I was looking up pictures to talk about for this blog and of course I come upon a picture of the power rangers....

Sadly, I can say that I used to watch this show so much when I was a little kid and I do not know how I liked it. Just as you can see from the picture this was probably the most overly dramatic kid's tv show ever produced. They had crazy fighting suits and weird weapons but what the picture reminds me the most about when I watch it is how they used to move. A bad guy could flick them on the head and you could swear they that they got hit with a truck

Prep

In the past few weeks, we have been discussing the book Prep in class. This is a book about a teenage girl who decides to go to a private boarding school that is way out of her league and the book basically just talks about her everyday struggles throughout her four years at the high school Ault. The whole book revolves around a girl named Lee, her time at Ault, and the so-called friends she makes at Ault. In my opinion, Lee is a girl who doesn’t know her place in the world she lives in and pushes everyone that could be good for her away because she can not see them for who they actually are. Or, Lee knows exactly what her place is but she is ashamed of it and tries to hide it from everyone at Ault but while doing this she ends up losing her since of self. You really notice how far Lee has gone or how much she has lost herself in the part of the book when you read about parents weekend. During this chapter, Lee did not want her parents to come to visit her at the school because she was embarrassed about the states her family is and she was scared that people would see who she really was and how she was nothing like them. Her parents ended up coming and her dad talked with everyone, it seemed like the other people really enjoyed their presents but Lee was so focused on thinking that they would see her family as failures she was blinded to the fact that they actually liked them.

This is a picture from Scarface a famous movie that came out in 1983. I have never seen the movie itself, so I am just going to talk about what I get from the image above. From this picture, I just see a man who seems to be mentally and physically defeated, I see a Drug-lord who has to meet the dead end to the path he has chosen to take his life down.

A Series of Unfortunate Events

I recently watched a Tv series on the Netflix streaming platform called “A Series of Unfortunate Events” and I can honestly but respectfully say I have never watched a Tv series that made me so mad before this one. The series is centered around an orphan children bunch who are siblings and their parents die in a fire just as they find out that they are apart of some sort of secret organization. the whole series however many seasons it was, was the story of the sad life of the orphans and the whole time I just wanted to help them because everyone was so blind to their problems but yet it was so oblivious. The main reason I disliked the show or I should say I was just really annoyed or aggravated was because no matter what the kids did or who they meet misfortune always followed them and they deserved so much better because they really where inspiring and generally great human BEngs The show was just really annoying to the point I didn’t want to watch it anymore, but I kept watching it in hopes of the kids would finally get their happy ever after ending they deserved.

Bella In Class Discussion

This previous Wednesday in my modern fiction class we talked about the last Bella short story and had a pretty good and well thought out discussion in class on what we thought things meant and what we thought those things represented. One of the topics that were brought up was how he used to be a runner for track in college but ended up getting hurt, we decided or some of us in the class figure that the main character getting hurt and not being able to run again was the main reason he was such a bumbed out guy. When we got on the subject of him getting hurt it and that injury stopping him from doing what he loved it made me remember when I had to go three months without working out. Working out is a huge part in my life and when it was taken away from me it really did a toll. The class discussed how he loved running so much and he was so attached to it, that when it got taken away from him, he almost made an inner commitment to himself to never get that attach to something like that again. Then we started to discuss how some people thing the main character is gay, he probably was I do not know.

Walmart Book

In my modern fiction class, we read the book “Walmart book of the dead” and then later in class we talked about what we thought about the whole thing. One of the questions was something along the lines of did we understand it or did we have an idea of what the book was trying to do. Honestly, I had no idea what I was really reading the entire time through the book, each little story was off the wall wild and weird in its own way and in my opinion had no correlation to the “spells” before each story. As we were talking in class one of my fellow students talked about how you really need to focus on the spell and try to read it in different perspectives to find the reasoning why that spell was matched with that story. So, me being the curious human being I am wanted to get a better understanding of this off the wall book I just read and went back and read a few of the short stories that I kinda found interesting over again to see if I could find the reason why the author matched the spell above with said story under it. I could not find a reason, I don’t know if my mind was not clear enough for me to really process the spell and the story because of the workload I had these past few weeks of what but I didn’t really see a correlation between the two.

