he really needed to stop smiling like that. “Is that why you annoy me all the time?” Liz couldn’t help but roll her eyes at him as he mimicked her, she chuckled playfully. “It actually makes a lot of sense.” She said with a nod, thinking about what to reveal him next. Normally she would change the topic but she really wanted to know what he was going to say. “I like how you like going out and having fun yet you don’t judge me when I don’t want to do those things.” She said, giving him a soft smile. “And you are always down for anything, which is nice. Most people roll their eyes whenever I want to stay in and watch a movie but you don’t.”
“I annoy you because it’s fun,” he told her honestly. “Regardless of whether or not you wind up rolling your eyes at me.” But it definitely was a perk when she did -- and way better than the times he accidentally pushed his teasing too far and she’d storm out of the room instead. Isaac tilted his head, surprised when Liz decided to continue with another thing she liked about him. He listened intently, though, smile never slipping. “Well, sure. Staying in can be nice --” which sounded like a genuine lie coming from him until he continued, “but staying in with company is even better. And you have good taste in movies. Plus you never mind when I just want to watch Seinfeld, either.”

“It didn’t really.. I just wanted to cuddle up with the puppy and sleep.” Olivia shrugged “I mean, it was well paid… but they were shooting me with another girl, then they wanted to shoot us seperately. And of corse the makeup needed to some touch up. Someone who says that a model doesn’t have a 9 to 5 job and don’t do extra hours they’re dillusional.”
“I always thought people said modelling jobs were the opposite of that and actually more demanding.” His eyebrows furrowed for a moment, trying to remember if he was right or not. Isaac wound up giving into a shrug. “Or maybe I’ve always just assumed that because of America’s Next Top Model.” He chuckled before continuing, “But I believe you. Was it at least just one tough day and now it’s behind you?”

Taking a harsh breath to release as if reminded of his surroundings, Levin pointed to the list, selecting the champagne version of an Indecent Proposal, per advice. Glancing at the beer selection, nope. No Fat Bastard there. “Can get a Lagunita’s anywhere…. You’re on the know how’s and whatnot’s around these parts aren’t you? Damn it I struck gold and walked straight to Madame X in the flesh. You got the power to get me off that daily notification’s list too?”
“To be fair, all beer kind of just tastes like piss, right?” He clicked his tongue and shrugged, feeling like it was no huge loss. As the other ordered, he glanced back towards him with a growing grin, a chuckle quick to follow. “Yeah, I wish. I don’t think I’ve ever had that kind of pull anywhere. I’m just decent at talking people up,” Isaac explained. “You might need to get in good with the bouncers for that kind of info.”

“Just one thing each.” She agreed with a nod, chuckling lightly. “You don’t. At least not to me.” Not that she could blame him, because she didn’t say nice things about him either – not to his face at least. After a beat, Liz tapped her finger against her chin and smiled at him before speaking “Your smile.” She finally admitted, her cheeks started to blush. “I really like that about you.” Her gaze shifted to somewhere else from his face, she couldn’t compliment him while making an eye contact. “Now it’s your turn.”
“My smile,” he echoed Liz’s words and just like that, started smiling again. Isaac hummed low as he nodded, trying to decide what random ‘like’ he should give Liz in return. It was weird to actually think about, because for as much as they enjoyed each other’s company (both when they were and weren’t fighting), they never talked about stuff like this -- serious things. “I like it when you roll your eyes at me. You always kind of smile and you go like this --” Isaac’s crossed his arms over his chest, mimicking how he saw Liz with a more dramatic eye roll.

“You don’t need an ego boost – your ego is already huge.” She smirked, shrugging her shoulders. “I don’t need you to admit I am smarter than you because we both know I am,” Liz paused for a moment, pursing her lips together while she was thinking. “I will tell you something else but I have a condition, you are going to tell me what you like about me too. Deal?” Liz scoffed at his assessment, shaking her head in disagreement. “I’d rather die than give you compliments every time I see you. Even if I felt like it, I wouldn’t do it. Why would I anyway? You never praise me.”
His eyebrows raised, waiting to hear what kind of stipulations Liz would be putting him through, but her request wasn’t all that bad. “Just one thing each?” He asked, turning more towards her. Isaac held out his hand, as if waiting for a handshake to seal the deal. Before getting that far, though, he was already dropping his hand and shaking his head at her next words. “What? I totally say nice things about you.” And if he could’ve thought of a single example, this would’ve been when he said it.

“I just did a 12 hour photoshoot… including the makeup prep and all that.. All I want is to plop down, face first, on my bed. ” Olivia sighed “It was fun though. There was a cute puppy and everything.”
“Twelve hours?” Isaac repeated with a clear tone of surprise. He started to shake his head, the bridge of his nose wrinkling. “I don’t think any amount of caffeine could prepare me for that long of a work day. And puppies definitely wouldn’t make up for it, either.”

“I think that depends on the person and the kind of workout,” Mason commented, shrugging. “I mean, if it’s just cardio, sure. But if you’re doing cardio and weights and all that shit – that stuff I just can’t do before work. Not to mention the fact that I just wanna lay down afterwards, even more so the older I get. I just need to rest when I’m done here, man.”
He smiled, already starting to shake his head as he listened to the other. Isaac gestured around them, still attempting to slowly roll his shoulders and relax the aching stiffness there. “I don’t think I could even manage one of these classes before work.” Well, if he worked, anyway. Currently his daily routine started with him rolling out of bed somewhere around noon. “It makes more sense to go on a morning run or something and hit the gym when your day’s all done.”

“Fitting is right.” he said, glancing around the room again before turning back to lift the menu, squinting to see what it was they were selling. “Wonder if there’s a Fat Bastard in the fold or is that too Dive-y…”
“Considering that the couches are all velvet around here, that might be a little on the dive side.” Squinting through the red-toned light of the underground club, Isaac leaned towards the other while pointing out -- “There’s beer on tap, too, but the names aren’t quite as creative.”
