Global Social Media

Hello guys, I guess this is the last post that we have here. It has been quite a journey from few months back. And this last post is a should be also interesting one, now it is widely known across that the people from China could not access to some of the world’s most famous website or platform. Unlike any of us here, we could access to anywhere as we wanted and as we wish.

And this event occurs is due to The Great Firewall in China, the Chinese government of China took an action in the year 1996. They did this to control the all the direct connections to the internet, with the method of directing them through the international ports that had been established and maintained by the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications.

The creator of The Great Firewall is Fang Binxing, and he is a former computer science professor at Harbin Institute of Tech. in China. During a presentation in China, he even stated that even he himself could not access into Korean websites, this is because Korea and China both have a similar system that could block certain websites.

He also stated that he used VPN before, to gain access into the internet. But sadly, the VPN could not work properly as it dropped out from the internet that required him to add a few ad-libs into his presentation. And in that moment, Fang suffered the experience of not being able to have the privilege to access to popular websites on the internet, the same goes to everyone in China.

The system soon became much more powerful when the moment of Xi Jin Ping rose and become the president in 2012. He had the mindset of thinking that internet and reality should have same political views, standards and ideals. The reason behind of investing in technological upgrades is to monitor and censor contents. In his point of view, he hates how the western countries allowed freedom on the internet for their people, by the looks of it, there is good and there is also bad in certain point. Xi Jin Ping also attempt to make a role model for other countries to take from.

Have you ever wondered, what do the people of China use in the internet access since they do not have any internet access like Google, YouTube, Facebook etc. Well, they have something like Baidu, which is like a chinese Google, it pretty much has the similar function as Google, and also Weibo, which is similar to Instagram, and Tik Tok, I am sure that everyone knows about this as this become very popular in the recent year.

Despite the situation that they are in, some of the netizen will still attempt to bypass their firewall using VPN to have access to the network outside. If they are caught red- handed, China will use several ways to block the website. And they will use DNS poisoning that will poison the DNS caches in the server, this will produce wrong addresses of website and preventing users from accessing into the website.

And now, there are certain things that people of China use to overcome the firewall, one of the things they use is an application called Tuber. Tuber allows user to have access to foreign websites, even though this application a lot of bad review before, but still it is a stepping stone for the people to improve and build a better world.

So in the end, do not take things so lightly, and do not be takes things for granted. Before all this pandemic, we have the liberty to decide where we wanted to go, and what we wanted to do, and now as you know it, we must observe the SOP, and there are many places we are restricted to go in Malaysia. The freedom that we once have, it is not the same as before now. So, treasure what you have now, do what we must do, and let’s help our nation to build a better place, and to regain the normal that we once had.

Social Gaming

This is going to be an interesting post. Hello and good day to you all. A common topic to everyone, where everyone has something in common, I remember the first time I ever played a game is using a Nokia 3310, that time Snake game is very popular since we do not have much in the past. 

Even with just pressing a few buttons with a few inches of display with no graphic, only pixel and dot, can bring such joy to us. We would still compare our score of the game together.

What Social Gaming is all about?

Social Gaming, the meaning of it usually refers to tabletop. For easy understanding, it is basically an activity of playing online games that allows user to have social interaction with one and another in social network.

Growth of Social Gaming

Back that, the first game ever created called Pong by Atari Corporation, it is basically a tennis game with two- dimensional graphic that is released in 1972. And it become a huge hit and it is announced the first commercially successful game that allow 1 or 2 human players to compete. After the home edition is out in 1975, total 150 000 unit were sold at that time.

Back then it is just a two- dimensional game, after the coming year, we had console games and pc games that came out where the graphic become even more 3D and many features, even console not with normal controller but with guns controller on certain games. And on that process, the had invented LAN party game where gaming could be more and more interesting with member and party competing.

But in today’s world, gaming experience now had exceeded far more than superior, where it become more futuristic, it is an experience where player could feel the gaming environment. Games like Dying Light, Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA 5 and so on. And it comes with global server, tournament and events are held once a year. Player from all around the world coin join without having travel to one place to another, thanks to internet.

Here you can get a glimpse of how gaming had evolved till this current day.

Conclude

However, there is some side effect due to too much gaming, depending on situations they may be good, or they may be bad. Sometime too much of something is actually a bad thing. So, keep a look out to yourself, not to overly done it yourself. Remember there are still many things to experience except gaming.

