The story of the 16th President of the United States Of America, and his campaign to abolish slavery during the Bloody Civil war.
Lincoln for me was all about one thing, Daniel Day Lewis' performance. It was in simple terms, breathtaking. But do we expect anything else from the double and more then likely about to become triple Academy award Winner. We all know Daniel throws himself into a role and completely becomes that person but his portrayal of Abraham Lincoln the 16th president Of the United States Of America, was beyond that, It was the most believable realistic portrayal of a non fictional character I have seen in the last decade, maybe of all time.
For me his performance was the only highlight in a long dreary film that lacks the ability to hold your attention. That being said the story line is still very good and well structured, its just too long for me. Its an Oscar film, a film made for the academy and made for America. Spielberg did do a fantastic job. But if this film isn't you type of movie your just going to get bored and sadly it just wasn't my cup of tea there for i cant say i enjoyed it all that much.
Tommy Lee Jones performance was also a highlight and its very possible he could win the Oscar for supporting Oscar. It would not be a total travesty if he did so, although I would much rather see it go to Robert De Niro for Silver Linings Playbook.
Id wait for the DVD rather then rushing to the cinema its not much of a night out movie.
Your girlfriend more then likely wont enjoy it.
Sally field is as always brilliant, but all these great performances still don't make it a great movie, they make it an overrated movie.
To some it up Lincoln is a long dreary film that is stretched out far too long, Powerful at times and some great dramatic scenes but a disappointment when you the look at the big picture.
5 stars for Daniel Day Lewis. 4 stars for Tommy Lee Jones
3 stars for the movie.
