how did you get the chinstrap on blackbird's helmet to look so accurate?? its amazing

thank you- the chinstrap is a thick sheet of foam(cut into shape) with a thin sheet of foam wrapped around it, to make it appear smooth.

The chin and visor both attach to the helmet with magnets.

I get this question a lot- I'm honestly not interested in selling my files because I'm unsure of legality and the taxes would be annoying.

I'm not comfortable giving it away currently, in fear others would sell the model as their own. But I might reconsider making it available for free in the far future when demand dies down(?).

It was my first 3D model I made specifically for printing. As a result the quality is incredibly poor, on the interior especially.

Printing:

My cosplay for Rookie is mostly 3D printed using the P1S Bambu Lab printer and regular PLA. The STL files and visor where purchased from Etsy.

I took my measurements and scaled everything in Bambu Studio. For my process there's a lot of trial and error, other Halo cosplayers use Armor Smith for scaling, but I haven't tried it.

Sanding:

For a smooth surface I used Dupli-Color FP101 primer to fill the layer lines on the raw print. I sand the surface back with a detailed sander, and repeat the process until the surface is completely smooth. For a respirator I used the X-plore 3500 Respirator Mask(with Gas/P100 cartridge). Do all spraying and sanding outside and away from others.

(You can't be too aggressive with sanding and linger in one spot for too long, the PLA will begin to melt from the heat caused by friction)

(Off topic, but the playlist on my Linktree is practically the only thing I listen to for sanding and painting to stay awake)

Painting:

I'll use Dupli-Color spray paints and matte topcoat to get the base color. Once everything is dry and odorless, I'll refine details with Tamiya water-based model paints inside with open windows.
