Ronnie walks upstairs to his room. His parents are arguing again; well, more his dad yelling at his mom and his mom taking it. He pushes the door closed with a bit too much force. He flops down on his bed and tries to drown out the sound of screaming by thinking. Of what exactly? Anything. How can he help his mom? Why does she put up with this? Why is his dad such a twat? In the midst of thinking, his eyes land on his electric guitar he got a while ago. Whatâs better to drown out the argument than music? He sits up and grabs it, plugging in his earbuds to the amp and strumming a chord.
'Perfect,' he thinks as he plays more and hums.
Downstairs the yelling gets worse but now Ronnie can only faintly make it out.
âYouâre useless around here!â his dad shouts.
âDonât do this while Ronnie is around, please!â his mom begs.
His dad stays quiet, just staring at her angrily, almost sizing her up before he slaps her across the face, leaving a mark.
He then storms off to his room and slams the door.
When Ronnie hears the fight start to calm down, he sets down his guitar and decides to take a break to check on his mom.
He walks down the steps carefully. âMom?â
"Hey, kiddo⌠donât worry about me; I'm fine.â She looks up at him at the top of the stairs.
âWhy are you covering your face? Did he hurt you?â he asks hesitantly.
"Nono, donât worry, Ron," she lies while walking into the bathroom to cover it up with makeup in order for him not to worry.
âWhat is wrong with him? He wonât do that again, I know he won't..." she mutters to herself.
Ronnie walks into their living room and sees all the family photographs from back before his dad started drinking. When they were happy.
âMom?â Ronnie calls out loud enough for her to hear.
âYeah, kiddo?â she replies.
âWhy do you stay with him?â He asks rhetorically, "Really, you donât deserve this; leave the twatâ"
âLanguage, Ronnie, and donât call your father that.â
"Sorry... but I mean, come on! He yells at you constantly and obviously hits you. Please, Mom.â Ronnie pleads.
âHeâs just got a lot going on right now heâll go back to normal eventually,â she assures.
Ronnie looks more concerned for her âNo, he wonât, heâs been like this for months!â
The conversation stops suddenly when his dad comes back inside after having a beer (or two).
Ronnie just watches him silently as he walks up to his mom.
He tries to kiss her to make up for it but she steps back.
âHave you been drinking?â she accuses, âI thought you said you quit!â
âIt was just one beer, you cunt!â he shouts back.
âLetâs do this outside.â she vaguely gestures to Ronnie implying she doesnât want him to see.
âFine,â he says gruffly.
They both walk outside onto the front porch and Ronnie goes up to his room to give them some privacy. Ronnie picks up his guitar from earlier and starts playing. Itâs like his own little world to escape from all the yelling and fighting. He starts humming softly and mumbling broken lyrics.
ââŚheed my lecture..-â he mumbles quietly as he continues playing, ââŚdo you feel like mmmm-mmâŚâ
Suddenly thereâs the sound of faint yelling and quickly after a door slams shut downstairs.
âRonnie! pack your things, we're going to your grandmas!â Ronnieâs mom calls out.
Ronnie jumps up off his bed and goes to his door to look out.
âWhat happened? Did he hurt you?â Ronnie asks.
She doesnât answer but she glances up at him as she passes by his room with a look that confirms his worst fear. He actually hurt her.
He goes back into his room to pack his essential stuff.
When he looks under his bed to grab the duffel bag, he sees the guitar case his dad got him. âRonnie Winterâ is written on the name tag. Ronnieâs dad bought it for him the first time something like this happened. When he tried to buy back Ronnieâs love. It didnât work as well as he hoped, but Ronnie at least tolerated him up until today. Now Ronnie couldnât stand his father. How could he hurt her like that? He quickly shoves some clothes and an iPod with earbuds into his bag. He grabs it, then walks out of his room and goes downstairs into the kitchen where his mom and dad are. His dad is still trying to convince Ronnie and his mom not to leave.
âCmon, babe! It wonât happen again!â heâs slurring his words.
Ronnieâs mom just stays silent as she moves around the house trying to gather things.
âYouâre leaving too, kiddo?â his dad turns to him.
Ronnie stays silent but gives him an annoyed look and adjusts the duffle bag strap on his shoulder.
Ronnie opens his mouth to speak but his mom comes back and puts her hand on his arm as she walks past with her own small bag of things.
âCmon,â she says as she ignores his dads words.
Ronnie quickly follows behind her.
âWeâre going to Grandmas?â Ronnie sets his bag in the back and sits in the passenger seat.
âYeah.. just for now. Iâll talk to someone in the morning about everything,â she gets into the driver's seat and puts the car into gear.