Brooklyn 99

One of my favorite tv series right now on hulu is “Brooklyn nine nine. It is a show starring one of my favorite comedic actors Andy Samberg, he is a genius detective named Jake Peralta who constantly spits out 90s movies references, never takes a moment seriously, binges on burritos and coke, all while he still ends up solving the case. Jake’s best friend Charles Boyle is also a main character in the series who plays an odd role. Boyle is what everyone calls him and he is as gross as his last name sounds this guy has a disgusting taste in odd foreign food that no one has ever heard and just has the most weird and gross habits, but he is always there for Jake and I think he is a big reason why Jake is so good at his job. Brooklyn nine nine is filled with off the wall characters which I think represent the extreme of the different types of personalities and I think that is why it makes for such a good watch. I really enjoy this show because it is always funny, constantly has a twist and I have yet to predict what will happen at the end of an episode.

Good Will Hunting

Good Will Hunting is by far one the best movies I have watched in a long time. It seems to me that movies made before the 2000s had more of a story to tell unlike the movies now how its all about the action and the quality of the picture instead of the actual story its telling. Anyway Good Will Hunting is a movie placed in south Boston 1997 about a hidden genius who loves to party in bars, drink his beer, and stroke some balls in the cages. Will Hunting is a janitor at college university which is really know for there high standards in academics. It all starts when a professor places an “unsolvable” problem on the board outside of his class for his students to try and solve for extra credit or so they don’t have to take the final I would assume, I do not know the reason for it, but anyway Will is cleaning after hours and notices the problem on the board and decides to work it out for fun and solves it within minutes. The next day all the students are gathered around the board confused on who solved the problem, the professor askes who ever solved it to please make themselves know but no one claimed it. At the end of the class the professor puts up another problem on the board and waits to see if anyone can solve it. Later that day Will is making his cleaning rounds and notices the new problem and begins to solve it with ease. The professor who is just down the hall taking to one of his colleagues notices Will, keep in mind Will is in janitor’s clothes, messing with the board so he runs over thinking he is messing with the problem as a joke. The professor starts to confront Will and Will starts to tell the professor to fuck off as he runs away. To the professors surprise he sees that Will has solved a problem in 5 minutes that took himself weeks maybe months to solve. The professor is amazed and quickly tries to find out just who this genius of a janitor is by running down to maintenance asking for names and to set up a meeting. The professor finally meets up with Will in a meeting and they begin to talk and solve problems together they both really enjoy it a lot. One day the professor tells Will he must enroll in college and use if knowledge to make something of himself. This pisses of will because he hates the very thought of college and he begins to have a mental breakdown and leaves to go home. The next few weeks when they meet the professor spends all their time trying to find will a therapist to set him straight and get him to see the right path. The professor then sets him up with one of his old long-lost friends, long lost due to reasons, and him and Will do not him it off at all but the friend wants to keep seeing Will because he thinks he can really help him out. There is plenty more to talk about the movie is amazing and you should watch it.

The Last Kingdom

The time is set between 866 and 876 in the United Kingdoms. Osbert is a young skinny nine-year-old boy who is the younger brother of Uhtred jr. and second son of Ealdorman Uhtred Lord of Bebbanburg in Northumbria. The Danes, basically Vikings, raid Bebbanburg and in the process of their raid the Danes kill the first born son Uhtred of Lord Uhtred. Osbert is now the oldest son of Ealdorman Uhtred and then is renamed to Uhtred. Lord Uhtred’s heart is filled with anger and his stomach is hungry for revenge for the death of his first boy son. Lord Uhtred in his blinding rage decides to attack the Danes at their camp in York, the attack went horrible wrong in more ways than one. Lord Uhtred was killed and his son Uhtred was captured by Earl Ragnar the fearless to be turned into a slave of the Danes. Earl Ragnar was intrigued by young Uhtred’s determination to fight at such a young age so Earl Ragnar took him in as a house slave. Uhtred’s uncle Aelfric wrongfully takes the tittle of Ealdorman of Bebbanburg as the rightful heir of the tittle is Uhtred. Uhtred soon befriends Rorik the youngest son of Earl Ragnar and that pushes him close to Earl Ragnar’s daughter. Uhtred soon began to see them as family and Earl Ragnar finally took Uhtred in as one of his sons.

I am really enjoying this series and can not wait to continue it.

