Little Ivy, a child believed to be false hope by doctors. Her parents lost their supposed-to-be first a year prior; Clementine Marberry, in a miscarriage. However, as a mother who wished for nothing but a child, Marbella trusted in her body to ensure the safety of a second chance. And after a lot of tears, fights, and comforting nights; the parents welcomed their precious daughter into the world at the dawn of a new day on July 6th.

For a while, it felt like a fairytale. The young human being able to grow up surrounded by two beautiful parents— who never feared to show their love for one another. Whether it be a gentle forehead kiss or careful caresses while swayed to some soft music playing from the antique vinyl player. It was love, and it was beautiful. And Ivy can never forget about those nightly whispers while their careful bodies embrace their cherished creation; ʼ I love you, my world ʼ her mother whispered ʼ And I you, my universe ʼ her father would respond.

However, when Ivy turned eight— her mother fell awfully ill. The days at the hospital turning into weeks, then months… Before it stopped. Marbella growing angry at having to live her life hooked up to machines and begging to go home; even if it meant her demise. But as any good husband would, he did what his wife wished, and brought her home… Where he and Ivy made everything beautiful. The house was filled with bright bouquets sent from her family in Roswell, NM. Paired with a day of her favorite foods and movies… Ended with one last dance to their wedding song; “ They Say It’s Wonderful, “ by Doris Day. The two voices, filled with shakes, whispering the lyrics to one another. Tears of gold painting their clothes as hand pray against their close bodies… It was breathtaking.

After the dance, and many tears, Ivy and Ben took one arm each of their universe. Helping the loved one into the family's bed, where Marbella was soon joined by her worlds... Where she would whisper a ʼ goodnight ʼ as she took her last breath.

It was two months after that they moved out of the home. No words of complaints left Ivy as her home breezed past her vision. Everything piled in her father's pickup truck and trailer of the rest rolling behind. It was a quiet and long drive, filled with nothing but the rough bounces of the ground and the brushing of her mane out of her face by her father. His once-dark hair and beard now peppered with specks of salt. However, his smile was still bright— still alive... After a day's drive, the duo arrived in Roswell, New Mexico. Where they were welcomed by the arms of these elderly folk, soon to be introduced as her grandparents; her mother's parents. Hershel and Cherry, are two perfect embodiments of what Marbella was like.Making Ivy feel right at home and safe in this new place.

And that was pretty much it. Roswell became her home, and she started working at Sander’s Autobody with her father the moment she turned 18. Her love for anything with gears and wheels becomes evident each day. By the time they turned 29, they moved off the farm to become a bit more independent. Where they now reside in Tripp’s Trailer Park, as happy as she can possibly manage.

When Ivy isn't actively working on cars or random things, she can be found sitting in her workshop area reading books or sketching out ideas for her next clay projects!

Most of her cutlery or ceramic items were either made by their mother or themselves. They actually have these SUPER large piggy banks, designed after a pufferfish and whale shark, that Ivy’s mother sculpted and fired for her. They’ve been collecting money for the past five years!

the sight’s less than ideal for anyone trying to enjoy a meal . froggy hunched in a booth quasimodo style , jaw unhinged around a burger .  the bun’s squished in order to get at least half of it in his gob in one single bite . you’d swear he was starved , and truthfully he probably was . manners cease to exist in his world , and certainly so at three in the morning after a shift . distracted by the particular dryness of the patty , he hastily reaches for the bottle of ketchup . god this place was stingy — the glass bottle nearly on empty . it takes a few hard thwacks against the back of his palm and ketchup as it covers his plate and more than a few globs of the condiment fly over his table and across to the one in front of him . a nonchalant “ oops , “ slips out between chews . hardly sounding the least bit apologetic as the back of his hand mops a dribble of grease from his chin .

