The deep rumbling of the volcano echoed through the cavern, setting a heavy, pulsing bassline for the boys' wild celebration. Safe inside their hidden sanctuary, Luca and Alberto had transformed the volcanic heat into the ultimate stage, dressed in elaborate, hand-woven grass skirts and vibrant feathered headdresses that caught the orange glow of the lava below.
"Alberto, look! The echoes make it sound like a whole village!" Luca shouted over the roar of the magma, his eyes wide with excitement. He gripped a carved wooden staff, shaking it to the rhythm of his own heartbeat.
"Then let's give them a real show, fratello!" Alberto grinned, his face painted with bold, earthy stripes. He raised a smooth gourd maraca high in the air, shaking it violently while his other hand delivered a sharp, echoing slap to the head of a tribal drum.
Chit-chit-clack! Bam! Bam!
Alberto threw his head back, letting out a wild, soaring shout that bounced off the ancient petroglyphs carved into the stone walls. Luca joined in, stamping his bare feet onto the rock pedestal, his voice rising in an energetic, rhythmic chant. They didn't know real tribal words, so they made up their own, infusing the beat with a fast-paced, melodic Italian hum.
"Andiamo, andiamo, voliamo via!" Luca chanted, swaying side to side as his feathers brushed the humid air.
"Ehi-oh! Ehi-oh!" Alberto boomed in response, his rhythm locking perfectly with the bubbling, hissing sounds of the lava.
They spun and jumped, completely lost in the music, the heat, and the pure joy of being alive, free, and loud in their own secret world.
