Talk to your fridge, oven and washing machine
Sounds cool, isn't it?
Or insane?
If you buy a new LG’s fridge, oven or washing machine you can talk to the devices if you use the Line’s messaging app !
Last year LG spread some incredible news. They said they developed a new service that lets their customers chat with the LG devices by using their smartphone.
And now this is available! Like many cool technologic stuff, you can only buy it in Asia.
It's only available in LG's home market: Korea.
I hear you thinking: "Okay, but what is this exactly?" Well, one cool thing is the fridge with a camera. Remember the feeling when your in the supermarket and you don't know what to buy because you forgot to look in the fridge? LG solved this problem ! The camera sends you photos of the food and drinks in it, so you know what items you need to buy.
Why would you buy a washing machine that can respond your chat messages?
Because you don't have to be at home to put it on. When you come home after a long day at the office, the laundry is done.
But then... a microwave/oven with NFC (Near Field Communication) and WiFi ?
How the hell could that be useful?
I'll tell you: he suggests recipes. He even tells you what ingredients & settings you need for specific dishes.
Ofcourse this is amazing, but a lot of people would say it's unuseful. I'm not sure about that. It's not something you really need. But it's absolutely some cool stuff to own. And very unique.
You can do this all by using chat sessions on Line. Line is a popular messaging app, more than 400 million people registered on it. LG says that HomeChat is like chatting with a close friend. The communication is very familiar indeed.
There's also a 'Quick Button' that pulls up the features you use the most.
An other nice advantage is that you can use the app while you are on the road, or even on vacation.
And Line wouldn't be Line without the famous stickers. HomeChat knows all about it!
Are u disappointed that it's only available in Korea?
Then I'm sure I have some good news for you. LG is planning an introduction of this great app to other countries, also the US. But there's not yet a timeframe for when this will happen.

Wearables for the win!
Things get older. The smartphone and tablet revolution is wearing off. The technology industry tries to figure out what the next hype will be.
And the answer is: wearable devices.
Wearables can be anything. From fitness trackers, smart glasses, smartwatches, clothing with embedded sensors, to tattoos and even ingestible pills. These pills collect data and information while they are making their way through our bodies.
They are not ment to replace smartphones. They just work as satellite devices that collect data or relay notifications.
If these devices have screens, they can be used for some mobile apps.
Big companies and ambitious startups know what they are doing when they are working on their own wearable designs. They are able to do that because the barrier to entry is low because of the cheap sensors & the excited crowdfunding!
But mass adaption would be more realistic if existing mobile operating systems like Android or Apple. It's easier to tweak their existing files than to write new ones.
But wearables are still a big bet, a big risk. It will cause a lot of failures. Gownder (Forrester Research) predicts that 80% to 90% of current wearables will fail.
Do you believe this will actually be reality in a few years?
I thought that when I read about the Google Glass. It started as an unrealistic, futuristic product and is now an overhyped gadget and it's still growing its popularity.
ABI Research says that 90 million wearable devices will ship around the world this year already (2014). Sports, fitness, wellness devices and later healthcare technology are the first successfull stories.
Sport and related wearable devices are a successfull combination because their features and benefits are clear.
For example: The addition of a screen can save the wearer the search for their smartphone.
One day, a wearable device might confirm your unique walk or heartbeat and act as a form of unique identification, similar to a fingerprint sensor. When you walk into a store, it could transmit information about your size and clothing preferences to a beacon, and when you walk out it could charge you automatically. But his can be abused by some marketeers. Anyway, wearables can be the future. For now, the smartwatches are just the first baby steps.

MICROSOFT JOINS THE SMARTWATCH GAME
A challenge for Samsung, Apple and Google. The U.S. Patent Office has released an application from the software maker for a smartwatch design. The application was already filed in 2012, but released the week of the sixth may '14.
The plans are about a wristwatch that can be used as a fitness tracker and also to play music. It's also a phone and messaging device.
Smartwatches are huge today. The startup Pebble says it sold 400 000 smartwatches last year. We don't know if Microsoft will release the device to the public. We hope so!
Anyway, this is not the first time for Microsoft. In 2004 they introduced devices made in partnership with famous watchmakers (for example Fossil, Suunto and Citizen). They raised 'SPOT': a technology platform. Smart Personal Objects Technology.

