Theory: Devilman Crybaby is a Prequel to the Manga
If you have read the Devilman manga, you might have noticed the inconsistencies between how Ryo is characterized in Crybaby versus the original manga. There is a theory that’s been going around on twitter and I’m surprised I haven’t seen it being talked about here on tumblr so I’ve decided to put together a post with all the supporting evidence in one place for convenience’s sake; and so that new Devilman fans can see that there is more to Ryo’s character beyond how he is portrayed in the anime. This goes without saying, but this post will be filled with SPOILERS so don’t read it until you’ve at least watched the anime.