Ronnie stays silent and leans his head on the glass of the window. He watches his house fade away in the distance. His old, ânormalâ life. As much as he is happy for his mother to finally stand up to his deadbeat addict father, he wishes his life would go back to normal and he could just sleep in his own bed. Without any yelling or fear.
âYou okay, Honey?â she glances over at Ronnie before focusing back on the road.
âMhm..â Ronnie answers not convincingly.
His mom doesnât believe that heâs fully alright but doesnât push for the truth.
She continues driving for a while with only the quiet hum of the road to fill the silence.
âLook.. Ron- me and your dad.. I think weâre getting a divorce," she suddenly blurts out.
Ronnie doesnât reply.
After the silence, she steals another quick glance at him, only to see that he fell asleep.
She smiles softly and rubs his shoulder. âGet some sleep, kiddo."
When she pulls up to Ronnieâs grandma's house, she parks the car and tries to wake up Ronnie again.
Ronnie groans.
She sighs and gets out to go to his side of the car.
âYouâre getting too old for this, Ron." She unbuckles his seatbelt. âI wonât be able to carry you forever, y'know."
With a big huff of strength, his mom picks Ronnie up bridal style and carries him up the few steps to the door.
She pushes the door open to be greeted by her mom.
"Shhh... heâs asleep,â she gestures to the very sleepy teen in her arms.
Ronnieâs grandma gives a small smile and quietly closes the door behind them. âJust take him to the guest room; weâll talk after.â
Ronnieâs mom sets him on the bed in the guest room and pulls the blanket up.
âLove you, kid." She brushes some of his long hair out of his face and kisses his forehead before turning out the light and closing the door.
Ronnieâs grandma is sitting on the sofa with a cup of tea.
"So... what happened? What finally made you leave?â She takes a sip of the tea before setting it down.
âWell... we were fighting like normal, but this time Ronnie was around, so I asked to take it outside and... we fought more. It started getting physical, and he pushed me to the ground into the dirt; thatâs when I finally had enough,â she rambles on and on.
âOkay, okay." Ronnieâs grandma opens her arms, not holding the mug, inviting her into a hug.
Ronnieâs mom leans in and hugs her back.
âYouâll be okay; weâll get the papers in the morning. You two can stay here as long as you need.â She rubs her back in a soothing motion.
âThank you, Mom." She gently ends the hug.
âGet some rest; weâll get the papers tomorrow." She offers a small comforting smile and pat on the back.
Ronnieâs mom stands and says, âOkay.â
She goes to the other extra bedroom in the house and lies down on the bed. She stares up at the ceiling for a bit. Her mind is just racing with thoughts. Before she begins to overthink, she decides to just roll over and try to fall asleep.
The next morning Ronnie wakes up a bit late. The alarm clock next to his bed reads 11:00AM. He rubs his eyes and stands up. The whole house is eerily quiet; they both must be out. He walks down to the kitchen. The only sound is his bare feet padding on the hard wood floor.
He spots a pile of papers stapled together on the kitchen counter and walks over. Itâs flipped to a few pages in, and he skims the lines. He doesnât understand any of the words he sees, so he flips back to the first page, and in big text at the top it reads âDIVORCE AGREEMENT." Ronnieâs face pales. He can feel his eyes prickling with tears. Before they come out, though, he can hear rustling and the front door open. His head snaps up at the sound, and he can see his mom and grandma hobble in with a couple more bags of things, presumably from his house. They mustâve gone back for more of their stuff.
Ronnieâs mom spots him at the table with the stack of papers in front of him and the look on his face.
"Oh... Ronnieâ" She quickly sets down the things and walks over to him.
âS-so it's final?â Ronnie speaks quietly, trying to hold back a sob.
"Iâyes, Honey. It should be." She pulls him into a hug.
He doesnât know why heâs crying; he hates that man. He hates that he has his last name. He hates that heâll have to pass it down to his partner and kids some day. Hates what heâs done to his mom and him. Maybe he just misses how it used to be. How he knows everything is going to change and heâll always have to live with a âbrokenâ family. The fact heâll never be back in the house again, in his room.
âWant to go listen to some music? Will that cheer you up?â She pulls back slightly to look at his face.
He sniffles softly and nods, "Y-yeah... it will.â
âOkay, weâll be down here if you need anything." She finally releases him from the hug.
Ronnie gives them a watery smile. âMhm, thanks, Mom.â
âAny time, Kiddo,â she sits down at the dining room island and grabs the packet of divorce papers.
Ronnie quickly runs to his room and grabs the iPod and earbuds out of his bag and puts on some tunes. He flops onto his bed, and his long brown hair flows out behind his head onto his pillow. He sets the small iPod on his chest and closes his eyes. Instead of thinking about all the bad things happening, he decides to daydream about being a rock star on a stage, singing his favorite songs and rocking it out on a guitar. Finally, in what feels like weeks but has only been a couple hours, he breaks out into a genuine smile. Heâs in his happy place.

