Maybe There Is A Beast by Hannah Kennedy // Blog // Portfolio
Hey look, some finished work! Nice to finally post some non-sketches. I have a lot more work from last semester to add, once I get around to touching them up, for you internet. Hope you enjoy!
thanks to my lotf knowledge... 8 IN ENGLISH LIT YAAA
So I picked this thing up while revising for my exam in a few weeks time.I found this quote on one of the last pages:
“A little boy who wore the remains of extraordinary black cap on his red hair and who carried the remains of a pair of spectacles at his waist, started forward, then changed his mind and stood still.”
My personal interpretation is that the “little boy” is just Jack Merridew from the Officers perspective as he has no authority and power to the Officer - he’s just a boy. This is backed up by the “red hair” which Jack has, and the “extraordinary black cap” which is the remains of the civilized person he was before. And the glasses part doesn’t really need to be explained...
But the end bit its like “he changed his mind,” so like, he goes to say something and tries and make his point but then realizes he has no power against the Officer.
What do you guys think?
Roses are red, Violets are blue, I won't date you but I'd date jack merridew.
Jack Merridew described in two sentences.
“We’re not savages.”
*Burns down island*
Why was the fact that Jack is supposed to be so ugly so significant in the book? Like, surely if he was meant to represent the cruelty and wickedness in this world then he would be represented as the devil. And the devil is supposed to be really attractive, hence the phrase “handsome devil,” like how does that work?
Wake Jack Up Inside
