Some say that in medicine, it eventually gets easier. It does, but it’s not the entire truth. • It gets easier to not feel as bad for prioritizing work over your friends and family. It gets easier to live in a state of chronic sleep deprivation. It gets easier to manage feeling like you’re always a bit short of knowledge or skills. It gets easier to carry the increasing weight of responsibilities. It gets easier to face the constant hardships that medicine throws at you. • So yes, as much as it gets relatively easier, things also get absolutely harder, and every step of the way will bring its own set of challenges. I can’t honestly say that I was expecting all of this before being accepted in medicine. But there’s also not a single day where I’m not grateful for being where I am, for being a medical student and loving it, for being an almost resident, for having a small impact on people’s lives now and for potentially changing my patients’ lives in the future… and I’m so excited for all the new challenges that are about to come my way.
