One day a few years ago, I was doing something stupid that I had done hundreds of times before, I used electric to make my heart skip. I'd shocked myself dozens of times that day trying to get a good recording, but I shocked one random time and my heart did not restart like it had every time before.
I didn't have time to do much before I passed out, roughly 10 seconds. Everything went dark quickly. I slipped away, felt a release, and felt a deep comfort. The next thing I heard was my heart pounding loudly in my ears. It turns out the stethoscope was still in place from losing consciousness too quickly, so I could hear it picking up speed before I regained my vision. I was very confused as I woke up on the floor, but once I realized where I was, I knew something had gone wrong.
Truly, I wouldn't know what happened if it weren't for the recording, which I posted here awhile ago. You can hear my heart randomly stop, me panic for a few seconds before passing out, some agonal breathing as my body fought to live, and then my heart start again on its own.
For a long time, I thought a DC shock from a battery would cause asystole, not Vfib. It turns out, research shows that AC and DC shocks both end in VF- outside of a lightning strike. So, somehow I got extremely lucky and experienced a very rare case of VF spontaneous termination.
Health wise, I am tip top. My checkups have come back clean and I stay very active.
If I were to look for a lesson- I lost a partner to cancer after this accident. We talked often about the peace I found when I left and I believe it gave her deep comfort. As lame as it is to say, if it helped her, it was worth it.
For obvious reasons, I will not share how I did things.
