RUMOR HAS IT… She’s known for being loud and proud, but really, it’s just obnoxious. Doesn’t she realize that everyone can see through that persona she’s putting up? Always acting like she’s the strongest member and the protector of her little group of friends, but she doesn’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. Doesn’t she realize that trying to be the mom of the group means the little children are going to hide their secrets from her?
Having a happy childhood must have been every parent’s wish for their children. When her parents’ eyes met hers for the first time, they immediately decided to live up to that belief. Love can make one do things that they never expected themselves to do and so they decided to sacrifice their time for this new bundle of joy. It would have been regretful if they had to miss out on their daughter’s growth. Dorcas’ early years were filled with laughter and loads of love. As a young half-blood, the book of blood supremacy was not thrown in her face nor was she molded into a perfect lady for her future betrothal. Her life was, in one word, simple. Having a passport to both worlds allowed her to experience opportunities that were beyond a normal muggle or wizard’s expectations. She had the chance to fly on a broomstick, watch movies in a drive-in theatre and chat with her muggle cousins on the line all in one day. No muggle in the right mind would believe her if she was to spill parts of the wizarding world in her sleep. They would say it was just a mere figment of a child’s imagination. Despite that, it was truly the happiest period in her life. The freedom she was gifted with turned her into a carefree little bird who chirps loudly every day as she sings a song of joy.
It was a day before her tenth birthday. Her parents brought Dorcas out for camping at a campsite. The sun had already set when they arrived, and muggles gathered around self-made campfires as they share horror stories to their family and friends. The Meadowes family set their camper van ten meters away from the forest – a quieter spot away from the crowd. The family huddled together under a large warm blanket in front of the fire, chatting just about anything; from star constellations to Mrs Meadowe’s years in Hogwarts. Dorcas had always loved to hear stories about her mother’s years as a student. It made her excited to grow up and get her very own wand. Night crawled with mother nature being the only noise that can be heard. Dorcas quietly slipped on her slippers, lighted a torch and sneaked out of the van. The forest had struck her curiosity since they arrived and there was no harm checking it out. It was dead quiet except for the cracking of leaves breaking under her feet as she wandered deeper into the dark. That was when she heard a low growl behind some bushes. Slowly peeking into the leaves to see what was hiding behind, the sight could have traumatized a young girl. A wolf was found feeding on a dead deer. It was a ghastly sight for just anyone to witness. The sound of shock escaped her mouth almost immediately, alerting the wolf. Saliva dripped from its mouth as it rise , standing on its back hind legs. The creature was not a normal wolf but a werewolf.
The howl from the werewolf broke the silence before starting to chase Dorcas who was already having a head start. Sweat began forming on her forehead as she panted, her legs running aimlessly. She was lost. Her life flashed before her eyes as death inched closer with the creature catching up. Then she heard her name being called in the distance, immediately knowing who the owners are. Her parents must have searched for her after realizing that she was missing. Dorcas ran in the direction of the voices, tears welling up her eyes. The word ‘werewolf’ was muttered under Mrs Meadowes’ shaking breath when their eyes set upon the figure speeding behind the girl. Her husband knew exactly what to do. He grabbed his rifle and quickly he pushed both daughter and mother away from him. Giving Dorcas one last sad look, he diverted the wolf’s attention on him and ran deeper into the woods. The little girl was screaming and yelling, practically trying to push away her mom’s grip on her wrist. Her mother was heartbroken, but she had no choice. Dorcas’ safety has always been their priority. After they managed to get out of the forest, a gunshot was heard. Dorcas waited in the van for the rest of the night and soon dawn approached, there was no sign of her father. He was found dead when the search rangers were deployed in the morning.
Years passed and Dorcas was finally able to attend Hogwarts. When she got sorted into Gryffindor, everyone thought it was a mistake. Did the hat place a quiet and cold being into the house of lions? But the hat was never wrong. It felt the courage deep within her, but it was suppressed by layers of fear and insecurity. Ever since the incident, Dorcas had blamed herself for her father’s death. She spent most of her time in her room and refused to leave the house. Her mother tried talking to her but her behavior never improve. So when she received her Hogwarts letter, it was the first time in a long while she stepped out of her room and into the outside world again. Her days in school made her feel alone more than ever. Nobody wanted to approach her due to the expression she carried with her – a straight face with no sign of happiness. She spent most of the hours in the girls’ bathroom when school’s out for the day. Even the ghost of Myrtle Warren found her boring. It was one day a girl from Gryffindor approached her. Apparently, her pet went missing and she asked Dorcas to help to look for it. The duo managed to find it and even had conversations on the way back to the common room. That was how she became accepted into a small group of friends. Along the way, she found out that a cheerful person attracts people to them while cold, quiet people have the opposite effect. In fear that her friends would leave her alone, she hid her true self behind a mask that spelled happiness. With her head held high, she felt like a whole new person, like she’s possessed by another soul.
It was during the end of her seventh year where she was approached by one of the Carrows. She was offered the chance of a lifetime. Anything she wanted will be hers but in trade for the secrets of her friends. It was an absurd trade. As great as the reward may sound, betraying her close friends was the last thing Dorcas would do. She cared a lot about them as they were the only ones that she had besides her mom. The decision was tough, and the offer kept visiting her mind often. Even when she managed to forget about it, the Carrow will always find a way to remind her. After graduation, she joined the Order immediately, following her friends. She had always been standing against the dark side since young. Her father was the bravest and kindest muggle she had ever met and she’s sure there are plenty of innocents just like him. It will be her duty to protect them. Dorcas also took up the job as a Mediwitch. Similar to a healer but she got to work as a field doctor, meaning that she will be frequenting not only the hospital but event areas as well. Besides the perk of getting a free ticket to wizarding events, she’s always needed when someone gets injured during the event. It was something she had always wanted to do since the incident – to make sure people stay alive before they get whisked into St Mungo’s Hospital. If only help came earlier for her father.
When Voldemort took over the Ministry, hospital staff were recruited by the Death Eaters. Dorcas was not around during that moment due to a private event, so she managed to avoid recruitment. But not forever. They might recruit field doctors too and she does not want to be trap in that nightmare. Therefore, she had decided to join those that will be fighting for the good. It will be the least known place to be discovered. Or that’s what she thought.
NARCISSA MALFOY – Stuck together for a project for a mutual class Dorcas had expected to hate the youngest of the Black sisters, and sure she was certainly rough around the edges. But once she got past that Dorcas almost saw a person who wanted to do the right thing… if only she had someone who’d show her what that was. To this day Dorcas knows that there’s more than meets the eye with Narcissa and wonders if she could be of help to the Order.
MOLLY WEASLEY – It’s not that Dorcas likes Molly more than she does Fabian or Gideon, it’s just that when it comes to the advice that she needs Molly has it all. She tries not to drop in on her cousin too often unannounced especially with her having a family that’s growing every day.
AMYCUS CARROW – The end of the seventh year she was approached by one Amycus Carrow who offered her the chance of a lifetime. Anything she could ever want out of life would be hers but only if she agreed to turn over the trade secrets of her friends. An offer that still remains on the table, he frequently reminds her, should things get just a little too hard.
