“Hmm…” Jason hummed, trying to think of a response to that, “Well, if you’re in the nurse’s office, than no one expects you to show up for class. There’s a plus.”
“I’m not going to the nurse just to have her tell me to rest it off in the infirmary for a  day or whatever. What would you do without having me around to bother you, anyway?”
Jason frowned, “Should we take you to the nurse? Maybe you’re sick?”
“Like she can do anything. She’s useless.”
“Sure, I mean if you want some company, I’ll join you.” Amberlyn smiles
“Want? Not really. But you might as well come and see what’s there for taking.”
“Isn’t that you, tapping your quill?” She asked, her voice getting more annoyed by the minute.Â
“I didn’ think so…” She says looking at her quill. “Though it could have been. Sorry.”
Nikki looked down at her book,back at Amberlyn, and at her book again. There was no use studying if she wasn’t going to feel well. “It’s whatever. I’m hungry. I’m heading to the kitchens if you are too.”
Jason thought for a moment, he’d just been doing some studying as his, admittedly, closest friend hung out with him. He didn’t think he was humming, but couldn’t recall that he wasn’t, “Uh…I don’t think I was?” He looked around to see if it was anyone nearby.
Closing her eyes for a moment before opening them again, Dominique groaned. “It wasn’t you, then,” she complained. Nikki sat up and looked at Jason. “My head’s been hurting since last night -- I wasn’t even drinking. I don’t know what the hell is wrong with me.”
“Can you stop? You’re giving me a headache.”
Jason looked down at his friend who lay her head in his lap, “What? You want me to leave?”
Dominique groaned. “Then stop humming -- that is you, isn’t it?” she asked, though she couldn’t really be sure. Jason didn’t seem to be the musical type. Maybe it was just a noise in her head.Â
“Stop what? I’m studying?” Amberlyn looks up confused, perhaps she was talking aloud.
“Isn’t that you, tapping your quill?” She asked, her voice getting more annoyed by the minute.Â
“Sorry, I didn’t realize I was being loud.”Â
Are you always this oblivious?
“Can you stop? You’re giving me a headache.”
Louis got a look of hope in his eyes and gave a small smile, “Somethings are worth trying for.”
“And what’re you trying for, Louis? Because honestly, most of the time - I can’t really tell.”
“Honestly?” he started, then paused to think and give a small shrug, “I’m not sure. I’m really not.”
She didn’t know what to say. Of course she didn’t think that Hufflepuffs were just anyone else -- her sister, after all, was one of them as well. But Jason didn’t seem to think of himself in much of a high regard. “What do you mean you’re not sure If anyone’s going to know, it’s you.”
“Well…yeah…” he said, faltering a little.
Nikki patted him on the back, a look of pity in her eyes. “Shame you have to work so hard to find it, Lou. Good on you for trying, though.”
“Well yeah. You have the Hufflepuffs with Hufflepuff traits and then you have Hufflepuffs that are just there because they belong nowhere else.”
Nikki snorted. “So what? You don’t think you’re good for any of that then? Or much of anything at all/ I thought I was the only one allowed to talk badly of you.”

Nikki shrugged. “I can’t tell you what to do. I’m only curious.” She looked down at him, amusement on her face. “Not at all. It’s always on my mind, though, so don’t expect me to apologize for it.”
“No, uh, it’s not a big deal if you want to talk about stuff like that, you know, relationships and such.” Atlas said, hoping he didn’t come off like he was uninterested or bothered by the topic. “I just don’t really think about it much, so I dunno, thinking about it is weird. Like, someone told me they were gay right, and I got all clammed up. Not because being gay is weird or anything, but like, I didn’t know what I was supposed to say. Like, even if someone asked my advice for asking someone out, or if they were having a problem in their relationship, I’d be confused. I guess I just don’t have that sort of social fluency.”
Nikki listened as the boy spoke, interested in his total transparency. He seemed to have no problem telling her what he was inadequate at -- she, on the other hand, was surprised he was even opening up to her at all. "Or you might not know what that sort of thing feels like. Not everyone's sexual in nature." She shrugged. "Nothing wrong with that, you know."
“Man…my hat, I…”
Where on earth did you pick up some of that honest to Merlin good common sense?
Louis laughs then shrugs, “I think I was born with it.”
Nikki can't help but snort at the idea. "You? Born with common sense? There's a good joke."
“What, do you disagree?” She smirked at him. “You’re cute enough, you follow orders, you’re loyal or whatever … I mean, you are a Hufflepuff…”
“Maybe I’m only in Hufflepuff because I don’t fit with anyone else,” he said, shrugging.Â
She shook her head. “Definitely not true. What makes you say that?”
“Well isn’t that how it goes? Hufflepuff takes all the rest?”
"Yeah, but they're more than that, you know. They're loyal, hardworking, all that other kind of shit."
“Man…my hat, I…”
