Hiii! I’ve been struggling to remind myself why I’m on this site. Truthfully, I feel like I’ve been caught up with not writing for myself and writing for all of you. However, feeling like readers don’t have an interest in my work anymore or are no longer interested in speaking to me has been really disheartening, destabilizing, and difficult. I’d like to take some time for myself to remind myself why I write and who I write for.
I’ve struggled with this for months, always telling myself that I write for myself, and myself alone. But if that were true, I wouldn’t be here sharing. I share here in the hopes of capturing a few moments that you identify with, of perhaps making you laugh or smile or cry, of engaging in a conversation about writing and what it can do. When I don’t hear much, it tells me that nobody cares. Perhaps some people are not bothered by silence.
I am not that sort of person. I hope you understand.
Thank you to those who are unbelievably supportive and kind to me. Every lovely message you have sent goes a long way, and I truly appreciate it. HEIST will not go on hiatus, and I will continue sharing when I feel better.

A Big Thank You!!
1daaw is coming to an end and I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you so much to everyone who participated. There was so much love and positivity on my dash for the last four days and it’s been incredible to see. I hope it’s given a boost to anyone who was feeling a bit down on their writing and inspired everyone to keep pursuing their projects. I can’t wait to see what comes out of it in the weeks to come.
I mentioned in my post yesterday that I have never met a group of kinder, more generous, more welcoming people than the ones that make up this community and this weekend has only proven that point a hundredfold, and its success is entirely because of all of you. So I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone, and I hope you’ve enjoyed the weekend as much as I have!
Day 4- 1daaw
When I started reading fic, I was a silent reader. I thought that all these authors ( because that is what you are, each and every one of you) wouldn’t care what I thought… Boy was I wrong!! Commenting and talking to each and everyone of you has enhanced my life so greatly and I consider you all some of the greatest friends I have ever made and some of the greatest people I have ever had the chance to know.
@bioluminescentwriting Kath, you were the first person I ever sent a message to off anon. Thank you for being so kind and wonderful, tolerating my absolutely messy crazy off the wall commentary about salute. And responding in kind ( with more prepared, put together thoughts than my own) to those messages. It was you who gave me the confidence to comment on more fics and let people know just how much I enjoyed their hard work. Thank you for being my personal cheerleader through the last month of school. You mean more than mini eggs to me too.
@littlebird006 Allison, you were another one of the first people that I commented off anon to. I think my reviews to you have just gotten crazier and crazier. I had started reading RD and was sucked in and then got hooked on DE and ever since, you have been a wonderful person to look up to and admire and talk to.
@alwaysinstylesfics Essie, you have been such a wonderful friend to talk to and yell about Harry with. I cannot wait to read more of your writing. Thank you for always being a bright and shiny human being that is always willing to talk ( about Harry or cupcakes, both work).
@inkoasis Nick Nack, thank you for being an amazing person and coming up with nicknames for us and football sports Harry because I didn’t know I needed it until I started reading it. And for interpreting my yelling when it was almost totally unintelligible.

i know everyone has made this post but i’m going to go ahead and make another one because i want people to know that i love them. i’m usually terrible at letting people know how i feel about them so here goes.
so, i created my 1dff account on December 2012 and ever since then i’ve posted and deleted a few of my fanfics and i’ve also read a lot of fanfics. then on 2014, i joined the 1dff boards and i’ve been making banners since then (i looked at my old banners the other day and they were horrid!)
anyway there were times when i feel like quitting because writing can be so hard and it doesn’t help that English is not my first language. but whenever i feel like quitting, i would take a few steps back and that’s when i realise just how much i love this community. and these are the people who make me wanna stay:
first of all, my readers. whether you’ve stuck with me since the beginning or you’ve only started reading my fics recently, i can’t thank you enough for giving me reasons to continue writing and sharing so thank you thank you thank you.

if you rewind to March 2012 you’d find a depressed, anxious girl who had failed at moving out of home, didn’t know her place in the world, was failing at uni because she hated her course, and couldn’t get a job to save herself. Her mum was also sick and her sister was doing her final year of high school so her best friend was too stressed to be a support. She’d found a slice of happiness in a boyband (that she told herself she only like because the nostalgia factor was high) and with a lot of time on her hands, she found herself in her first ever fandom. Then she discovered what fan fiction was. Then, because she really had too much time on her hands, she thought she’d try to write some of her own.

SO I was mostly out of pocket during 1daaw except for a (slightly) looney tunes post…turns out I was drunk and getting my period - YAY for overreacting.

Honestly, ever since becoming a fanfic writer myself I’ve become like 500% more understanding and patient about other authors’ update schedules. An author takes 6+ months to post their next chapter? Yeah, totally get that real life can get in the way. An author abandons a fic? Disappointing, but it it happens- sometimes inspiration for a story just dies. An author apologizes about taking so long to post a 10k word chapter? Dude, that’s like 18-20 pages on Word single-spaced. It takes me at least a week to write an essay for school a quarter the length of that, and that’s with a deadline.
It’s probably the most important thing writing fanfic has taught me, tbh. How to fully appreciate the hard work someone else has put into their story. How important the role of the audience is to an author. And that no matter what, you are never entitled to demand more of a story that you are getting for free.