You and Neil âbroke upâ about a week ago. You really just kind ofâŚdisappeared, but Neil assumed you wanted to end things. He loved you and he took this very hard. He would sob at any given moment and was all around very depressed. Today, he was taking a bath to try to relax himself a bit, and he slipped underneath the water. He didnât know what his goal was; he wasnât suicidal; he liked his life. He had good friends and a business that was surviving, to say the least. He was happy, but as he was sitting there staring at the bathroom ceiling, you showed up. You, oh you, the love of his life. You two had met at his movie store called Gumshoe Video. He almost couldnât believe it.
âI couldnât have drowned that quickly, right?â he thought to himself as he blinked a few times.
You were still there. You were⌠real? You came back? You were in his house? He almost shoots up and shakes water off like a dog.
âEw, gross!â you say, shielding your face from any of the water.
âYouâŚyou came back?â Neil breathes out, trying to catch his breath from holding it for so long.
"You've got to stop falling for these, Neil,â you say with a small smile, trying to make him not pissed at you after you heard what had happened.
âWHAAAAAT?â Neilâs mind finally catches up to how ridiculous this is, and he gets out of the bath still fully naked.
You quickly stand up from where you were sitting on the side of the bathtub and quickly go to his living room.
âWhy would you do this to me, Y/N??â Neil yells.
Heâs not yelling because heâs mad; he still loves you after all and would never want to be a boyfriend like that. He is just confused. You make it to his living room with him still following you, questioning why you did what you did. You lie down on the couch, and he instinctively lies on top of you. Still completely naked in his confused rush of emotions, he forgot to even put on some boxers or a towel. He puts himself comfortably between your legs and just stares back at you for a bit with his sopping wet hair.
"I missed you." Your hand caresses his cheek.
"Where were you? Why'd you leave me?â He questions you.
"I-I just had some family troubles. Iâm sorry. " As you speak, you adjust slightly to try to get more comfortable with the new weight on top of you.
âFuck.. donât do that,â he breathes out.
"Don't do what? Talk to my family?â You furrow your eyebrows.
"No, no, the... the adjusting, the moving around,â he responds.
"Oh, this?â You move more deliberately this time, purposefully rubbing up against him.
"Y/N!" He pauses for a second. âFuck, fuckâno, not now...shitâ" he mutters, closes his eyes, and tries to focus on breathing and making blood go other places.
You feel something start pressing against your thigh.
"Neil? Is that⌠are youâŚ?â you trail off.
"I donât want to be! Butâbut seeing you again⌠lying on you and you moving around really didnât help,â he continues, keeping his eyes closed.
"Uhm⌠I can help, if you want," you hesitantly ask.
"I've... I've never..." He looks embarrassed.
"Wait⌠youâre telling me youâre a virgin? Neil, arenât you like 30?â you question.
âYes! Yes, Iâm a virgin, okay? I know! Now please..." he gulps softly.
"Well then, sit up." You gently push him up to sitting with his legs still on the couch.
Neil instinctively goes to cover himself with his hands.
âNeil, c'mon, what are you doing?â You look down at his hands covering himself.
âItâs embarrassing! Iâve never shown someone before." His cheeks turn red.
"Well, I canât help you if I can't even see it now, can I?â You give him a slight smile.
Neil slowly removes his hands that were covering himself. He reveals his dick; itâs about average size and very hard right now.
âWhoa,â you blurt out.
"Is... is it good?â he stammers.
"Yeah, it is." You look up at him with a soft smile that almost melts him.
"Well, what do you want me to do with it?â You move closer to in between his legs and rest your hands on his thighs.
âJust touch it; it's starting to be painful." He takes deep breaths prepared for the new sensation.
You slowly wrap your hand around the base of his penis and stroke it once to test the waters.
âOh my god,â his head falls back onto the armrest behind him.
âFeels good, huh?â You canât help but give a little smirk at his reaction.
âYes, oh, yes it feels amazing.â He looks back at you and gestures for you to keep going.
You continue to stroke him until pre-cum starts dripping out.
âCan I try something else?â You were already prepared to take him into your mouth.
âPlease,â he almost whimpered.
You quickly take him in your mouth and taste the saltiness of him.
âI canât last much longer,â he warns.
You continue going down on him until you feel him start to tense up and you look up at him through your eyelashes.
âFuckâI'm going toâplease let me." He pleads for you to let him come.
You give a slight nod,, and he finishes in your mouth. You swallow all of it and pull off of him.
âHow was your first experience?â You hold his face and rub your thumb over his still reddened cheek.
âIt was great,â he says, looking into your eyes.
âIâm glad and⌠sorry about disappearing for a week." You give him a small kiss.
âApology accepted,â he smiles.
