A hell of a ride (Day 1)
A few days ago, I started the biggest adventure of my life. I made my dream come true. I got on a plane to the other side of the world. To Japan. Another continent, and it also feels like another world. It feels like I started another life in a parallel universe. So it all started at the airport where I said Goodbye to one the most precious people in the world. Where I left a part of myself behind just to grow a little bit more. Just to sail behind the horizon. It made my heart leap, my soul weep, but it was a necessary step for myself. So I find myself on that 13-hour plane ride wondering what the next six months will be like. At the Narita International Airport, I was greeted by my student tutor who is helping me to get along in university and Japanese life in the next months.
Landing in somewhere where everything is different is always hard, I suppose. Anyways first thing I noticed was that I forgot my credit card. Thanks to this wobbly mass that I call my brain. In the end, I now have to pay everything with debit card until I get my credit card send to me. That was the first shock. The second was when I arrived at the dormitory and my room wasn't even cleaned out, so I had to stay at a hotel for the first night. It was a pro-con situation because I could finally shower, which I couldn't have at the dormitory at the time because of my lack of towels, but on the other hand I didn't have a room yet and everything felt quite uncertain. It was just all too much at once.
Later in the evening (at the time I met another student of the university and also my designated professor) we went out for dinner to a sport bar.
My first day in Japan ended with me showering in the hotel room and phoning my precious friends before going to sleep.
As to be expected it was quite strenuous, but I was too excited to feel the effects of the time shift. All in all, and I've said it before, it was quite an adventure.
