I tried to finish a campaign proposal five times before I deleted the entire document and let my forehead fall to my desk. It wasn’t until I heard my name that I even picked my head up.
“Vera?”
My stomach clenched. I scrambled up, digging through my bag for my mobile. It took forever to turn on, but I was able to catch a glimpse at all of my notifications. Liam had called eight times, left two voicemails, and I couldn’t even scroll through all of his texts to me before the footsteps grew closer to my cubicle.
“Vera…what are you doing?”

“What if I fall over?” It felt like a very probable action. Sitting made me dizzy.
“I’ll keep you steady.” Harry said, flexing his hands again and urging me to take them. I let out a puff of air and grabbed one of his hands urging my body up with the strength I got from seeing his bicep flex. My vision may have been a little hazy but that arm was crystal clear. “Whoa, calm down love.” His lips were against my temple (unknown to me) but apparently I gave way slightly on my trip to a vertical position because he was holding my hand and my waist.
Being sick really made me pay attention 50% of the time. My nose was resting against his shoulder, the palm of my hand still covering my mouth because even in my snotty state I didn’t want Harry to smell the stench of my vomit.
“Sorry, just a little stumble.” I replied but this time I don’t think he understood a single word that came out of my mouth.

Chapter One (or the one where Teddy met Harry)
‘You’re late. Again. I mean, it’s not that I didn’t expect it but the funny thing is that you’re actually pretty consistent in the amount of time you’re late. It’s always seven minutes. You’d think if you can manage to always be late for exactly seven minutes you could.. I don’t know.. maybe set your alarm seven minutes earlier?’, Lola, my best friend and co-worker since I’ve come to London three years ago greeted me when I entered our office.
Lola and I were in charge of running London’s first ever ‘Rent-a-Gran’ agency. While I was still in uni back home in Germany, I interned at this small start-up business that provided babysitters for parents who needed someone to look after their children on a regular basis. Only they didn’t work with teenaged babysitters but instead elderly people who didn’t have grandchildren of their own or who simply enjoyed looking after children because it brightened their days. When I saw their advert in the student paper I knew that this was a brilliant idea, so I applied for an internship and somehow, it seems, I did a good job because after having interned with the small business for a year and then having worked full-time for them for another, they asked me if I would like to manage their first agency abroad.

sometimes i want to pull my hair out because i want to see just ONE female character i can relate to in terms of their romantic/sex life
i want to see a girl in her mid twenties who has never been kissed
i want to see a girl who is confused because she has literally no experience
a girl that has panic attacks when she thinks of sex and cant stop thinking about what kissing is like while also being terrified of it
a girl who cant figure out her sexuality because she’s never gotten to try
a girl who self destructs because shes terrified of how bigger her baggage gets with age
i’m sick of seeing woman in tv and movies who date and have sex and still have relationship hangups, not because that doesnt exist but because i cant relate to those women
i want to turn on the tv and see a 25 year old woman who has never been with anyone, was genuinely not looked at for a long time and has become terrified of attention, who’s anxiety cheats them out of dating, who greets every birthday with this feeling of dread in the pit of their stomach because they’re getting older and older and it feels weirder and more wrong with every passing year
i know i’m not the only woman like this, but with the way the media is, it’s maybe the most alienating baggage i carry. everywhere i look, it’s weird that this is my experience. i feel ashamed and i feel scared that i one day have to tell a person to their face that i’m am adult who has never had a first kiss. its terrifying and consuming and confusing and awful. you start to believe it isnt meant for you - not just sex, or intimacy, but fucking love itself. because you dont turn on the tv and see people like you. “unlucky in love” means slightly clumsy and loud on dates and fear of commitment. its a quirky girl who probably has had sex with multiple people and just ~cant figure it out~!!!!!
