Tagged along with vendor friends to Seattle for Sakuracon. I always enjoy wandering around such spaces and the costuming and cosplay panels. Saw the Witch Hat Atelier premier screening and a panel on disability in Witch Hat Atelier that was enjoyable. Big fan of the AMV contest, the venue for that was Huge and the sound was amazing. My friend and I also stood outside the anime rave debating on whether or not to check it out but we came to the conclusion after 30 minutes of looking into the open door (the space was huge and full of people), we concluded that the music really did not appeal at all whatsoever nor did much else at that event. We ended up enjoying a studio ghibli amv showcase instead. Different strokes for different folks and all.
Finally got to check out the Mercury. Last time I wasn't expecting a members only thing, but this time I did message one of the DJ's to guestlist my friend and I. Really liked the layout and the flow of the space. Frontroom lady laid out some ground rules that I liked, basically boiling down to don't be a bigot, respect the other patrons and their privacy, place is volunteer and has been around for 26 years thus far.
Space wasn't too large compared to some other clubs but it was intimate and the crowd was enjoyable to dance with. Enjoyed myself a lot. Would have liked to go to their deathrock/postpunk/gothrock night but we're not in town for that. Also makes me want to setup a trip to Portland to visit Coffin Club and some friends. And it is always nice to see some nature.
Adding these as a little bonus from my partner who was taking photos of friends and I.
