I'm not really interested in Rankane as parents or making up Rankane kids OCs but the other day I was sent a fanfic which had Ranma take his kid around in a pouch and the mental image is kinda glorious

yesterday during a conversation i realized i don't write akane stupid enough

everyone knows the famous mischaracterizations she can get, being a nag, having ultra serious anger issues, low self esteem by comparing herself to the other fiancees

i noticed that even in stories where akane's fine enough she's a bit too aware

too snappy too sarcastic too always wise in every situation

doesn't have enough uuuh i don't wanna say dumbness

naivety

obliviousness

silliness

whimsy

Akane has moments where she's the sarcastic straight man, the one that sighs and go "this is really my life huh"

but a lot of the time her dynamic with ranma can also be like those cartoons where someone has to babysit a newborn who'll do anything in their power to kill themselves causing anxiety and hijinx

you know, the part of Akane that'll put eggs in the microwave and go "this is an awesome idea" and will jump in a river with a strong current, the part that'll see ryoga transform in front of her and still find a way to not connect the dots

the ranma cast passes the brain cell among each other, there's no set straight man

and when it's akane's turn to be dumb as bricks she's gonna be dumb as bricks, the densest bricks you've ever seen

indeed, another trend i notice is writing Ranma as the only one of the couple who's shy and doesn't want eyes on them, while writing Akane as perfectly willing to be open and honest so Ranma's behavior keep hurting her

Trouble with having a public is a team effort

We always go to "super anger issues Akane with the mallet" when we think of her most troublesome mischaracterization but to tell you the truth I think that's mostly gone nowadays

it was a plague in like the 2000s, I really don't see it that much anymore

Maybe it still happens in stories that pair Ranma with someone else but I don't read those so who cares

I feel like low self esteem "Woe me, Ukyo's prettier, Shampoo has bigger breasts, they both cook better, I'm a lesser woman I suck and am ugly" Tendo and open hearted "Why won't Ranma say he likes me out loud, does he hate me, is he not taking our relationships seriously" Tendo are the ones who are really spread and flourishing in modern times

Have you ever seen fics where the premise is that Akane just. Leaves

Takes a train, moves somewhere else, maybe without telling anyone or telling everyone just the day before

with her explanation being "I'm tired I can't keep living with Ranma keeping me in limbo forever so I decided to finally move on" where the plot is about Ranma chasing her to get her back

I have to ask you

What kinda coward do you take Akane Tendo for

when you write this maybe you think you're doing her a favor, you're "finally giving Ranma an ultimatum to make him move", but the truth is you're making her weaker, you're making her someone who can't be on par with Ranma

They're having a game of love and Akane offers Ranma an equal challenge

(also unrelated to the topic at hand but if Akane really moved on and got over Ranma why the hell would SHE leave, that's her fucking house)

I posted a screenshot from the Little Heart chapter, the Valentine's Day one, keep in mind how in that chapter Ranma's also complaining about Akane not being open about her feelings and refusing to give him chocolate

Ranma wants Akane to be honest just as much as Akane does with him

This is their mutual challenge and if you write one of them getting tired of it to the point they consider dropping the relationship then you made them not compatible anymore

And this challenge will continue even after they get married, they'll never stop trying to up the other, it's part of what makes them so cool

How bad would Ranma's brain explode if Akane got boy cursed, even if temporarily?

He'd be down bad, he'd find Akane looking great, he'd tell her the same things Akane usually says about Ranma's cursed form in fics (which would have great effect if she's not too jolly about the situation), they'd kiss and it'd be hella cute and I'd clap and cheer and cry

I also find it to be the only good thing to come out of a boy cursed Akane concept so I don't think it's worth the rest

How does Ranma vs Ryuunosuke go?

well powerscaling in Ranma is already nonsense and in UY even more so

tbh I'd say Ryunosuke is more comparable to Akane than Ranma in feats (and she'd most likely lose against her too, she's fatigued after beating up a bunch of unharmed wimps who don't even do sports)

in the end she's no martial artist, she's more of a street thug (and i say this with all my love)

sometimes can't even throw ataru in the sky when the plot demands it

How much of Maison Ikkoku have you read and how would Ranma and Akane engage with that environment?

I got to about one third of it a good number of years ago

Like, 60 chapters out of 160?

I'm definitely re-starting it from scratch rather than continuing from there

Also somewhat interested in watching the anime, I've both heard people say it used to be the best Takahashi adaptation before Ranma 24 (or UY 22 depending on who you ask) but also people claim it had the usual problems of changing the characters too much like every other anime

... not that the two things are mutually exclusive lol, you can definitely write everyone OOC while still making the best Takahashi anime, the bar isn't too high

You think the interrupted dojo kiss in the skating arc was bad, multiply it by 100

Like I went easy on them in the kid akane comic

The actual MI cast wouldn't see Kyoko bringing a kid to the dojo and simply go "oh, guess it wasn't her child", they'd run up to Ranma and say "so you're Kyoko's lover huh" "she went for a younger one after marrying an older one" "she wants to try all experiences" "shameless but bold" "do your families know about this affair" and they'd continue until both Ranma and Kyoko wanted to die

god I can't stand them

but they're funny

I know a few people like the idea of Ranma and Akemi bonding since they share about similar levels of attitude and modesty

Tho I'd counter argument that while Akemi shares some traits with Ranma she also shares others with Nabiki and that makes for a lethal combination (she's the queenest queen that ever queened tho don't get me wrong)

So yea Rankane in the MI environment would quickly replace Godai as everyone's favorite victim and they'd enjoy the hell out of making their life hell

They'd be friends with Kyoko I guess

And maybe Godai depending on whether or not they catch him before or after he starts becoming a better person

Shinnosuke thinks back fondly to the little time he shared with Akane, too bad he never told her how he felt, but he was such a shy boy at the time

Ryoga's not delusional about taking Akane away from Ranma anymore, but still stutters when talking to her if they happen to meet

Akane still wonders why he seems to only to that with her

Kodachi doesn't even remember Ranma's face, she's haracrushed on over 500 guys after him before getting with the white lily

If prompted to recall "the martial artist with the pigtail from when she was 16" she'll eventually reply with "oh yes, he kept pestering me, some people really can't get a clue"

Ranma has grown and matured so he won't chase Kodachi around to reminder of the truth

He will however grumble "SHE was chasing ME" for the rest of the day
