Two Can Play At This Game || Buffy and Lilah
Buffy raised an eyebrow. “Never one to pass up a free drink, but I’d be okay with a soda.” She nodded at the bartender who sent a root beer her way. Hey, maybe she looked juvenile, but she was making a good call-Buffy was the lightest of light weights. She could barely have a scotch and soda without getting a little clingy.
A business meeting, Lilah had called it. Business. Well, Buffy supposed that’s what they were doing, but she still felt this was more an old western showdown, complete with revolvers and tumbleweed. They were both waiting for someone to strike first.
She had to admit, the audacity that Morgan had even called her here was laughable. After all the work her girls did to stop Wolfram and Hart all over the world, after Angel’s involvement-
What was scary was the files he had told her about, the files Lilah had access to. If she knew a lot about the SO and Buffy’s Slayers, she may have to take the liability out. Buffy wanted to say she wasn’t crazy enough to take on Wolfram and Hart, but she was just as global as they were. And the Slayer race stretched on way before them. Plus, not much could scare Buffy, evil wise. Not after the First.
So maybe she was crazy enough. But today, right now, there were other factors to consider. SHIELD, for example, did they even know of the law firm? Buffy made a note to ask later on. There was whatever was hurting her people-and that was it. The real reason she was here, besides figuring out the head of a very dangerous threat to Buffy, the real reason was to figure out if it was them doing this. If she could just figure out what Wolfram and Hart had against SHIELD agent, obviously they didn’t like Slayers, then she could decide if it was them.
And boy, if it was, the combined fury of the Slayers around the world, plus SHIELD, would be there to take them on.
Buffy crossed her legs, hyper aware of the small dagger in the waistband of her pants, and propped up her chin with a hand. “So.” she said. “I got your message. Little shocked, actually. You’re people have been bothering mine for a really long time, even before I set up my bases.” She wasn’t sure if Lilah knew exactly how much Angel had told her about Lilah Morgan and Wolfram and Hart, but best insinuate that she knew everything. “Now, what exactly are you after?
Lilah smirked as she watched the girl drink her soda. It was even a little endearing. From the demons' point of view, this girl was practically a serial killer, yet there she sat, sipping on a root beer. If she wasn't decked out in leather she probably would have been carded just walking in here.
But Lilah knew better. This girl (hardly a girl, Lilah reminded herself) had gone through as much as she had, and then some. This girl fought Angelus and won, something Lilah was familiar with. There was a strength that radiated from her, even if she was drinking root beer. It was beyond the Slayer powers. Lilah had met plenty of them who didn't have this same aura.
The girl made an awkward movement when she shifted. The same awkward movement most people made when she asked them to meet with her. She rolled her eyes and finished her drink.
"I'm going to assume you know more about me than I'm comfortable with," she said, setting her empty glass on the bar. "So you probably know I'm dead, and you should know that whatever weapon you're hiding? Not going to work on me, honey. But don't worry. I'm unarmed. You can search me."
The bartender poured her another drink. If only she could still get drunk....
"As for what I want," she began. "If you know as much as I think you do, then you might be aware that I keep my enemies close." She paused to smooth down her scarf. A deadly reminder that she sometimes kept them too close.... "This is purely to feel you out. You should be flattered. I don't leave the office for just anyone. You're special, Buffy Summers. I could kill you three different ways right now, and you couldn't do a thing about it. But I won't. I just like meeting people before we go head-to-head."
She took a sip of her next drink. The alcohol still burned but slowly, not all at once like it did when she was alive.
"You sure you don't want a drink?" she asked.
