Matt’s gaze lit up with the presence of suspicion when he realized that Alejandro was right there by his side…and had been, all day. It was unusual for the other man. Typically, he didn’t seem to want to have much to do with Matt outside of working. He looked over at him, raising an eyebrow.

“Is everything okay with you today? You seem…different.”

Alejandro had had a horrible nightmare on his nap, he had dreamed of the things that had happened three months ago, he had dreamed of the way he almost died, he had dreamed about everything that happened and today, now, he just wanted to hug Matt’s arm and watch television in silence.

“uhnm…” Alejandro just hugged Matt’s arm more and hid his face against him.

Matt knew he probably shouldn’t question this. That if Alejandro really wanted to talk about it - what was going on and his sudden clingy behavior - then he would do it on his own without being asked to. Deciding to keep silent rather than push more questions on him, he simply wrapped his arms around Alejandro and silently pulled him closer - so much so that he was now right up against his chest.

“Stuffed animal, Alejandro? Really?” Matt asked with a small chuckle as the man handed him the small lynx cub. Such a strange act from Alejandro of all people. The man was all business and no play usually. Or…was this a trick of some kind? An attempt to make himself look bigger? That brought a humored smile to Matt’s lips.

“It’s cute, I like it,” he said, deciding to play along. He lifted the stuffed animal up and placed it’s mouth to Alejandro’s cheek. “Look, it gave you a kiss.”

Alejandro rolled his eyes, he wouldn’t get the stupid toy for Matt, he didn’t have to do it, he wasn’t obliged, why couldn’t Matt just pick up and be quiet?

“I don’t care.” Why he had to care? he didn’t have to obey Matt outside the missions “Sick of my attitudes? Really?” I’m sick of you. 

Matt rolled his own eyes. He didn’t know what the hell Alejandro’s problem was anymore. Well, actually, he had always been a bit stubborn, but...just not to this degree.

“Then why are you still here, Alejandro, huh? Why even bring me the damn stuffed animal? Why?”

Matt was slowly stepping into the tub, having made sure it was just the right temperature for both of them. Shame on Alejandro for having gotten so dirty. This was exactly why Matt didn’t trust him alone. Not anymore. Once he was in the tub, he reached his hand out for Alejandro expectantly, snapping his fingers to hurry him.

“Come on, get in. I have to clean you off, Alejandro.”

Alejandro felt as if his consciousness was fading away, as if everything was going off, his head was tilted to the side and he had his eyes rolling back, but then he felt Matt hold his arm, and that made him wake up, it was almost like a shock connecting his whole body again, Alejandro open his eyes again confused for a few moments until he came back to reality.

“…” Alejandro was looking at Matt and smiling a little, he was much more relaxed now. Just hoping that the bath was quick.

Matt kept his concerned gaze directly on Alejandro, watching his facial features as he wiped some of the dirt away. There was a tenderness in his movements...and in his grip on Alejandro’s arm, even. Now was hardly the time to get emotional, but damn...the guilt was circling in Matt’s mind like a group of hungry sharks. If Alejandro didn’t make it out of this alive? Well, then that was on Matt.

“I-I’m sorry...” Those were the only words he could manage to get out, dipping the rag back into the water so he could clear the dirt and blood.

“You threw it in the trash. You should be the one to get it for me...” Matt said, his eyebrow raising. Honestly, he was seeing Alejandro’s childishness more and more as the days went on. Matt wasn’t a hard man to wake up in his sleep; particularly not after Alejandro’s recent incident. As soon as the shouting came, he shot up, his eyes wide as he looked around and took a few seconds to adjust to the situation. Alejandro. Another nightmare. They seemed to be getting worse. 

Matt shifted closer and took hold of one of Alejandro’s shoulders, carefully shaking him in hopes he would awaken without too much of a fright. “A-Alejandro? Hey, wake up. Wake up,” he said, his voice calm as he knew his friend would need a steady tone to wake up to.

Matt had no idea what had happened - perhaps the two were high on something or he was just seeing things - but when he looked to Alejandro, he was no longer an adult. Instead, he was younger. Much younger. A teenager, it appeared. How was this even possible? He blinked in confusion, tilting his head curiously as he stepped forward to touch young Alejandro’s face.

“A-Alejandro, something’s…wrong…” He said, cocking an eyebrow when he realized his voice was a tad less deep than normal. He now reached to touch his own face, a frown appearing on his lips. “What the hell…?”

Alejandro shook his head negatively, how could this be his fault? This was surely Matt’s fault, Matt must have irritated some Mexican witch on their last trip, that was the only reason that was in Alejandro’s mind, probably the only reason that happened.

“Uhn!” He grunted, crossing his arms visibly angry and earnestly hungry, what would they do? What? And how could Alejandro communicate now? How? He can’t !

“Why aren’t you saying anything? Did you forget how to talk or something?” Matt asked, raising an eyebrow. May have sounded as if he was giving the other sass, but that wasn’t the case. He genuinely wanted to know why his friend wasn’t responding to the situation with actual words.

With a sigh, he looked down at his own hands, examining them once again as if he was still having a little trouble believing all this. Maybe this was a dream? People couldn’t just suddenly become younger, that was impossible.

Alejandro seemed to wake up from a trance the moment he felt Matt’s hand, opening his eyes with visible surprise, he looked around trying to understand where he was, and then gradually he noticed what was happening, he was in the tub.

“Ahnm? "Alejandro closed his mouth, and gradually his eyes began to close, he was so tired, he couldn’t stay awake for a long time, he just wanted to sleep, rest a little “Ahunm…ah…”

Matt nearly found himself smacking Alejandro’s cheek to keep him awake, but hastily stopped himself. That would definitely irritate the wound and given it’s current state, he couldn’t risk making it worse. Instead, he gently grabbed Alejandro’s arm and gave it a gentle tug.

“Awake, Alejandro. I need you to stay awake. Keep your eyes open,” he said, starting to chew on the bottom of his lip. All this lost blood...Matt was starting to fear for his friend’s life. Still keeping hold of Alejandro’s arm, he gently pressed the clean rag to his dirty face, careful to avoid the wound for the time being.

Alejandro didn’t know what had happened, didn’t know why he and Matt were so young, Alejandro looked at his hands and breathed deeply, he couldn’t speak, Alejandro knew he couldn’t say anything, after all, if he said something Matt would discover the voice Alejandro had when he was younger, and honestly, the voice wouldn’t be very good for his reputation.

“…” Alejandro was beginning to bite the corner of his thumb, he quickly stepped back a few steps not wanting Matt to touch him.

“! ! ! "Alejandro just took a deep breath and stared at Matt as if this was all his fault.

Matt looked back up at Alejandro, dipping his brows in suspicion. What the hell was he staring at him like that for? Even with that young face, Matt could just tell he was somehow blaming him for all this. It wasn’t his fault, though. He hadn’t the slightest idea why any of this was happening, but there was hardly any sense taking time to mull it over right now. Only thing on Matt’s mind was finding a solution.

“Stop lookin’ at me like that. It’s not my fault. You probably did something.”

“I forgive you for what you did to me, and I’m going to stay here.” He just need to ignore Matt’s words.

Matt stared at him for a few seconds, silently, his brow raising at Alejandro’s words. Not acting like a baby? Yet he clearly just said something that a child would say. He cracked a small smile, hoping it would ease the tension. “Oh come on. I started it? I said that kind of thing when I was five.”
