THE SAD, STRANGE LIFE AND DEATH OF DEVONTE HART: THE CRYING BLACK BOY WHO FAMOUSLY HUGGED A COP
After Ferguson, a viral photo turned the tween into a symbol of post-racial America. But his murder — at the hands of his adoptive white mother — shows how much of an illusion that all really was
We don’t yet know if 15-year-old Devonte Hart died when his adoptive white mother, Jen Hart, 38, stomped on the gas pedal and drunkenly, intentionally, drove her 2003 GMC right off the edge of America. We do know the SUV plunged 100 feet down the cliffside and crashed into the Pacific Ocean, killing her, along with Sarah Hart, 38, Devonte’s other adoptive white mother, and four of his siblings:
Markis, 19
Jeremiah, 14
Abigail, 14
Ciera, 12
The apparent murder-suicide remains an open mystery.
At present, Devonte is listed as missing. Local authorities haven’t recovered his body, nor have they located his sister, Hannah Hart, 16.
(Devontes bio mom) Sherry Davis’ children were forcibly removed from her home by Texas authorities due to her struggle with cocaine addiction. Davis, who was complying with her court-ordered drug treatment program, also fought to get her children home. But before she could get them back, they were adopted by a couple in Minnesota: the Harts.
In light of what we now know about his murderous adoptive white mothers — who’d been cited for a pattern of repeated child abuse dating back to 2008 — this powerful image twists into a more potent symbol. A symbol of systemic failure. Far more heartbreaking than anyone imagined at the time.

WHAT THE FUCK
There’s a podcast called “Broken Harts” that goes deep into this case, including interviews with biological relatives of the children, including an aunt who had custody and lost it because she left the kids with their own mother one time because she had to work and had no other child care. The family lost 100% of their rights because of that. The kids were eligible for adoption after that.
The neighbors are also interviewed. Hannah, one of the little girls, jumped out a window at 1 am to ask for help from the couple next door. The wife’s father called the police (the husband didn’t want to get involved). Nothing happened.
Neighbors gave the children food regularly because they weren’t fed. CPS was called numerous times. It wasn’t taken seriously because they didn’t “look” like abusers. Over and over again, their whiteness and “niceness” allowed them to abuse six black children. This was the home the system decided was more fitting than with extended family while the parent got treatment for her Illness.
When CPS finally came to investigate, they killed them.
And that’s not even the whole story.
I remember seeing that photo of Devonte hugging the cop and how it looked to be sending a certain message and everyone said it was staged.
Now when I see it all I see is a boy sincerely begging for help.
“I think Yuna’s refusal to be involved in figure skating (aside from her activities as Olympic commitments) shows a lot about what she really felt about the sport.”
Okay so I rose from the dead to protest this because it's full of shit. 1. She's not involved in the figure skating community? Uh guess you have had this opinion for awhile and won't even bother to try to find info suggesting otherwise or focused on communities YOU pay attention to because Dabin who recently placed 10th at Worlds to get Korean ladies 2 spots for the Olympics has stated after Worlds that Yuna has helped her a lot with how to make more graceful movements and to use speed effectively. Eunsoo has also stated that Yuna has helped her for JGPS. Yelim has also recently signed onto ATS which is Yuna's management company so that's another thing she's doing. She even met up with Misha Ge when he came last month to Korea to help with younger Korean skaters. Not being involved in skating stuff outside of her home country =/= not being in the community at all. 2. Being part of the Olympic committee is probably a lot of work? Especially with the political climate of South Korea lately and the struggles they've been having in getting sponsors, I'm sure it must be super stressful and it's no wonder that she wants to focus her time on that? I also imagine that to most people: helping with home Olympics >> training and performing shows/commenting on competitions. Those things that people consider "being a part of the skating community" are things she can do after when the games are over. 3. All athletes must love LOVE their sport and if they don't they are traitors and don't truly perform or deserve to do well amirite? Like lmao this thing of people thinking Yuna hates figure skating and because of that she's some bad person the sport shouldn't remember fondly of is so old and so irrelevant. Who cares if skaters treat skating as a job? As long as the tech and polish is there what does it matter if behind the scenes they hate it? If the counteragurment for this is that it looks bad on the sport, then I have to say Yuna did so much for the sport already in Korea that she should have reached quota 10 fold for what "giving back to the skating community" even means. She owes no one anything. 4. Skaters spend their entire younger lives training for a grueling and expensive sport while possibly neglecting other skills in life. Yuna has the economic freedom to do and learn whatever she wants. Why are people blasting on her for doing those things for just the past 3 YEARS when she's spent almost her entire life on the rink? TL;DR: she is still involved and even if she hated it who the hell cares? It's not like the magic of her old programs will disappear because of it and means nothing less of the sport.

“California man is demanding police accountability after an officer fatally shot his service dog in the head.
Ian Anderson of San Diego told The Huffington Post he was sleeping in his home when officers pounded on his door at 5 a.m. Sunday over a domestic disturbance call. The 24-year-old man said police had the wrong house.
The knocking woke up Anderson and his 6-year-old pit bull, Burberry, who started barking until Anderson opened the door for the officers.
In a surveillance video obtained by HuffPost, one of the officers can be seen petting the dog. Burberry then runs over to the other officer, who backs away, drawing his weapon. Burberry keeps following the officer, and seconds later — off-screen — the cop fatally shoots Burberry in the head.”
Ian Anderson is asking people to sign a petition to have SDPD officers take a mandatory training course in animal behavior. Spread this!
He is so cute omg
