mickey being forced to make a valentine for a girl in the fourth grade to save face
"Ugh! Glitter and girls. I hate them. Ew. This sucks. Valentines day can just die for all I care..."
I'm imagining him making one for Ian that said "from your secret admirer. I like your hair. So... yeah. Happy V.D. or whatever." (V.D. since he's just not sure how to spell it. Also, he didn'tuse glitter for Ian's because that is just totally gay. But let's be honest so is pink, and so are hearts, and so is the whole idea of the holiday anyway. This just gave him an excuse to see if he could make Ian smile since he knew he would never tell him those things face-to-face, because once again, he's not a girl and that's just gay.)
Then, when everyone went to lunch, he secretly walked by Ian's box and dropped it in. Then later, after he's eaten 3 cupcakes (3 because he's hungry and it's not stealing if you're hungry, bitch!), he quietly watches through his top lashes as Ian opens all his cards (he watched Ian because it hardly took any time for him to read his since he only had 2. One from the teacher, and 1 from Ian because Mickey doesn’t scare him and Ian ignored his threat to everyone that he would "knock their teeth out of their head if they gave him a Valentine!!")
So when Ian gets to his card, a very nervous Mickey is watching very intentionally through his top lashes so no one else can see him watching (even though nobody ever looks at him since he threatens to, "knock their teeth out their head if they look at him!") As Ian carefully takes Mickey's card out of his box he opens his mouth, just slightly, in shock, because it's prettier than all the rest. Instead of cut out hearts and fancy glitter, there is a beautifully drawn picture of himself with extra special care taken to make sure his hair looks exactly as it does in real life. He then smiles so big that he lights up the room and Mickey, despite the fact that he's a hard ass, and despite the fact that he's not a bitch, smiles too. Just long enough for Ian to see as he looks around the room trying to pinpoint the artist responsible for this "prettier than all the rest" V.D. card. Mickey stops smiling and averts his eyes down quickly enough that Ian really didn't suspect him as the admirer and artist.
But Mickey knows. And Mickey, despite all the things that could prevent him from having hope for anything beautiful, still hopes that one day, he'll be able to sign the card "From, your Valentine... Mickey." And even though that might be gay and even though that might make him a bitch, it's worth it all just to see Ian's smile "that lights up the room!"