Fandom

nother day another post ~ How’ve you been doing? Hectic week that is, and crucial one as we know what is going on to the world. And I wish all of you are well and safe.

What is Fandom?

Fan is noun for someone who is interested, admired, idolized with someone of star like in film, a show, a real celebrity, where they would involve themselves into fandom. And these people would also involve themselves to fan page in the social media or to the celebrity page and account personally, such as Instagram, Facebook or even YouTube.

And of course, wearing one’s shirt or going to certain showcase or concert might does not mean you are fan or it. I could be wearing the shirt of Dragon Ball, but I personally like Attack On Titans, so it’s not necessary to be fan to be a fandom. There are no actual rules to join or to leave as fandom, it is all about ones freewill.

Social Media for Fandom

As I mentioned earlier that there are a lot of accounts, pages, groups in all the social media exist specially for those who are a fan on certain celebrities, movie, anime, characters and so on. And within those account or group or whatever you call it, all content and new are about them. To keep up to date what they are doing, when is the series or movie are going to aired, so it is basically updated the fans of their details.

This is a Facebook group called Anime News Corner, it is verified anime and manga news directly from Japan. This is specially for those who love anime so much, and here it is basically updating what is going on to manga and anime show, what kind anime is going to air and when, or what manga is going to release. From this, fans are getting hyped everyday while waiting for the anime. And from here you can see there are over a million people who followed this page.

For I myself it is very handy because I was waiting on certain anime to be aired, and sometimes they do not seem to air on time, and here is where the new comes from of why it does not air on time. Not just on Facebook, there are more to that in other platforms.

Conclude

There is no catch for being a fandom, and there is no right or wrong for doing so. It is just a meaning of you love something so much and you treasure it no matter what other think about, not in a bad way. And that is all for now, I will see again on next post.

Crowdfunding & Crowdsourcing

Hello, good day to you all. I have noticed that a lot of people are quite confused about these words, crowdsourcing and crowdfunding. And they are both different things as far as I am concern. Both allows people to primarily leverage mass- community collaboration.

Crowdfunding vs Crowdsourcing?

For short, crowdfunding is a process of sourcing money. Makes funds out of a group of people or a community. And crowdsourcing is different process that is sourcing for information and skills from a group of people.

Do you catch the difference?

Crowdfunding is usually made for those who do not have the access to sources of or need in a large amount of capital, like bank loans and big investors or those who in need, raising a lot of money. Usually, a crowdfunding campaign that specifically aim to health community or charities, those category fall under donation- based crowdfunding.

Crowdsourcing comes from two words: that is crowd and outsourcing. Definition of Google for outsourcing is to obtain goods, services from outside or foreign supplier. Crowdsourcing are quite varied where its using knowledge and power from a crowd to speed up process, and the process could be anything.

The benefit to crowdsourcing includes less time on working product, reduced time to market, access to a huge range of talent. Internet is truly a great thing where it is a ability to harness the skills and time in such wide variety of people.

Crowdfunding and Crowdsourcing in Social Media

We all know that India is in a terrible situation now, and surprisingly people from the world now are raising awareness, gathering people and raising crowdfunding to help India in anyway. And people would create post, an account specifically to raise crowdfunding, and the result are mindful, using short time and short effort this will gather groups of groups of people all around the world.

Public Health Campaigns & Communities

Yello guys ~ It is me again in another week! Hope you guys are doing well through-out the whole week.

Yes, I know it has been hard recently in our society nowadays, it is not safe outside and yet we have our own burden, financial securities, health issue, and many more. Yes, Covid-19 had took a lot from us, and it has been going on for a year now since the last outbreak in March 2020 in Malaysia. And now people mostly spend their time indoor, probably use up most of their time on social media, games, and other social entertainment. And what I know is, even- though the disease has been going on for a year now, and people tend to grow cold and not taking any awareness of all.

Not only that, but I also notice that there are people who still unaware of the situation we in, not watching for their hygiene, not wearing mask outdoor, not sanitizing themselves, and the numbers of those infected are still growing larger and larger.

And from that point, I see that it is important for the citizen, the people to know and take note of a healthy lifestyle is needed, and that’s why Public Health are needed to provide support and notice for the public, to help everyone get into a healthy lifestyle. And better yet, to cease the disease from spreading through- out the world.

