Antifascist Weekend Wrap-Up!
This past weekend turned out to be a big, big weekend for antifascists all around the world, with significant victories in three different countries.
In Dover, England: Fascist scum, who apparently didn’t learn their lesson from the last time they went to Dover, tried to stage another unwanted anti-immigrant demo here on Saturday. Two big differences this time:
1) the fash were much smaller in number and those who bothered to turn up were absolutely cowed by the 400+ antifa there to “greet them.”
2) A massive police presence was the only thing that kept the bigots out of harm’s way.
Knowing that the police were not likely to let us get near the fash a second time, Anti-Fascist Network crews from Berkshire, Brighton, Bristol, London, Oxford, and Portsmouth joined up with Kent anti-racists & Action Anti-Fasciste Calais and filled refugee aid vehicles with donated goods bound for the refugees stuck in Calais, then escorted the vehicles to the Calais-bound ferry - all this in full view of the silent and stewing nazis, who chose not to make good on their threats by coming out from behind the phalanx of coppers protecting them.
The fash were then kettled and blocks for hours until the coppers were able to force a way through the antifa lines for the nazis. This time though, their numbers were down 50% and they meekly stumbling along in silence. Full report here.
In Melbourne, Australia: 500 anti-racists rallied in response to a tiny group of UPF bigots waving an Islamophobic banner at a football match a few days beforehand. Of course, your average Islamophobe isn’t smart enough to know where they’re not wanted (which is anywhere!) so a ragtag band of bigots showed up to counterprotest and were quickly dispatched by local antifa, who managed to pick up some of the trash left behind:
In Göthenburg & Uppsala, Sweden: The LOLdiers of Odin tried to run some “patrols” Saturday night. In Göthenburg locals responded by injured five of the LOLdiers so badly that two amulbances and eight police cars were dispatched to the scene. The Uppsala patrol, perhaps sensing that they were not very welcome either, made sure their police buddies gave them an armed escort all night long, which maybe have prevented them from being attacked but did not stop Uppsala antifa from heckling them the entire time; nor did it stop local passerby from openly mocking them.
Three countries, two continents, hundreds of antifa - all demonstrating very clearly that Islamophobes, nazis, and racists will never have have our streets!
