In The Dead of Night, in a dilapidated motel in the suburbs of Los Angeles, Johnny ‘Diesel’ Bisset lay in his bed; Tossing and turning in the shadow lands… torn between wake and sleep. Through the open window, a wind whistled shrilly; a wind that was unnaturally cold and smelt sweetly of decaying flesh. In Johnny’s brain neurons were triggered by this suspicious scent and his bleak imagination turned to burning light, darkening skies… he remembered the dead.
Warm Bodies. The Serpent and The Rainbow, Patient Zero. Dawn of the Dead. Doctor Blood’s Coffin. The Last Bastion of the Living. Night of the Living Dead.
Violently Johnny jerked awake; he was alive. His heart ricocheted against his rib cage, sweat streamed from his monobrow, his nipples stood erect from the bitter chill and his hands were rattling like a snake; but he was alive… And he also had an awesome idea for a music video!!!!
With the help of his street gang (Joel ‘The Hitman’ Hodge, Eliot ‘Killer’ Crabtree and Ash ‘The Bash’ Hodge, collectively known as The Tricks) Johnny went about putting his plans into fruition. After the initial set back of first choice director George A Romero having to drop out (his reasons, “There was too much pressure on me due to the sheer ambition of the project”), a chance encounter at a bowling alley in San Fernando Valley led to a lovely young ambitious film-maker named Devin John taking up the directorial mantle.
The shoot took place over 2 days and 2 nights in 2 beautiful houses in Pasadena (thanks Mitch and Shane!) on a budget of diddly-squat; The Tricks and the small yet dedicated film crew lived purely on Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Red Vines. The Tricks had to sit in the make-up chair for hours in order to make them appear as The Living Dead; apart from Eliot who just had a heavy one on the lager the night before.
It was amazing that people gave up their time to shoot this thing and weren’t paid a penny… but that’s what made it mega fun. It was like being kids again; get a bunch of people together, get a camera, make up a stupid story and film it!

Yes, the zombies are scary. Yes, the illegal operation room is scary. Yes, the dark, mist-ravaged graveyard is scary. But you can believe me when I say this… not as terrifying as some of the appalling acting that lies on the cutting room floor.