#weareallmonkeys is publicity stunt
It's an advertising agency (Sao Paulo) that's behind the #weareallmonkeys hype.
During a game in Villareal a banana was thrown in front of Brasilian Barcelona-defender Dani Alves. He ate it. Neymar (teamplayer) posted a picture from him and his son while they were eating a banana, followed by the (later famous) hashtag.
The following days people posted pictures with bananas in large numbers.
However, Neymars dad was approached by an advertising agency to turn it into a stunt. He accepted it. The reason why he did that was because he was already thinking about some funny way to react against the racist reactions his son got (12 april in Granada).
The picture and the hashtag were the idea of the advertising agency. The campaign was ready. They were just waiting for the perfect moment to launch it. Alves created that perfect moment.

Google knows everything ...
Google now remembers where you parked, gains offline cards, indoor maps and even shopping reminders.
Wait, there’s even more! Google Now cards also work offline! Well, that's a revolution, isn't it?
The malls are gaining indoor map directories and you can now get product search reminders. The Google Search App for Android will now help you locate your car in a parking lot or on the street. No more embarrissing mistakes ;)
We don't know in which malls the maps will be available, probable some malls in the US and Japan. But google has also individual store maps, but these will come later. These are for some retailers like Best Buy, Home Depot, Ikea,... The product search reminders will remember your previous searches for online products, and then it will lead you to a store that sells that specific product you looked up on the Internet. At that moment Google will show you a Now card (it's like a notification, a reminder). This is very powerfull.
Your search history becomes a shoppling list, and Google will remind you about what you need.

Sometimes we are looking for things even if we don't know what exactly that is. Pinterest wants to help us with that problem.
Pinterest's solution: 'Guided Search'.
It's a predictive search engine powered by social curation. “Search until now has been based on information retrieval, factual questions, factual answers,” Silbermann said. “At Pinterest we want to take a step back and think what if it was different. Pinterest after all is about discovering things that you didn’t even know are out there. And so we decided let’s build a search engine that’s more about exploration, that’s more aboutdiscovery, that’s more about teaching about your tastes and giving you options to explore than it is about giving you an ordered list.”
It's a mobile only product, because 75% of Pinterest usage is on mobile devices.
Therefor they want to focus on mobile development.
A desktop version will come later.
“We are trying to provide a recommendation on every single object in the world, whether it’s a beautiful photo, whether it’s a workout routine, whether it’s an article, we want to help you find things that are relevant to you.”
How hits turn into dollars
Internet: the place where everybody wants to create something unique, sharable and profitable. You, me, marketeers to the guy sitting next to you on the train. But in fact it isn't that simple to accomplish.
Some people are just haunting fame, others want to get their brand out to the masses. They actually want to turn the hits into dollars.
Kaleb Nation (internet entrepreneur) says the fastest way to earn some money with social media is to stop think about it.
Kaleb Nation, internet entrepreneur and creator of the Million Hits Secret, says businesses, brands and Internet enthusiasts who purposefully try to make a buck by generating "viral content" may not get anywhere. He saysthe secret lies within the intention.
Kaleb Nation found monetary success in the digital world, just like Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook) and Jack Dorsey (and a lot of other young online entrepreneurs). The internet guru had millions of views on YouTube & generated an income thanks to the Internet. And of course major companies (like Taco Bell, Ford and BBC America) noticed this.
Nation says you'll never be an online success if you keep pushing your products to people on every existing social network. It's all about being human. You need to understand what makes people tick. You may not miss the 'social' in social media. You are talking to people, not just a number of followers.
Nation thinks Vine is the next hype (if it isn't already). "Media is constantly being digested in smaller and smaller formats. We hopped from movies to TV, from TV to YouTube, and now from YouTube to Vine".
