((I missed Munday but I was looking through old Vegas pictures and found this video I took while at the Bellagio hotel. My mom promised me there was a character that looked like Ivern in here. Turns out they took that character out but kept this nightmare around.))

He nodded and turned his focus back to his braiding. Just a few weaves more and…. done! Ivern used a little bit of twine, twisted it into his fingers until it was the familiar string, and tied the end of her braid so it wouldn’t fall out.
^There we go! All done!^
Ivern moved the braid to where it hung nicely over her shoulder and took a deep, relaxed breath. The wind blew gently through the treetops that calm spring afternoon. The Green Father leaned back a bit and closed his eyes while his leaves soaked in some of that warm sunshine, and while she continued to sit in his lap.
^perhaps sometime I could bring you with me into the forest. I’m sure my friends wont mind. Daisy already likes you, after all, and she’s one tough boulder!^
  Now. Now she looked like a proper Freljordian. The quiet child continued to fold her flower stems with intense concentration, unaware that he had finished his work on her hair. Her chain had grown quite large, trying to avoid the ending loop. That part always got her upset.
  Giving up, for the time being, she listened to the Greenfathers notion. A day with him in the forest? Now that sounded like an adventure. Abandoning the chain, she nearly backflipped out of his lap to scream and jump with joy.
Ivern watched her run around a moment, simply enchanted by the little girl’s energy. He eventually scooped her back up into his arms with a warm laugh.
^come here you! I take it you’d like to visit my friends in the forest?^
he then took note of the unfinished flower crown in his lap. Ivern warmly smiled and put her down to where she was sitting on one of his legs.
^ah let’s finish this first...^
Ivern held the chain where she could see him carefully twist and tie the ends of the chain together to make the crown.
^see? it’s not so hard! and what a pretty flower crown you made!^
Ivern then sat it on her to find the crown hanging around her neck. Much too big for her head!

perhaps it was because he was once human, but few things satisfied Ivern more than a good deed done. But did this human know of the legend of the Green Father, he wondered.Â
His eyes lit up with delight for a moment once he caught on to what she had said. He wouldn't reveal himself to her just yet, after all if she hadn’t heard the tall tales it’d be quite the shock to see a tree suddenly turn act like a person! But still it’d be rude to not respond.
But how to do so? Ivern thought his options over quickly before remembering that she had originally been following the old forest path before having to stop for the night. With a subtle but clever movement, Ivern’s dear friend Mikkus scurried out from beneath his leafy beard and looked up at the God Willow a moment as he perched on his shoulder.
“Could you lead our new friend back to the old path, Mikkus? I’m sure they could find it on their own, but they deserve a helping hand, I think.”
Mikkus chittered with a nod and then leaped down to the forest floor. He popped out of some tall grass and stood a few feet away from the girl.
Is squirrels could smile, Mikkus would likely be doing his best to make a good first impression!

A Chat with the Green Father

Ivern had heard about these creatures! Weren’t they... descendants of humans and shapeshifters? Something like that? No matter. All that time spent as a inanimate tree obviously kept him a bit separated from everything for quite some time. It didn’t matter to him so much on how their kind came into existence.
And regardless of the how this little bird woman came to be, she still had stumbled upon him out here in a meadow. Ivern just stared at her for a time before gently waving to her.
“Hello there, little one,” he hummed, “it’s certainly a lovely day isn’t it? Would you care to come over for a chat? I promise my bark is worse than my bite.”
He then proceeded to giggle and return to his work of helping the wildflowers bloom. He loved that joke.

wooden fingers gently ran through the little girl’s hair- weaving it into a braid, and occasionally slipping flowers into it. Spring was in full bloom, and so was her flowered home. How curious no one had discovered it yet, but Ivern didn’t fully mind.
Her home being undiscovered meant more time for her to spend with him. Ivern knew she would need to return to her own eventually, but for now they could just enjoy their time together.
Ivern looked down and watched her tiny hands continue their work on the flower crown. His smile grew a bit warmer before he lightly giggled.

    Her homes location was rather … remote. A lot of homesteadders liked it that way. Some newer ones, like hers, were done to boast neutrality in their nations civil war. Choosing neither side had its dangers, and this place had suffered because of it.
    But now, things had a much brighter outlook for at least one of the Freljords wild children. Surviving another winter, thanks to the help of her new friend, meant another chance to grow stronger.
    She turned to Ivern, blue eyes lit up like the noontime sky. “/\Yesyes!/\” she chittered excitedly, going back to folding steps in to each other. This had to be the perfect crown. The bestest one she ever made! It needed more…blue. Like that Daisy person. She would get one too, made of daisys of course.

((If you guys haven’t noticed, instead of making follow starter threads I’m just having Ivern react to their arrival. Reason why is because when I first started this blog I got a lot of followers fast and quickly got overrun with threads.