What is Public Health?

That is right, this week we are talking about Public Health Campaign and Communities. So, what is Public Health? Any taker?

Well, from what I know that Public Health is a science of protecting and improving the health of people and their communities. By promoting a healthy lifestyle, researching disease and injuries, ways to prevent them, and responding to any of those who is needed or infected. Overall, their goal is to protect the health of the entire population in the areas of local neighborhood, or an entire country, regions of the world.

By that, the team has developed a creative way to help and encourage people to do so. Ways that attract the attentions of many, pushing them and urge them, therefore you will see a lot of news, campaign and communities started to work once the MCO had lifted.

How is Public Health used in Social Media Platform?

Well, if you are aware of the news recently, we know that that Covid had spread through out the world, and that is how the Health Ministry warn and notify us by airing the result and condition of the world through social media.

Numbers of those who are infected, numbers of those who are cured, and sadly number of dead. As now we see the numbers of infected are increasing in thousands daily through-out Malaysia. As for Sarawak, Kuching, the numbers of infected reaches 50 -100 daily.

Social Media used across the world

We know that there are some countries are doing far worse than Malaysia now. Due to lack of facility, due to the poverty of certain countries, the citizen cannot afford the luxury of getting treated for the disease. The result is nothing but waiting to fall into the pit.

The numbers of dead could reach in tens of thousands, it is seen across the social media and news from Facebook or YouTube. Let us take the example of India, I have seen that India’s condition through-out the news, and now India are declared as the world’s worst Covid crisis. And it is said that half a million of cases is predicted per day, for their hospital had run out of oxygen for patients. They are in very critical state now.

Conclude

So, what is the point of sharing all this here? My goal is to warn everyone in the world that we have take awareness at outdoor, observe the SOP given, if it not necessary don’t go out at all.

I am not being hypocrite here, but you think about it. If you were to be convicted, the doctor and nurses will have to look after you, of course it is their job to take care people, but do you realize that they had been working non- stop for a year now. Some doctor cannot even go home if they could they have to worried about taking the disease home, and some doctor even die due to the toil on the body.

What is on you mind? We must be responsible to ourselves, and to our family. By helping ourselves, we will be doing our country a favor being less burden to them.

Activism & Protest

Hello readers, it is another wonderful week ~ 😊

This week we will be looking at one of the sensitive topics, as it happens a lot around the world lately especially 2020 and 2021. Tragic… But I do remind you that everything here is not hate or facts. It is just discussion and let all the readers do the thinking.

Yes, Activism and Protest. And yes, the world is not perfect, and it could be a little pain sometimes in certain moment. But adding logs into the fire would not help much, it could only cause a lot more damage and everything will repeat itself all over again. Let’s save it for now and get on to the topic.

Activism

If I’m not wrong, Activism is actions consist of effort to promote, to impede, direct or to intervene in social political environment, desire to make changes in the society to persuade greater good. There is various type of activism perform on daily basis in wide variety ways, like Internet Activism, Environmental Activism and so on.

Protest

From what I’ve known, Protest is a public expression of objection and disapproval towards an idea or certain action, especially political, which leads to mass gathering in groups of people, showing banners or signs and shouting as the march through on certain destination. Bring attentions and spreading awareness about perceived justice. Of course, from what I know there are various kind of protest like Peaceful protest where there is no harm coming from protesting, and another type which will cause harm and violence in the process.

How Activism and Protest used in Social Media?

Recently there is a tragedy about Myanmar, knows as Burma and located in South East Asia. And what happen in Myanmar recently? Military now is back in charge and has declared a year- long state of emergency, where the event took place on 1 February 2021, following a general election where Ms. Suu Kyi’s NLD party won. This event is now called Myanmar Coup. After these events, the social media blew off to the roof, where thousands of news and posts about them are everywhere with having the hashtag #myanmarcoup, #myanmar, #coup.

After that, protester of Anti-Coup or Anti- Military is now more impact and protesting and campaign are now held around the region like Civil and Disobedience Movement and Labour Strikes.

And there is also a PE teacher named Khing Hnin Wai, is dancing and exercising in front of a massive road where soldiers are lining up at the barricade in a distance with no political intent. Her video generates millions of views on Facebook and had 11.7 million views on one tweet after 24 hour the video posted, now the video continues to circulate elsewhere.

