I think the problem is not what side of the political spectrum people are nor the economic condition.

I live in Mexico, which sadly is one of the three top countries with covid-19 cases of infections and deaths (60,0000 official, but real number could be 2.5 times that). Everytime I have to go buy things I need at the convenience store, I always wear both face mask and face shirld. Sadly, I see many people wandering around the street, not wearing face mask nor keeping social distance. They aren't rich nor privileged as far as I know. If anything, they are both ignorant and selfish and boy if they get angry if you try to tell them to please wear it.

I love my country dearly, but it pains me how many Mexicans just do not care and are apathetic to this situation due to a lack of civic culture and sense of responsability. Japan has nearly the same population as Mexico, yet they had far, far less cases. On top, the lethality rate in Mexico is nearly three times the average in the rest of the world.

This current pandemic demands for people to adapt and change their ways. It's not just the meassures like wearing protection, but also the mentality. Again, in countries like Japan people have been wearing face masks in public for a very important reason: it's not just about protecting yourself, but also protecting everyone else. They have a sense of collectivism that is nesrly inexistent in the US and countries like Mexico, where people are more obsessed with individualism and the entitlement that comes with it. It's why in the USA they have the "Karens" (both female and male) while in Mexico we have our "Lady/Lord" (for example, look on Youtube for "Lady tres pesos"). These dumb, stupid and above all selfish people cannot get through their thick, dumb skulls that wearing a mask and protecting others is NOT a violation to their liberties.

It's the equivalent of children in a kindergarden classroom who cannot go out to play because of two or three who misbehave.
