So I saw Turnstile for the second time. Shitty crowdsurfing etiquette. Loved the show so much. Something other-human possesses me in their pits.
i've got finger shaped bruises on my legs and arms. I'm littered in scrapes.

I feel a fourth wave emo revival. But it might be me algorithm.
I feel like I see a bunch of kids posting videos and songs made in their bedrooms that are so 4th wave. See below:
Give them a listen. I think they’re super great. And it’s awesome to support kids with their creative outlets. Show em some love. Seriously. Right now. Please. Thanks.
Found a random ass french duo with like 266 monthly listeners. I am now one of them. I’m not super into EDM, but apparently I am if it sounds a little evil.
Please provide your review of this song below.
It’s been occupying my ear drums for a quite a while now. Please also recommend similar sounding music to this.
It’s also funny they’re called Sexual Earthequake in Kobe. Can’t find any info on them anywhere. They made these bangers from 2008-2009 then disappeared. And I’m still wondering if Chloe Sevigny had anything to do with this other song:
Going through a massive music slump. It got a little better after reading Kathleen Hanna’s memoir (does everyone have a Courtney Love story lol?). Had another little Bikini Kill phase. But life is flavorless again.
:(
Songs I couldn't pry out of my brain if I tried (recently):
Let me know if y'all like any of these songs or wanna chat about it. Love to talk about music. Also always looking for recommendations.
This whole album has been haunting my brain like it's a creepy decrepit home in Asheville, North Carolina. This is the album opener and it sets the vibe amazingly. Groovy, moody, feedback, excellent high pitched guitar, quiet snarly vocals. My album of the year undoubtedly.
So I'm a dumbass. Mannequin actually played a show on my college campus but I didn't go because I initially thought it was the Russian band Pu$$y Riot and got disappointed it wasn't. Flash forward, saw them open for Turnstile this summer. Blew my my head clean off my shoulders. Amazing. I had no idea they had hardcore songs in their discography and their popular shit is real good too. Lead singer has PRESENCE, she was wearing a gorgeous black dress with a bow tulip-ed bust. One of the greatest acts to see live I think.
This cover is better than the original. Might have been spoiled by the fact I heard the cover first, but it's hard to beat Karly Hartzman and MJ Lenderman's vocals. The sad drunken betrayal from a woman vibe sadly makes a beautiful song. So fun to sing. The lyrics are awesome too.
Knew of IDLES back in 2019 ish. Boy should I have given them a closer look then. Saw them play at Riot Fest barricade. I was fighting for my life in this crowd. Loved every second of it. Pretty sure I'd lifted more weights in those 50 or so minutes than I have in my whole life. The leader guitarist got in the pit with us and lowered everyone to the ground. Their stage presence is awesome I love the way they dance. Their music makes me wanna bust a motherfucking move. They shake ass for sure.
Cheers. Let me know if y'all jive to any of this.
Albums you need to hear RIGHT NOW:
Never in my life would I have thought that I would like any form of country besides "That's How I Got To Memphis" by Tom T. Hall. But within the last two ish years I discovered two bands: Wednesday and MJ Lenderman.
All of a sudden I was fascinated by whatever alternative country (or countrygaze) scene was happening in Asheville, North Carolina. The perfect mix of melancholy, clever lyrics, quirky descriptions, and funny zingers. On top of that, I love a steel pedal guitar. It's my guilty pleasure. So if you're looking for a Harley Poe, AJJ and Wingnut Dishwashers Union minus the punk with the southern dialed up? These three albums are your next listen. I think if you are a fan of midwest emo you'll be a fan too.
Oh also MJ Lenderman was part of Wednesday AND was dating the lead singer (they recently broke up in March of 2024). And both of these bands (that share band members) all lived on a plot of land in the middle of nowhere. I'll link those albums below. (If inclined read Karly Hartzman's Vulture article)
CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS ENOUGH
The lore of Haw Creek in Asheville, North Carolina is insane. A big plot of land with houses rented to a big group of pals that all make art, music, and poetry together. It's beautiful. Producing art like Wednesday’s albums Rat Saw God and Bleeds. And MJ Lenderman’s Manning Fireworks. The tragedy of Karly Hartzman and MJ Lenderman’s relationship slowly degrading after 6 years. Like seriously listening to their albums chronicle their love and slow drifting. On top of that MJ is in Wednesday. Add in the articles and video docs. I feel like I am in these people’s business. Highly suggest diving into this rabbit hole. I’ll link some songs, articles, videos, and finally the albums.
I literally cant stop thinking of their songs, how their voices meld beautifully, how tragic their end is, how gorgeous their music is. It completely took over my brain during a Taylor Swift release week. WHICH IS HARD TO DO. Seriously listen to that song "Chosen to Deserve" though
LINKS BELOW
seriously go listen
Alive With the Glory of Love by Say Anything
I'm so late to the Say Anything party, but let me just say THIS SONG IS AMAZING IT SCRATCHES SOMETHING IN MY BRAIN. It makes me dance in my seat which is crazy because now I know it's about a love story during the holocaust.
Also their song Wow, I Can Get Sexual Too is soooooooo so good. The phone ringing and the keyboard sounds in that song are so good.
If you are like me and also have not heard these songs please give them a listen.
Me crowdsurfing last night

it’s so weird this british dude across the ocean radiates so much midwest emo vibes when he isn’t like american yknow.
i wonder how he got into it.
anyways he introduced me to the song below and it’s pretty good. a nice post valentine’s day treat for those anti-love decoration people.
