If your young child was exhibiting clear signs of depression or anxiety, would you do your research to find the source of the problem and get them help or would you:

- Criticise their behaviour

- Compare them to other kids

- Gossip about them behind their back

- Show a clear disdain for their behaviour in front of other people

Years later when it is clear that your now adult child does not trust you, much less show an interest in having a close relationship with you, will you self reflect and apologise or will you:

- Criticise their behaviour and berate them

- Minimise their achievements

- Gossip about them behind their back

- Compare them to other people
