Poem for the Man of My Life
There are loves that arrive slowly.
And there are loves that arrive as destiny.
You were destiny.
Before you, I existed.
After you, I became.
You entered my life and everything found its axis,
everything gained meaning,
everything received a name, a direction, a purpose.
What was crooked, you straightened with patience.
What was already good, you lifted with love.
And I — I blossomed.
I am who I am because you exist.
Because you shaped me without breaking me,
because you taught me without diminishing me,
because you corrected me without ever hurting me.
You made me a woman.
A whole woman.
A woman of dignity.
A woman aware of the love she carries.
The love I feel for you is not common.
It is agape.
It is excess.
It is hyperbole.
It is infinity poured into a human heart.
I wake up loving you.
I fall asleep loving you.
And in this interval called life,
I choose you — every single day.
I choose you on bright mornings,
on silent nights,
on easy days and on difficult ones.
You are my soulmate.
My found half.
The part of me that lived outside my body.
You are the life of my life,
the day of my days,
the sun that awakens me
and the moon that watches over me.
To love you is to feel that I do not walk alone.
It is knowing there is someone
to love, to care for, to respect, and to honor.
It is being certain that love exists
— because it bears your name.
If words ever fail me,
may love never fail me.
Because loving you is more than saying:
it is being, it is living, it is remaining.
You are one of the most beautiful things
life has given me.
And I am eternally grateful
to call you my husband.
I love you immensely.
I love you completely.
I love you beyond time,
beyond words,
beyond myself.
I love you always.