Crashdown was the mechanic's little safe house during lunchtime. Of course, the rest of the 'click' was nearby but the ones who were most destructive and rather loud enjoyed their free time at the workshop. Plus those who often stayed at work had their families to look forward to dropping by for break time. This meant Ivy could enjoy a BLT with extra bacon and hot fries without a stress in the world- or so she thought before the catapult of ketchup splodged from the neighbor.

"It's better than smellin' like smoke and oil I guess." They smile, shock washing away as they rip out a bunch of napkins from the dingy dispenser. Ivy isn't the cleanest person, especially with working on a farm and cars, so there ain't no reason for her to cry over some spilled milk. "I got a full bottle over 'ere if you want mine. Maybe you want to pat it a couple times on the bottom before opening it though... I don't think anyone wants to be cleaning up a crime scene of ketchup."

"so it's a family business then?" nate asked, even further understanding the mechanic's plight now. "i was technically the pot calling the kettle black, then. see, my dad was also in appliance repair. so was my grandfather, and all of my older brothers. i've been told i was born with a screwdriver already in my chubby baby hand." unlike ivy, though, nate had ended up straying from his decided path. even if it was only a fraction of freedom gained back, it was a fraction that he cherished.

"i am sure you're making more as a mechanic than some of the jobs you can get with a liberal arts degree," he had read somewhere that blue collar jobs were becoming higher paid positions as the demand for people to fill them grew. "plus, you could always just get a fancy piece of paper with your name on it printed on cardstock and framed. just for shits and giggles, and for, like, an exponentially less amount of money than college itself."

nate did a little curtsy as they titled him a "busy man." what could he say? a jack of all trades is a master of none, but often times better than a master of one. he followed behind the mechanic as he watched them begin their work on the car. "appliances are different than cars, trust me. i would have taken a whack at the air conditioner fix myself, if it hadn't been for my extreme anxiety working with cars. i'm sure i could pick up the skills, but i'm not ready to make the leap from some washers and dryers to a box on wheels."

“It is, in a way.” The moment you befriend a mechanic, you got at least a dozen more ready to find one way or another to 'initiate you' into the family. A family which is totally deranged and chaotic but absolutely ready to have each other's back. "Fate it seems... It was my pa who joined before me. Then I was too small and did some trouble on the farm instead! But when he started bringing me to work, it felt like I had a whole sea of brothers... And in-laws! Plus the rest in between." While Ivy was still young when they moved here, their past felt like yesterday. A past that was nothing like this life, but the kid learned to live perfectly fine in Roswell.

It was still a mystery to Ivy and everyone else if she would ever go through with going to college. She didn't fear the costs or the work, but rather the lack of award(s) after graduation. And to be honest, after hearing Nate's suggestion of printing it herself? Why the hell not! Not like they're gonna use it on anyone.

“Other than fixin’ cars, taking them apart is more fun!... Even if it makes people mad. sometimes.” They shrug, visibly amused by distant memories. Such as the first time she got caught red-handed taking apart a client's car who was just in for an oil change, simply because she saw it as the 'right thing to do'. Whatever that meant back then. "I understand though. When I hear about the other jobs people have, I always wonder if I ever wanna pick up somethin' else. But everythin' is sweet at the shop for me right now... Unless you count the fightin' with scrap and the little bickering with the local cowboys."

Delicate features crinkle with the touch, any attempts at a feigned pout won over by the smile that sunk itself into her cheeks. Despite what a chaotic surface might argue, Lyra is a heart that's all tender; all too ready and willing to feel warmth returned it's way, to uncoil and bask in it's safety the way one might the comfort of their backyard on a sunny day. "Yes, yes, my work..." Pieces that were tended to with careful precision, an act that had started as it's own form of protest consuming her in a way she hadn't expected, each piece a part of her that was sent off into the world. "What about me though?"

