so this guy I'm friends with was talking about going hiking with some people when i was around one time and he looks at me and sarcastically invites me and says that he would love to see me try to hike and I just kinda looked at him and this other guy was like, uh, dude, she goes hiking all the time and he looks at me in disbelief and i just kind of smiled and was like, yeah I went on a four week backpacking trip and attend a summer camp where we hike a lot, but nice try. and his face turned red.

Welcome to My Blog about All things Camp!

Camp for me does happen on season out of the whole year. I live camp. I am currently studying Adventure Ed. at Green Mountain College with a concentration in Camp Management and Youth Development. I am pretty much majoring in camp.

This coming summer I will be working again at Camp Johnsonburg, a small presbyterian summer camp located in Warren County, New Jersey. It will be my third year as a full summer camp counselor and I am looking forward to being senior staff.

I just love sharing my knowledge with new counselors, so I guess that is what this blog will be. Me, sharing my knowledge about camp with you!

wow if only majoring in camp were possible for me...more colleges need to offer adventure education. jealous of you and id love to hear more about your college experience with that! i mean we (camp lovers) all know how wonderful camp is but someone majoring in camp management is relatively unheard of and im sure we would all love to hear more.

elaborating on my last post~

it is the best because i mean hello im in love with it and really i shouldnt have to explain why its the best because we all can pretty much agree on that.

but its the worst because what am i going to do when i cant go? i mean i already knew i wouldnt be able to go back this summer because of basic training (im going into the national guard) but then i found out that my AIT is 8 weeks at fort jackson in south carolina during the summer of 2014 and then theres the four week rotc camp ill have to do either the summer of 2015 or 2016 (i dont remember which) so basically in college ill have one year where i could possibly go back to camp and what if that doesnt happen and i never get to go back again? it makes me seriously want to reconsider my career choices so i can go again. 

so camp is the worst because as insanely happy as it makes me, it makes me just as insanely sad when im not there or able to go back and that is a lot of pain.

I miss this. These people, this place, the feelings, just everything. I don’t think I’ll ever not miss it when I’m gone. It’s the only place that’s ever really felt like home to me. A place I can be myself, not bothering to care what anyone thinks, never holding back any facet of my personality. A place where practically everyone I meet automatically becomes family. A place with unlimited time to listen and hugs to give. 

I miss camp.

Camp truly is the most beautiful place in the world. But maybe we shouldn’t wish to stay there forever, because part of the magic is the fact that it’s for just for two wonderful months. Making the wait worthwhile.

Just got my new sleeping pad in the mail! It's a Big Agnes Air Core, petite size! I can't wait to test it out next time I go camping. Am I the only one who likes getting new gear more than clothes?!
