How to Pronounce That Pesky R Sound
Do you know that the R sound is one of the most commonly used sounds in English? No wonder we notice when our kids can't accurately pronounce it. Typically, the R sound is one of the last sounds that children acquire and usually not maturing until age ages 6 or 7, as you can see in the speech sound developmental chart posted below. Since kids learn to pronounce it later on, I often hear parents saying, “Oh, just wait. It will get better on it's own.” In many cases it will, but sometimes, children need a bit of extra help.
