thursday
the addition of the guitar brings a more eerie and grim undertone to an already dark story. there is a slight shift in the sound from the first mixtape, and it deepens and expands the sonic palett of The Weeknd. it shows us that his main concerns are about the music, the atmosphere, the world he's building and immersing us. the storytelling is more tightened and has a looping effect, which helps to understand this mixtape inside or outside the trilogy. the relationship with Valerie is compelling, difficult to witness and sometimes beautiful. even if my favorite mixtape of the trilogy is interchangeable, depending on the time of my life im at, the time of the year or my mood, i think thursday is the one im coming back with a new discovery every time.
