The Israeli Government’s decision to publish construction tenders for the E1 settlement project is unacceptable. The international community has long opposed this settlement expansion, and has voiced their grave concerns privately and publicly. Religious figures in the #WestBank say difficult living conditions are pushing an increasing number of Christian families to leave their homes.

According to official figures, the number of Christians living in the #WestBank has fallen from 6% in 1967 to just over 1% today. FRANCE 24's correspondent Majed Saeed reports.

In Hebron there's the main street, Shuhada Street, there's a checkpoint where they [the Palestinians] can come in and out, where they're checked. My friends would always strip them, not letting them in even though they had entry permits. It doesn't matter what or with which positive approach they arrived, they simply didn't let them in without a security check which bordered on humiliation.

The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory and Israel was established by the UN Human Rights Council in 2021 to investigate alleged violations of international humanitarian and human rights law. Its three-member panel of independent experts does not officially speak for the UN. In its latest report, the commission accused Israeli authorities and security forces of deliberately targeting Palestinian children in Gaza and said their actions amount to genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. Israel has strongly rejected the commission’s findings and accusations of genocide. Its foreign ministry called the report a “libellous sham”, accused the commission of bias and said the allegations had not been properly verified. Israel has repeatedly said it does not deliberately target civilians and that its military operations are directed against Hamas.
