i'm too old for this much change
When I first became a cycling fan in 2017, I chose Katusha Alpecin as my team because they had Tony Martin. During the Tour's Grand Départ that year (ITT in Düsseldorf, my beloved) he rode that Kraftwerk-inspired Canyon Speedmax, and if that's not a valid reason, I don't know what is. Over the next two years, I slowly watched Katusha fall apart, at least that's how I remember it. My favourite riders got spread across different teams, many sooner or later retired, I started studying architecture and stopped following cycling altogether.
Last summer, instead of studying for my exams, after quite some years, I watched the Tour on my MacBook at my mom's kitchen table and was fascinated all over again. Jonas lost and Wout won, and while doing so they were magnetic and beautiful and so, out of all the great teams, I chose Visma. Just to immediately see Visma fall apart too? I hope not. To me pro cycling isn't, or shouldn't be important. It's just something I watch for fun, and that's what I want it to be: fun. I don't want to think or even worry so much about it. But then again, it's been a long day. I drove for three hours, endured a lecture by the most arrogant professor, got yelled at by my friend. Maybe I should just go to sleep.