The 100

I have been watching a series on Netflix called “The 100″. The show starts out ninety-seven years after a huge nuclear war that completely wiped out everything on earth and leaving it uninhabitable, or that is what they thought. The thought to be only survivors were in the twelve space stations in the Earth’s orbit just before the war broke out. The twelve space stations then realized the only way to survivor long enough in space to one day move back and live on earth again was to link up and form a one massive space station out of all twelve called the “Ark”. The Ark had strict rules with a zero-tolerance policy. No matter the crime or seriousness of the crime committed the consequence was always death, or “floated” is what they called their executions. Unless the person who committed the crime was under the age of eighteen. If the law breaker was under eighteen they were put in jail with no trail or chance to be free, as soon as they turn eighteen they would be floated. Its been nearly a hundred years since the Ark was formed and it is no longer able to sustain life for to much longer, maybe two more years. The council, the head of the Ark, agreed to instead of floating all one hundred minor prisoners they would send them down to earth to see if it is able to sustain life. The council sends the kids down to earth in an escape pod and they crash land damaging all the supplies and gear that they were sent down with to help them survive. The radios were also destroyed in the crash landing and the only type of communication they have with the Ark is the life bands around their wrist that track their vitals. The doors of the space shuttle open and the fresh air and sun hit their faces for the first time ever and everyone is amazed, they all go crazy running around playing just soaking it all up. Multiple days go by they still assume they are alone on earth, they struggle to form a proper tentative community to have order, they just want to be wild. The Ark then realizes that all the supplies that was sent with the kids was destroyed so they make and attempted to send them more, but it gets caught is a mountain range across a lake. A small group bans together to try and cross the lake and hike the mountain range to retrieve the supplies, but on this supply run they quickly discover that not all humanity was wiped out during the war. The kids come across what they call “grounders”, grounders are survivors of the war and are extremely hostile. The one hundred quickly figured out that they were not welcome and were in serious danger. Finally having a common enemy, the grounders, the one hundred are forced to band together to form some type of function society in order to protect themselves to survive. The show them continues with five or six seasons with the “space people” and “the grounders” constantly joining forces and fighting each other, seems like it never ends but it does have a great story within all the chaos.

Manifest

I am here to tell you about the intense NBC original new series Manifest. In the beginning the show seems to be about a normal family who is flying back from a vacation on April 7th, 2013. Our main characters include Ben Stone, Michaela Stone and Cal Stone whose lives are forever changed by the impossible and unexplainable events that occur on their flight. When the families flight home is over booked, Ben’s wife Grace, daughter Olive and parents take the first flight home. Our main characters: Michaela who’s currently debating her engagement back home in New York, her brother Ben, and his 11-year-old son Cal who is currently flighting Leukemia, decided to take the next flight home, flight 828. Flight 828 experiences terrifying turbulence and upon finally landing, they find out that they have returned to a life that had proceeded without them because they have been unexplainably missing and presumed dead for five whole years. Bad Turbulence and time travel? Count me out. Could you imagine returning home 5 years into the future when you had only been on a plane ride for a few hours? Michaela returns to find her fiancé is now married to her best friend, Ben’s wife now has a boyfriend who basically raised Ben’s daughter Olive, and Cal returns to find his twin Olive has aged 5 years and is now 16 while he is still 11. Then it gets even crazier, these passengers start having these “callings” and feel a sort of weird connection to the other passengers on the flight even though they barely know these people. I am not sure how good your conscious is, but It sure makes me wish I has these types of voices in my head. Let me explain why. It’s like they hear their own voice inside their head telling them to do something random and unexplainable. They eventually learn that they have to respond to these callings and do whatever it says because the callings prevent bad things from happening. To the few people around them that know about these callings, it seems like these passengers have these crazy mind reading abilities because they are solving unexplainable crimes and giving information to authorities that a normal person would not just know. The only life who truly benefited from being on fight 828 was young Cal, now five years into the future he is able to beat Leukemia because of the medical advances that have happened while they were “missing”. But that’s not the only thing that happens for Cal, he has these intense callings of his own, but his hare slightly different because he draws out events that are going to happen in the future. Although to some people it may sound super cool to time travel 5 years have unexplained mind abilities, I don’t think I would want to be any of the passengers because of all the turmoil they face. With the government having so many questions and concerns they target these 828 passengers, and even trap some and run awful tests that could possibly kill them. Michaela, Ben, and Cal (with the help of their callings) fight again the government and other authorities to not only protect the lives of other passengers and keep their mind abilities secret, but to also find out what the heck happened on that mysterious flight 828.
