Some fun facts gleaned from these early prototype character profiles by Hirano, from a 1997 issue of Young King OURS:

Integra’s supposed Indian heritage is not merely a write-in by Studio Gonzo, as her character description here mentions her skin tone as being “that of an Indian”

The way her full title is spelled (Integral Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing) suggests that “Integra” is more of a nickname

In addition to Hellsing Director, her other titles include “magician, religious scholar, and vampire hunter, dubbed by some as the reincarnation of Mrs. Blavatsky”

Alucard’s name, thought to be inspired by the Castlevania franchise, actually originates from a choose-your-own-adventure novel by Irish author J. H. Brennan (the same fake name Alucard uses at Rio).

Alucard’s shades may be inspired by the titular characters of the manga Eat-Man and the film Léon.

Because he can transform into fog, bats, insects, etc., Alucard’s height and weight are listed as “0 kg ~ around 100 kg (220lb)” and “198cm (6′6′’) ~ 1cm” (lol)

Classic A/I fuckery for your bookmark list.  I was rather endeared by the characterization here, particularly Integra seeing through Alucard’s white lies at the beginning and their little moment during the Round Table meeting; there was a real sense of past camaraderie that I’m here for nearly as much as the shenanigans afterwards. 

Favorite line/paragraph:

As many would guess, Alucard was not the most sensible or rational creature. And he certainly did not do things by halves. Not to mention the fact that it was Integra Hellsing, the master he had loved ever since he sampled her blood. So as soon as the idea entered his head—the idea of Integra as not only a consenting, sexual being but a consenting, sexual being who was lusting after him—he lost his head a little.

Hot Take: People view Alucard as an invincible badass, when really he’s traumatized and clearly suicidal.

While a lot of the visuals are over the top and he seems to revel in extreme violence, his arc is obviously about him finding his humanity, coming to terms with all the awful things he’s done, and moving on with his life.
