also now i'm just going off but one thing i love about the show is that the cracks are already starting to show with the hockey universe. by which i mean that there's already this focus on the fact that the narrative of them is separate from the reality of them and that it puts them in a role that is pretty limiting. and that fame and image-managing is pretty difficult and draining and that shane is frustrated with it. which will build so nicely into having to make the call to break with it and stand up tall with ilya when they're forcibly outed against their will. #mythemes

i think my main thing is that i think show shane is actually quite perceptive of ilya. like this goes back to pretty much that first interview where he helps him and sochi and beyond that. and i think he has to keep that trait in s2. BUT i think he is extremely reliant on asking questions and getting an honest answer to be able to help out. when ilya calls him after his dad's funeral he literally asks him if it's very upsetting. and he keeps doing stuff like that, asking outright, and that's how the s2 conflict can still win! bc how does that tactic work if the answer is a lie?

so interesting to see what they do with s2, bc i think a lot of the conflict in the long game kind of hinges on a shane personality that is not really the same in the show s1. like one of the main issues with them in the long game is that ilya keeps anything vulnerable hidden and deflects so hard about all of it, including how hard it is to constantly lose and how alone he feels and how depressed he is. i can still see show ilya do this. but it only works as a conflict because the long game shane sort of buys the into story and doesn’t infer that ilya actually feels really bad. and i think this makes sense related to book 1 shane who kind of hates the thing with ilya for a long time and truly thinks that they’re just having irresponsible sex. like he has a way more conflicted perspective on who ilya is and sees his true emotional world only sporadically for a while. whereas in the show they’ve moved the emotional intimacy up way earlier by making their first time anal scene like that and by making them have emotional fights and by making shane sort of see through him. like a lot of the plot points are pretty much the same, but while book shane deflects, show shane seems to genuinely be concerned for him and to get that the teasing is teasing way earlier etc. and in tampa he also has to push past ilya’s walls, which involve realising that he is in fact deflecting. and ilya cries, which he doesn't do in the book!!! including in the i love you scene, where he also doesn't cry in the book. so if that dynamic is going to continue onwards in s2, the conflict will have to have to be a little different i think. like the bones will be the same, but i think that show shane has already been let in to ilya enough to be able to naturally grasp more of his perspective. which kind of only makes it more tragic tbh that they drift so far apart from understanding each other. so it could be really interesting but hmm thinking 🤔

the the long game halloween butt plug depression sex scene is gonna be so difficult to get right on screen, but if they do it’s gonna be sooooo emotionally poignant. like these are two people for whom sex has been the thing to connect them for their whole relationship. and now with this sex it’s the first time that they’re just in two completely different emotional worlds. a major chasm is literally happening in this moment!!! for the people who first really saw each other during sex!!! and only ilya really knows the truth about it. if you think about it it’s kind of the first step to the main fight

really i still think about “louis said you called him nicki” like…. it’s the implication for me that lestat has told louis about him, enough for even claudia to know him as lestat’s first love. it’s the honesty of it, the history, lestat allowing louis to know that he has loved someone before and louis being familiar with and repeating the nickname, implicating an acceptance or respect of that love. it’s the privacy too, claudia knowing fragments, like a child catching glimpses of the private emotional life that her parents share. it’s just that i think there’s something so intimate about being able to confess to the significance of people you knew before, and conversely to be trusted with that knowledge and the ability to understand. like marrying a widow and respecting that by going for visits to the grave
