i look at the flames of the fire which once burned inside me— but now, it burns me. instead of seeing my reflection, i see an empty shell. i try to touch it. i try to change the outcome— but it's too warm, it's too cold. it makes me feel too much, it makes me numb. so i walk out, but my head hurts. memories flood back from the past i want to escape. i want to run away from it, but there's no other place i know. i look back at the curling tendrils of known agony as i step away from the unknown— and the fire welcomes me as i walk back into its warm embrace.
