why does nobody ever talk about angel and spike fighting over the shanshu prophecy?

when spike points out that angel views his soul as a curse, as punishment, as being forced to live with the guilt of everything he's done, whereas spike fought for his soul. nearly died for it. the demon with no soul still wanted to do the right thing, to be a good man, so desperately he would destroy himself for the chance.

and then angel says something VERY interesting to spike. spike says he thinks angel hates him because he's a living reminder of his evil. "cause every time you look at me, you see every dirty little thing i've done. all the lives i've taken. because of you. drusilla sired me, but you made me a monster."

and angel, the man who, without his soul, tortures and kills people sadistically for fun and feasting, the man who insists he is not angelus, says, "i didn’t make you, spike. i just opened up the door and let the real you out."

SUCH an interesting thing to say, angel! let's talk about this. no, please—go on. explain how you are better than spike in any way. i'm fascinated. i'd love to hear how you and angelus are different people but the demon who possessed william the poet is somehow the same as the man.

I love the opening of Heated Rivalry so much because it sets up the show and Shane and Ilya's dynamic so perfectly. From "not the most sociable" Shane Hollander actively going out of his way to interact (because he's already fascinated by him) to "not liked outside of his own locker room" Ilya Rozanov being a bit of a cocky shit (which we pretty quickly realise is a front) to the instant spark of attraction.

Look at this man experiencing freckles and awkward Canadian politeness and developing a fat crush.

My favourite part however is as Shane is leaving clearly uncomfortable with how their conversation went (he does a head tilt like "well, that went horribly")

Ilya notices and that's when he chirps, immediately making Shane more comfortable as he chirps back. And thus, their lovingly teasing, when they say "asshole" and "boring" they really mean "I love you" dynamic is born.

Also, yes, Ilya's lighter doesn't spark until Shane appears which is just an additional beautiful touch.

i could scream about this scene for so long because how did they pack so much into so little and make it so obvious that they're both struggling with their own perceived deficits that the other is entirely unaware of?

ilya coming off kinda surly and aloof and cool but really he's pissed off at his accent and how english sounds in his voice. he's been debating seeking shane out while also pretending he's not at all interested and Already Better than him anyway and now here he is and ilya is cursing his accent and wishing he had more words. he doesn't want anyone to know how alien and alone he feels because he doesn't want anyone, especially shane, to know that this is all so new for him and maybe he's scared but he feels like his accent is making it so obvious how out of place he feels he is

and shane, seeking out this boy he's heard of but never met and is fascinated by because he's so fucking talented and despite the fact that they've never met they're both the best so ilya already has more in common with shane than anyone shane's actually met thus far in his life because they are both The Player and he's thinking he has a better shot at getting around his social skills, or lack there of, because ilya is also the best and that can be their common ground and maybe it won't matter that shane isn't the best at talking about anything except hockey with ilya

but then ilya is kinda short with him (or at least he thinks so) and he's like fuck ok maybe not maybe this isn't anything and ilya, god, ilya able to read shane from the jump pulls them to a place where they're both comfortable, he doesn't have words for polite conversation, but, he's fluent in Chirps and shane is still competition and it pulls them both in and makes them feel comfortable immediately just completely laying their foundation

because they are different and they are the same and they're alone at the top but they're there together

These days, lots of public libraries have a "library of things" collection where you can check out kitchen appliances or yard tools or toys, and, as a children's library assistant, the most popular library of things item that I handle regularly is a plastic scepter thingy called like "unicorn princess magic wand". And whenever I check it out I make a big show of looking at the little kid and being like "do you solemnly swear to use your unicorn princess magic powers only for good and never for evil?"

And pretty much without fail, the little kid will get the world's most mischievous grin and go "I'm gonna use it for EVIL!!!"

i deleted dozens and dozens of google docs going back a decade + and somehow cleared up almost no storage space. gmail is now saying that i need to pay for extra storage to be able to send emails, which i am not going to do. i've been trying to divest myself from using google/gmail as much, but it's hard when 99% of the parent association and/or classroom stuff the teachers send home for my kids uses a google doc or spreadsheet.

I know this is going to make me sound pretensions but I have to get it off my chest. I feel an unimaginable rage when someone posts a photo and is like “this picture looks like a renaissance painting lol” when the photo clearly has the lighting, colors and composition of a baroque or romantic painting. There are differences in these styles and those differences are important and labeling every “classical” looking painting as renaissance is annoying and upsetting to me. And anytime I come across one of those posts I have to put down my phone and go take a walk because they make me so mad

It’s like a normal library. Libraries can upload ebooks there and let people check them out through openlibrary if you have an openlibrary account, or it can point you to nearby libraries that have physical copies of the book for you to go and check out. If you check out books via openlibrary it counts towards the count of books checked out from the library that uploaded the ebook, and they can use it in their reporting and funding and stuff.

There’s like 150 libraries partnered with openlibrary so far.

They also have copies that you can check out if you are print-disabled.

You can also ‘sponsor a book’, which means you pay the cost of the ebook you want openlibrary to acquire, and then they can add it to their collection and let people check it out.