Of course, Ivern was always one to rise with the sun and get started with his day long before the rest of the forest would begin to stir. He had already set out a delightful gift of some raspberries and a fresh apple for her to enjoy, and was now simply waiting for her to wake up.
he dared not move when she finally awoke, lest he frighten the poor girl! No, he would have to wait for the opportune moment to speak to her.
although, he did hope she’d enjoy her breakfast.
back at it again
“but you see, little one,” Ivern continued, slightly amused now as the creature continued to wiggle, “the water comes here like it does anywhere else! The rain brings it, and then it turns into lakes and rivers and soon makes its way back to the sea where it starts all over again! I don’t see why you’re so interested in finding a source when it’s so obvious.”
he was really starting to wiggle now. Ivern hummed and scratched his beard with his free hand.
“Tell you what, if I try to help you find this source you’re looking for, do you promise to stop bullying my friends and trying to eat them?”
Eternally peeved, the Deep Dweller wrenched with the beginning cusp of, “Nnn-”
He stopped, his visage stretched in anger and vitriol before a devious thought crossed his warped mind. As it brewed in that endless sea of brine and mania, his face softened to a drooping grin.
“Yyyeeesss. Mweeeheheheheee.”
Ivern knew a devious sort when he saw one, and this little fellow was no exception. Pangs of worry always stiffened his branches when he was around. He honestly really didn’t trust this little creature, but he might as well play along until he showed his true blue colors.
oh.... true blue. ha ha Ivern would have to remember that one!
The treant gently sat the creature down on his feet before sitting one hand on his hip and perching the other above his eyes to shield it from the sun as he scoped the area.
“I’m pleased you’ve decided to play nice for a change. now, what exactly is it you’re looking for? I wont be much help to you unless you tell me what it is you need to find.”
A Chilling reunion

The tree took long, slow breaths as he blinked at the Ice Witch. Not as fearful of her as their first reunion, but still weary considering what those ice powers could potentially do to him.
However his smile was still quite warm.
“What a surprise seeing you this far south! Anything i can do for you?”
A shrug. She had almost entirely forgotten of this one. Was he not one of her own once before..? No mater..
“I stated travelling again that’s all. I did not expect to find you.” She admitted, somewhat unnerved as he was of him of her.Â
“I am looking for seeds to take back to the citadel. …Perhaps even enjoy blooms along the way. Green things in my lands are rare. But by my hand I’ve found a way for them to live in the cold.”Â
almost instantly the The Green Father seemed to perk up. His head tilted slightly to the side.
“You’re wanting seeds?”
Ivern let out a cheery noise and crouched down to more properly meet her eye-level. This was a pleasant surprise!
“Well I’d be more than happy to help! A touch of green is just what that icy home of yours is needing!”
Without waiting for response, Ivern was already happily babbling away as he did. He began lightly tapping the ground, and as he spoke flowers of all shapes and sizes would bloom where his hand gently touched the earth.
“So what exactly are you wanting? perhaps some Hepatica nobilis? or Digitalis purpurea? Or maybe some Lonicera periclymenum is more your fancy?”

Another day, another human wandering innocently through the woods. Of course, Ivern was watching from afar- visible yet unseen as always. It was his duty to keep watch, after all. As the God willow, he had to do his best to keep everything in balance.
Didn’t mean he had to be serious all the time though. He was more than free to watch and follow a complete stranger. It gets lonely in the woods, too! It was a good thing Ivern had so many friends, or he might have lost his mind ages ago! There was no harm in travelling along with a visitor of the forest. And perhaps he could even leave them a gift should they stop and rest for the night in his home.
Speaking of, it was getting a bit dark. At the least Ivern could converse with the lightning bugs and have them light the traveler’s path.
Elaine hummed a cheerful tune as she walked, her pack secured over one shoulder. She looked up at the darkening sky, the tune stopping as she turned to look about herself. She would need to find a place to set up camp, it seemed, and as such, she stepped away from the path she had been following in search of a clearing.Â
Not noticing that she was being watched, she hopped over a large root and continued on. Upon finding a suitable spot, she took the pack off of her shoulder and fished out a small sleeping bag. Carefully laying the makeshift bed out, she sat down upon it and looked up at the canopy of the trees, a light smile visible on her face. Forests were always so beautiful.
soon the sun would completely set, and through that very canopy the stars began to sparkle and shine in all their brilliance. Ivern looked up to the stars as well and smiled before looking back down at the girl.
He could see the wonder and appreciation in her eyes.
This was a human who loved the world like Ivern did. Ivern quietly yawned and chuckled to himself. Come morning he simply HAD to speak with this human. He didn’t talk to people often, but this was one who had every right to meet The Green Father.
