(1) Frequently I encounter non Native folks who tell me they think reservations are some form of reparations to Natives from the US government. I even had someone close to me tell me they thought reservations were places to “reserve” our cultures (2) Where I’m from (South Dakota) reservations were concentration camps where they sent us to die after they stole and colonized all of the land every US citizen occupies. (3) In the early SD Rez days our ppl had to get permission from district agents (white settler men) to get food, fix our homes, or even leave our community to travel to another on our Rez to visit relatives. We couldn’t hunt cuz they killed our millions of our buffalo (4) If we didn’t get permission from the white settler agent we couldn’t eat, fix our homes or visit relatives because we would be violating US law & could be arrested. Also our cultures & ceremonies were illegal under US law until the Indian Religious Freedom Act in 1978 (5) So plz educate the ppl you love and care abt because everyone in the USA is living in an illegal settler colony, Indigenous ppl survived their genocide & we’re here to say these settler never gave af abt us & never will]
Red River Women
Tina Fontaine was 15‐years‐old when she disappeared from the streets of Winnipeg, Canada last August. Days later her body was found wrapped in a “bag‐like” materiel and floating in the city’s Red River. Tina was Aboriginal and lived on a reserve north of Winnipeg, but had traveled to the city to visit her mother.
So why are so many of Canada’s Aboriginal women being killed or going missing - Jo Jolly went to Winnipeg to talk to the community, police and activists who are fighting to bring the issue to national prominence
The cost of the life-saving drug just rose by 500%. Here's how to make sure you can still have it when you need it.
You shouldn’t have to spend so much money to get a life-saving device like this; here’s how to bring that number down a bit.
And then this is something where buying the generic version can create lots of cost savings (although, you have to directly request the generic)
https://www.webmd.com/allergies/news/20170112/cvs-price-epipen-generic
CVS will charge $109.99 for a two-pack of the generic version of Adrenaclick, a lesser-known treatment than EpiPen, which can cost more than $600, the Associated Press reported. The products are auto-injectors that contain the hormone epinephrine and provide emergency treatment for potentially deadly allergic reactions to foods such as nuts and eggs and to insect bites and stings. The drug store chain said it cut the price of the generic version of Adrenaclick nearly in half and that the lower price is available in all its stores. The new price applies to both insured patients and those who pay cash without coverage, and is what customers will pay at the pharmacy counter, the AP reported.
$50 each is still entirely too expensive, but it’s better than nothing. Readers, take note!
Adrenaclick generally has coupons. Here’s one for 75% off, bringing it down to $13.75 each.
Some people have no shame.

West Virginia teachers just shut down the ENTIRE STATES SCHOOLS.
They went on strike.
They worked with churches, community centers, and food banks to make sure that students who rely on school to be a safe place or for a meal will still be able to get them.
They are one of the lowest funded states for education. Many teachers working retail and food service on the weekends.
They can’t properly make lesson plans when they can’t feed their own children.
They can’t teach all day to kids after working all night to pay bills.
They can’t watch their students education suffer because they are not being paid enough to live.
They are demanding better funding to schools.
They are demanding pay raises.
They are demanding better health benefits.
They are demanding the safety of their students.
Students in multiple counties led a support system for their teachers. Wearing purple to support them and hyping up social media.
More information. WV teachers are the 48th-lowest paid in the country and are looking at only 1-2% raises over the next few years. (Vox)
My mom was a teacher and still works in the public schools. My dad volunteers at the same school. I support teachers, and I support teachers doing what they have to do to get the salaries and benefits they need and deserve.
