setting: as part of monsieur thibault bellamy-delacroix's rocky horror production, jo and rhys are in the midst of rehearsing their touch-a, touch-a, touch me number.
jo sighed — and not for the first time that afternoon. she and rhys were meant to be rehearsing their number, but there was absolutely no chemistry between them. nada. zero. zilch. the seats would stay dry if they didn't get their act together, but they didn't want to be the first to extend the olive branch. clearly, she wasn't alone with her way of thinking. they had run through the number at least twice now and each time monsieur bellamy-delacroix looked even more defeated than the last. jo didn't mind doing the bare minimum with almost anything else in her life, but this was big — this was rocky horror, for fuck's sake. she would do it justice. during their five-minute break, jo approached rhys to try and break the ice. she blurted out: "have you ever touched breasts before?" ...okay, maybe she could've come at him a bit gentler. nonetheless, she had already started, so. "i don't need to know what goes on in your four-poster bed, but if you have, i need you to imagine you're in that moment during this scene. you can just-" she gestured to her breasts. "-come at them. really give them a squeeze." the last thing she wanted was to offer up romy and michele to rhys davenport, but it was all for the art. at least, that's what jo kept telling themself.
whoa, did you just hear that voice? it's so recognizable that i have no doubt it's joanne ‘jo’ marshall. i don't really know much about them, but i heard they're a twenty two year old art major in their junior year. people say that they're easygoing and playful, but rumor has it that they're actually avoidant and flippant, so i guess we'll never know the truth unless you live with them in abrams house. if you ask me, i think i'd describe them as the wise ass, but their spotify wrapped should say more about them, in which zombie by the cranberries, i want you to love me by fiona apple, and just a girl by no doubt are amongst their most played. but whatever, i wish them luck on their endeavors in lgbtqia+ alliance, drama club, and art society (president). i don't know how they have time for all of that, but i can't wait to see how this new school year treats them! jo was raised in a loving home — dad dipped relatively early, as they tended to do, but mom more than made up for it. she was a do-it-all-yourself type of woman. she juggled three different jobs to keep the kids fed and in decent clothes, so while she was away at work, jo and her brother kept each other company. they were thick as thieves.
as they got older, jo and her brother started to get picked on, be it because of their thrifted clothes, the lunches they brought to school, or whatever other reason asshole kids have to be mean. jo's brother preferred to play the pacifist, but jo quickly embodied the age-old saying: talk shit, get hit.
she liked to think she wasn't a troublemaker; trouble just seemed to gravitate towards them. jo was suspended a lot growing up and was even held back a grade because of it. her brother distanced himself from her as they got older because he wanted to stay on the straight-and-narrow. their relationship took a hit, and they had yet to make amends until saint rivera university.
this wasn't jo's first-choice school. if it were up to her, she'd be somewhere like new york or la. but in high school, she found an outlet for her anger through art. she devoted all of her time into the art she created and even generated a minor buzz as an amateur artist in her town. jo received a full-ride arts scholarship to saint rivera, which also happened to be where her brother attended. yippie.
now, all she wanted was to pave her own way and get through school and maybe have her mom be proud of her. so what if she clowned around while she did? it was the thought that counted.

opposites attract / these two couldn't be anymore different from one another, but somehow they work. they may run in different circles, but they can usually be spotted gabbing over lunch or lavender iced lattes (oat milk in jo's, please & thank you). they balance each other out and know they can usually rely on each other at the end of the day.
