Lavender Brown left the Great Battle of Hogwarts with broken bones, and a nasty scar down her left eye which left her permanently blind— werewolf scratches don’t mend as easily as one would hope. Before long, the girl who had once looked to the stars for solace and comfort became the girl who shied away from the night sky (but always knew when the full moon was coming). Her parents, respectable Muggles, didn’t know what to do with their daughter and her new problem, and so they bought her a flat in London and made sure she was comfortable, but never understood their Witch daughter and her new problem. She disappeared into the Wizard underground often, not resurfacing or being heard of for days, surrounded by those like her— marred by the war that had taken place in their youth (had they even had a youth) and unable to figure out how to piece themselves back together. One month she refused her potion, ran deep into the forest, and woke up the next morning with rabbit skins all around her. Suddenly she was thirteen again, and she cradled the soft skins in her hand and sobbed (though her crying never did sound the same after the attack) until the sun was setting once again. The next day she marched straight into Lee Jordan’s radio station and demanded a job, first just reading the news and making up Horoscopes, but then championing Werewolf rights and better treatment for all Magical creatures, until one day she looked around and realised her life was full again, that the world was getting better, and that the girl who had looked up at the stars had become the woman who swallowed the moon every month. Surrounded by survivors, she faced each day with more courage until she finally remembered who she’d been (and who she was meant to become). She had been a lion girl, but now she was a wolf, and wolves always traveled in packs, she’d just had to find hers.
Luna Lovegood ran from the war and her friends after the dust had settled. She grabbed a notebook and a typewriter and a quill and traveled all over the world, looking for proof that humanity existed, that kindness would prevail and that she could be whole again. She met kind girls in hostels and got tattoos and dyed her hair every colour in the rainbow, and imagined her mother laughing with glee at the way it would fall across her shoulders and turn her into anything other than a Witch who’d been marked by the war. She loved the Muggle world and reveled in her strangeness to them, wearing her wand behind her ear and sometimes waking up in the middle of the night screaming strange names. “Voldemort,” her roommates would whisper to her in the darkness, “what does that mean?” She bathed in waterfalls and camped under the stars and held tiny dragons on her fingertips, all the while running, running, running. The day that she wandered into a café and began to write down the first of what would become a series in The Quibbler (after she returned home), a boy sat across from her, and reached over, and plucked her wand from behind her ear, and then quietly flicked it at her coffee mug and watched with laughing eyes as tiny little petals began to bloom out of it. One night he reached over and told her she was too beautiful to be sad, she laughed and replied “I am not sad, I am just still alive, and I cannot believe it.” And the days she did, were the days she moved into her flat, and slid a ring onto his finger, and re-opened her father’s old printing press for the first edition of the new Quibbler, and looked around at all of the others who were still alive, and laughed because that’s what her mother and father would have wanted.
when Andromeda left Hogwarts, she stopped once at her parents’ house to grab a rucksack full of ratty muggle clothing, her wand, and her family ring, and then set off to follow one of her favourite muggle bands as they toured around England. her parents were furious, but as long as she promised she’d be back and fall in line eventually, they held their silence.
andromeda (‘call me andy, please, i hate that name’) slept on the floors of bus stations and rooms of friends that she encountered along the way. she marveled at the alcohol muggles drank and things they smoked and indulged in it all until she could forget that she had a duty to kill waiting for her when (if) she made her way home. she made sure to ingratiate herself with all the muggles she could find, and most of them (the boys especially, were happy to let her into their beds) were happy to bring along the funny dark-haired girl who could do magic tricks and had a tattoo on her forearm (that they swore moved in the some lights).
when a boy was looking through her bag for a cigarette and pulled out her wand instead she tensed, but he burst into raucous laughter and pulled his own out, and then came over and kissed her eyelids and whispered 'I knew we were both extraordinary’ and laid her down until she felt that it didn’t matter that there were muggles or wizards or that she was one or the other, and that it didn’t matter when she found out he was someone her family had sworn to hate.
when her parents found out (through darling baby narcissa, who had grown out of her awe and instead let her worship of her older sister burn at the altar of her pure-blooded family) they advised her to return home immediately or face the consequences. she rolled the letter up and smoked it with her friends, laughing along with them at how 'old fashioned’ it was of her parents to write to her on parchment ('they’re losing it in their old age, honestly).
ted traced the outline of the tattoo on her arm and whispered that she ought to go home, she shouldn’t lose her family over him, that he didn’t want to be her rebellion. it was only when he found her trying to curse the wretched snake off that he let himself believe that maybe she wouldn’t leave when things got dangerous.
she sent her parents a letter right after she was married, and she put her family ring in the envelope, but the owl returned within hours carrying one full of ashes.
I want to thank all the gif-makers of tumblr for allowing me to experience all of the best, funniest, hottest, most poignant, most romantic, most intensely heart-tugging moments of shows that I will absolutely never watch.
I'm going to bed before either of you come up with another clever idea to get us killed - or worse, expelled.

“The scar had not pained Harry for nineteen years. All was well.”
Dementors are among the foulest creatures that walk this earth. They infest the darkest, filthiest places, they glory in decay and despair, they drain peace, hope, and happiness out of the air around them.
