She thought the saving lives thing was a good line.  Then Tara spoke and she felt a few inches shorter as she slid into the chair.  She knew where Tara was coming from.  Caroline hated when Bonnie had been made to do spells that she didn’t want to.  That excuse wouldn’t have flown with her either.

“I get a little intense when my friends are in danger.  I wouldn’t have hurt Liv.  It was just to scare her a little.  I know..I know I shouldn’t have done it.”  Her mind drifted for a moment to Chris and the aftermath of Tyler’s reaction.  “I wouldn’t have hurt her.  I don’t choose one life over another.”  Anymore.

Allowing her argument to sink in, Tara thought she could see a flicker of something across the girl’s face. Regret, perhaps? Or maybe understanding. She hadn’t gotten well acquainted with the Mystic Falls group yet, but she did know they had a witch on their side. It wasn’t hard to guess that Bonnie had had her own hand forced more than a couple of times. Sometimes, it just sort of came with the territory.

"I understand that. We all just want to protect the people we love, but it doesn’t give us the right to hurt other people in the process.” Taking a breath, it seemed Caroline got the point. Tara could only hope it would stick and she wouldn’t try another tactic like that next time something crazy happened. “Next time you need a witch, just... come to me, okay? I’m not just here to study.”

“I’m just making conversation.”  It was a way to open up the conversation towards getting her to join the group and wanting to help.  “I figured since Liv was and you guys are so close that you are too.”

She wondered if she should apologize to her for what she heard.  That wasn’t always how she operated but people’s lives were at stake.  If only she could make her understand.  “I do what I have to save lives,” she finally blurted out.

“Subtle,” she comments. If that was her opener, Tara wasn’t so sure she wanted to stick around to see where the conversation was leading. She needed something from her and clearly, she wasn’t above dishing threats if it got her what she wanted.

Making no further comments, it grows silent between them and she turns her attention back to her assignments. She was half-expecting Caroline to get up and leave, but instead she offered an excuse for how she had acted. Breathing a sigh, she looks up in disbelief. “Is that supposed to make what you did okay? You... you don’t get to treat people like that. Witches are not puppets. If Liv didn’t want to help you then that should have been the end of it.” Tara could understand wanting to save lives, it was why she had come here of all places, but the way she was going about it crossed a line.