Conclude

Yup, social media is a powerful tool in these times, a single post can reach out to millions even billions of people to deliver its message. If we are to use social media to protest, or to have an activism, we must have the wisdom to manage these movement. After all, our main goal of all these is to make the world a better place, and making changes somehow. Learning to be love one another, respecting each other, and not violence and chaos. And I remind you, what we are doing now will be a lesson to our next generations, they will look up to us and they will learn from our actions.

Political Engagement

Conflicts in different eras, Politics everywhere ~ Well, look at the bright side at least it’s not the end of the world. 

The political topics could be very sensitive towards one another where an individual could have different perspectives and opinions on certain topics or people. These topics are easy to get accessed through media, and in fact, they might even appear when you don’t even look for them. Now, I’m not a very political guy, but I have to know what’s going on in the world, and I do say this, not everything is true until there are certain proof and evidence. You never know what going on there, they might appear like a beautiful flower upfront when deep down there are truth uncovered. 

So be prepared and let’s get on to the topic ~ 😉

What is Political Engagement? 

Political Engagement has the meaning of participation of citizens by selecting the leaders or figures that they satisfied or prefer that have the power in government. Entering themselves as a contender for leadership in the country or president of the state is also included. The voted leaders will be entrusted and responsible to public officials and therefore provide services to the public. 

How Political Used in Social Media? 

Politicians had been tackled on social media since 2009, and it’s not easy since technologies are getting more advance now and our politicians are not like us who could master Instagram's features in a day, they have to master every popular communicator to get into public. Platforms that are the most popular like Facebook, Twitter, Facebook. 

So here are a few methods how politician uses the social media platform.

Engage with Short Video or Short Clips 

Since it’s still in the midst of a pandemic, this is one of the most effective ways to engage with the public. I assume a lot of politicians and in fact that every politician is doing short videos to promote and to increase the public’s trust, videos that are encouraging and engaging. Or messages that promise the public certain things if they win the campaign. People tend to be more attracted to watch short videos more with few seconds or 1 - 2 minutes than whole 5 minutes videos. I don’t know why and guess I’ll never understand the mystery 🤔

Engage with Media’s Post 

People from all around the world are checking media for news sources even multiple times a day to keep up-to-date, as some of the pages are updated within hours. And news now is faster than the bullet train. 

However, a lot of controversies have been sparked by the posts or tweets made by politicians. For example, President Donald Trump made a controversial tweet directly pointing at CNN. Now sadly, Trump’s Twitter has been permanently banned for life I suppose due to some reasons because I couldn’t find his account. 

Hey, like I say I’m not a very political guy ~ 😉

Once again a little reminder, there’s no hate here but I’m just giving some examples here, social media are very powerful. So whatever we do in the media, we ought to be careful about it, because you never know what’s going to happen and which flames will be ignited.

Is Tumblr a Blog or a Social Network Site?

Judging from several points of view, people tend to say that Tumblr is where we discover, to express ourselves or some will say that is a place where we socialize, get to know the world better.

But that question still lies beyond, whether Tumblr is a Blog? Or it is a Social Network Site? Let's find out!

Do you know what a Blog is?

Well, you've come to the right place if you don't. Blogs were more of one's personal diary, a journal, where people write and share about their daily lives, the only difference is, it's online. A shortened version of "Weblog", a platform where a writer is able to share what they were doing, or about a certain topic that happens to them recently.

The world's first blog platform that is generally recognized is link.net, it was started in early 1994 and was created by Justin Hall while he was a student at Swarthmore College in the US. It's a simple-looking platform, well it's the early 90's, what do you expect from them?

What is a Social Network Site?

Now, to the social network topic. As it all may seem, Social Network Site, also known as Social Media, is a digital tool that allows users to quickly create and share content with the public, regardless of geographical distance, the difference in time. Social Network is largely based on the website but now our technologies had large evolvement that our phone each has their own applications. These tools are widely known as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and so on.

After all the commercial about blogs and social network, what do you think? Is Tumblr a Blog or a Social Network Site?  To me, they are both. Yes, Tumblr allows you to write or post about your daily life, your point of view on certain stuff, in a sense of blog. And it also allows user to interact with one another with posting of pictures, videos and commenting are available for users to connect. 

So Tumblr is both Blogs and Social Network Site, that’s my point of view. Whatever you think which is it, you decide 😉
