“Of course. I completely agree.” Emily nodded “My parents actually wanted me to be a doctor like them. I went in a whole other direction.”

“Of course. I completely agree.” Emily nodded “My parents actually wanted me to be a doctor like them. I went in a whole other direction.”
Em raised an eyebrow “I can see you’re in need of a change too. Have you been here long?”
“Oh, we have the same thought process.” Emily nodded “I’m a lawyer. I’m still working for my firm back in Philly, I go back there only when my presence is needed. I think they’re just waiting for the moment I get this need for chang out of my system and get back to them.”
“Well, let’s hope so.” Em shrugged “So... you’ve never left?”
“Ma, come on –don’t start with this shit again..” he sighed, exasperated, as he spoke with his mother on the phone. Whenever it wasn’t one thing with her, it was another. She was a rollercoaster –an endless one at that. The man had to reminded himself to be supportive and not lose his cool. She needed support right now. “I know, I know. But staying there is what’s best for you right now. I promise Ima visit yo —– Yo watch out.” Jeremiah called out to the person who wasn’t paying attention as they went to cross the street, only steps away from him. The car was coming fast. They must’ve not heard him. The phone slipped out of his hand, hitting the cold hard ground as pulled them back before a tragedy happened.
Emily moved away, but a new case had just been assigned to her, so her mind was buzzing with all the information as she schemed through the documents on her ipad. She probably shouldn’t be walking while doing it, but her mind was too long gone and focused on the subject. At least it was until she was called back to earth by a sudden pull. She was about to lash out on the responsible one, but Em soon realised that the man had saved her ass from the car that sped past them. “Thanks.” she muttered breathlessly “You’ve just saved me.” she muttered.
“You don’t consider it important or big?” Emily raised an eyebrow, not intending come off rude. “In my way of seeing it... I help a lot of people.”
Emily corrected herself as the other spoke “Like this?” she asked sitting up really straight. She could already feel the difference in her core “Well I think it’s doing something different.” she mumbled “Thanks, you saved my back... Literally.”
“It doesn’t really have a name it’s just a vegetable casserole, but I call it my “Number 1 crowd-pleaser”. It had peppers, lentils, courgette, tomatos... ” Emily shrugged “I’m glad you like it though.”
“Well, surely some crazy amish people that my mother loathes.” Emily rolled her eyes. “Philly. Are you from here?”
"I’m a lawyer.” she laughed softly “I have work here. I actually still work for my firm in Philly, but they let me operate around here and, when I’m needed, they call me to go there.” she explained in a rambly way “That’s nice of you, but you don’t have to. I’m actually enjoying the change of ambiance. But I’ll make sure to give you a call once I’m done with all the peace and quite.”
“I’m from Philly. What is it that you do?”
Emily raised an eyebrow. Using her parents’ connections was something that she always refused in life. How could she be proud of her own success if her parents were the ones responsible for it? Even so she put on a smile for the girl “Well, I hope Vegas treats you well.”
“Oh- no it’s fine. I’m a lawyer.” Emily waved a dismissive hand “In my mother’s logic, a small town doesn’t have big cases or someting like that. But I’m actually still working for my firm. I go back to Philly every now and then, when I’m needed, and they let me work from a distance.” she nodded “ So... I guess everything’s the same”
“Those kids were making fun of you. They’re jerks.” she pointed and glared at them. Seeing someone so tired from working or studying hit too close to home “ Big test or project coming up?” Emily asked “You know, I used to chew on a coffee bean instead of drinking the coffee. I still do sometimes when I have a big case.”
Emily found herself smiling “Well, believe it or not, you’re the first person to tell me I haven’t made a mistake. Have you been here long?”
“Well.. if I miss it, I’ll go back.” Emily shrugged, knowing too well that if someone would leave everything behing for a second time just because, it would be her. “But, you know... I had to see what I’ve been missing out on.”
“Philly.” Emily simply answered. “It’s not.. And my career is just fine... for now.”
