・゚: * &. / * HER PHONE DIED A WHILE AGO , BUT MINNIE is still gripping it with her hand so tightly it’s leaving marks on her slender fingers. she clenches her jaw as a pair of drunk students rush past her so fast it blows her hair back , reaching up to fix it –- or attempt to when she hears a familiar voice talk to her. dark eyes look over to the blonde , an eyebrow raised incredulously. they’ve drifted away far enough to not be considered friends anymore , but it still amazes her how KIND the other is to her , despite everything. ‘ i wouldn’t do it even if i had to. ’ she answers honestly , leaning back against the wall suavely. ‘ but then again , i don’t write my own papers that often , don’t tell the dean. ’
margot’s wandering mind has led her to several conclusions. the first being she’s irrevocably a failure, destined to always fall short of what people expect. the second, that the world is constantly changing and shifting around her. the third, that she understands minnie mae as little as she understands herself. the girl was small but held herself in a boundlessly tall chapter. margot felt like she was always looking up through the clouds chasing an impossible notion. she can divide the people in her life into two categories, those she wheres the mask for and those she doesn’t, the latter category is minuscule. minnie was staunchly in the former category. she coughs trying to still the worry in her heart. “don’t worry i won’t tell the dean. i’m not sure he likes me very much anyways.”
rows of people , towers of books , all drowning in their own special flavor of booze . as a writer , this should have enraged him . it should have bothered him , at the very least . but instead , he feels vast hues of nothing . not fear , not confusion , he’s not curious , nor is he aware of what tomorrow will bring —- some part of him should care , shouldn’t it ? and yet it doesn’t , he feels nothing up until the voice cracks his inner monologue , and a vision of blonde hair and dainty fingers caressing a solo cup seeped into his point of sight . elbows leaned on the railing , and trying to ignore the pitch in his throat , and how this was the only interaction all night that had rattled his cages . “ wouldn’t that be considered a good thing ? ”
dylan carmichael had a noble face. it was roman in structure, strong jawed and heavy laden with years of things unsaid. it looked even better in low covered lamplight that wore the flickers of three am use. his beauty made her stomach sink into a place where she couldn’t distinguish sorrow and passion. that night felt so distant now like she was only a spectator to that part of her life. was it good? her thoughts were edging on morose now. a life free of responsibility carried an unsung weight that frightened margot. “i already started on it so i’m quite honestly feeling a little indignant if he was raptured without giving me a chance to set the curve.” she laughed wearily.
this wasn’t how she had pictured the end of the world. there were no leviathans maws gaping with the horrors of god, or rings of fire to encircle them. there was only still silence and the endless darkness the ran past the edge of town. her gut curdled watching the party from the broken end of a ledge. her cup felt heavy in hands, margot just couldn’t shake the feeling something was distinctly not right. she shook of the skin of doubt shedding like a snake into an entirely different person made up of a beaming smile and bright eyes. bare feet sinking into the grass as she made her way back towards the party she smiled cresting the threshold. “do you think this means i don’t have to do my paper on 18th century theatre?”
have you seen MARGOT BIRKELAND since the storm? some say they look like JOSEFINE FRIDA PETTERSEN but they’re 21 & go by THE PROM QUEEN. SHE lived in halloway for 21 YEARS & they are originally from HALLOWAY. before the town vanished they were studying THEATRE and lived at DORMS. most people knew the CISFEMALE as ADAPTABLE but i’ve heard they can also be INSINCERE. for some reason, they feel UNEASY about the town’s disappearance. history
margot annalise birkeland was born on february 14th, 1997 to ingrid and thomas
ingrid & thomas were second generation norwegian immigrants in constant pursuit of “the american dream” a white picket fence, a job with a 401k, and a perfect daughter
the reality of their life however was much different, they were two stubborn people with two distinct ideologies which often clashed. thomas was far more relaxed in his raising of margot while ingrid was enrolling her in classes before she could even speak
at that young margot was content with her life though she would have preferred playing in a sandbox over hours of dancing, singing, and acting classes
though it wasn’t all for naught, as it turned out margot had a natural talent for acting
unfortunately like most things she loved her mother grabbed a hold of it
margot began acting in small time local commercials before landing a breakout role in the 2006 film “butterfly” it was the highest point in her career even receiving a child actor award for it before her career promptly fell flat
there was a short lived disney channel tv show but eventually it was clear to margot that her career wasn’t going anywhere so her mother reluctantly let them return to halloway
by that point margot preferred it that way; the glitz and glam of hollywood had never been appealing to her
though her career in hollywood had slumped as it turned out starring in an award-winning movie did wonders for small town popularity
she spent the rest of her formidable career leading local shows and high school musicals
though her cynicism reminded her that most of her so called friends were only there because they were convinced she would one day return to hollywood and take her with them. in truth she had no desire to return to hollywood.
but she adapted, let them think whatever they want. it was nice for a little bit to be so desired and well-known
she had planned leave the “prom queen margot” behind when she graduated, an acceptance letter to the royal academy of dramatic art in london in her hand and a dream to perform shakespeare at the globe
her plans short-circuited when shortly before graduation her father died
margot was devastated, her relationship with her overbearing mother had always been tenuous but her father had always been able to balance her out in a way margot could never fathom. with him gone any semblance of a healthy relationship with her mother all but disappeared and she gave up on going to the royal academy
she spent the rest of her years in college still clinging onto that false persona of halloway’s golden girl wondering when everyone else would realize she was a failure too
personality
okay so margot is a sweetheart and while it comes from a good place she cares way too much what other people think of her
she’s very good at becoming what people want and not who she really is
truly she’s introverted, kind, and intellectual, but it’s hard to see that beyond all the false faces she wears
she takes everything people say to heart
she truly let’s very few people in because she’s afraid of being judged

the ex boyfriend - every prom queen needs an equally reputable prom king. for these two it was ideal, two popular students who seemed like a perfect fit. but they were only ever dating the idea of margot, the real margot was hidden somewhere deep within her. they broke up a couple months after her father died.
the best friend - besides her brother this might be the only person in the world who truly knows margot. they’re close enough to be siblings and support each other unconditionally.
the enemy - this person hates margot for whatever reason and margot hates them back equally. she’s hardly a confrontational person but this person seems to bring out the worst in her.
the outsider - as a popular student in school margot inadvertently isolated a lot of people without realizing it. this would be someone who saw margot from afar but never talked with her due to differences in social status
the rival - this is someone she competed with over the years for roles in plays or even someone who may have attempted to launch a career in hollywood but failed.
