did anyone else notice at the end of the movie both veronica and jd were crying in their final scene? it just makes me think of what you said about him killing himself no matter what happened and i like how personal that scene felt. i think he was just glad she stayed. makes me a little crazy. even if she seemed okay afterwards it’s a weight she’ll have to carry forever. bc they got away with murder and no one knew her better and she watched him explode and stuff. my random personal vision is that his remains went unidentified after that and he was never even reported missing so only she knows what happened to him (everyone else assumed he moved away again). maybe im just mentally unwell but it’s oddly comforting how only she truly knew him lol i know he’d be fine with that tho

by the end of the film, jd and veronica know each other best out of anyone. but that's not strictly romantic, it's like what veronica says to heather duke, "The people may love you, but i know you"
after they break up, jd obviously becomes more suicidal. that's when he starts his plan to kill everyone at the school with the petition and such. in the boiler room, he says his motivations are (and huge grain of salt on whether we should believe him or not) that "heathers and marthas only get along in heaven" and "nobody loves him". i think it's a very bitter ending for him.
the only person that truly understood him, hated him. and for her, the only person that truly understood and related to her, was a reckless murderer. they both have this desire to be together, but it's almost like they know each other too well or are too similar.
this all being said (if any of it even makes sense), it feels like they got most of their disagreements out in the boiler room. because when jd comes back with the bomb, he says, "if i blew up the school, if i blew up all of the schools, what are you going to do with your life?"
this is definitely a callback to the lunchtime poll "if aliens blew up the world, what would you do?"
during the lunchtime poll jd expressed that he didn't care about the money since it would all be pointless anyway. in a way i think he's telling veronica in that moment to not care about high school currency because it's all pointless anyway.
i think that before jd killed himself he was telling veronica that he finally came around to see things her way (which is obvious, because if he wanted to, he could have used his last moments to try to rig up the bomb to kill everyone again). they are at their most similar and understanding each other best when he kills himself and then veronica goes to befriend martha.
it's almost like he came to westerburg just to make veronica face the darkest parts of herself, and once he was no longer needed, he killed himself. the dark, murderous part of veronica died when jd did.
it's kind of sweet in a way. i wonder if he was even mad at her anymore when he killed himself. it almost just seems like they had a mutual understanding of, "this is how it has to end"
in the past i've discussed the way it seems like a vengeful way to kill himself, and how it mirrors jd and his mother
i guess a bittersweet love and understanding for veronica can coexist with that, to be honest