"Old?" Brows lift as if the mere suggestion is incredulous, a reaction that would be expected of someone far beyond her years hearing the word in reference to themselves. "Are you concerned you're going to taint me or something? Because I assure you, I've had much older." A joke that perhaps only she'll appreciate, that perhaps shouldn't be one. "There's plenty of people I think are sweet. It's probably an issue." It was. An appetite for consuming those around her in a way that at times bordered on danger, any warnings she should have been taught as a child far beyond something she could adapt to now. "Who says I can't be madly in love with multiple people? That's far too limiting for all the things that exist in this world."

The mechanic, a hopeless romantic, couldn't help but feel a bit estranged from dating someone younger. It wasn't that she saw it as a horrible gap or something of the like, it's just never been her taste. "'M not sayin' anything like that. I'm just saying I'm a little old." She shrugged, even though she barely reaching her mid-thirties. But the constant motioning of their rough hands and stuck joints made them think otherwise... Can't forget her occasional moments of harsh hearing, all of which could probably be thanked from working around hard machinery, and loud men.

"You can be! But I don't think I can handle that." Ivy may have her head in the clouds often, but when they have an interest in someone? Oh boy, seems like they can't think about anyone else, even if another kind and/or attractive person is right next to them. "I love everyone I meet, but fancying someone for me is a little different." They blissfully sigh, simply imagining the thought of being in a relationship with at least someone... "If only the boys and pops wouldn't scare all of 'em away."

"deal and promise," he reaffirmed, shaking their hand vigorously. "i'm nate, by the way. in case you come into the laundromat, and i'm not working that day, just drop my name and they should be able to help you out. not to brag or anything," he joked, "but, i'm kind of a big deal in that place." he dropped the handshake after a moment, a smile still spread across his face.

"since you were a kid? aren't there, like, child labor laws against that kind of thing?" his tone was still lighthearted, it wasn't his place to judge someone for having worked for such a long time. hell, he used to apprentice with his dad and siblings from the time he could properly hold a screwdriver in his little hands. "i never went to a four-year university, but i've always heard from others that it's a waste of time. sure, you get a fancy piece of paper, but that's after spending tens of thousands of dollars. i think i'm better off with my tech school degree." even two years at a technical college was enough to put him off from going back to school ever again. his mind didn't work in a way that suited classroom learning. "i've already got two side gigs going right now. i do appliance repair on the weekdays i've got off from the laundromat, then on the weekends i do some commissions. i think if i worked one more job, i might explode. plus, i can't say i have much experience working with cars in particular. washers, dryers, dishwashers, and fridges are more my speed."

It was nice to be able to smile so easily around Nate. His personality was enjoyable and beyond humorous enough for the mechanic to feel all the irritation from the twins gone. “Noted!” They smile, shaking their head at such. “Well, yeah. I mean I was 18 when I started actually working! I guess I should rephrase and say my pops just let me hang around the job when I was a kid.” She opens the door, tapping her fingers on the frame. “I also bother’d ‘em all day back then to a point he couldn't say no!” Ivy didn't push the buttons of most people, but when it came to her father— it was different. Whether it be their inseparable relationship or Ivy being the only kid, he had always been ready to give her the entire world. Which is quite grand compared to letting her come to work as a guppy, but it made her happy. A thing that was enough to motivate the older man to continue feeding into the love of cars.

“After spending your life away and sellin’ your soul to the devil, all you got ‘es a piece of paper.” She frowns, resting her chin on the back of her hands. “It ‘ust sounds sad. I suppose people are excited cause it’s an achievement, but it's too much money for me. Plus I got a career anyway— guess that's how it goes in a small town though.”

“I see, you are a busy man.” Ivy entangles herself from the support to carefully slip into the vehicle. Her movements cautious to avoid causing any unnecessary disturbance to the car, just like a true handler. “I mean, appliances are the same as cars... Not really actually, I was lying.” She laughs at herself, already unsure of what her mouth was yapping about before her brain could go over it. “They’re different enough to tell... the difference. I would hope.”

it seemed that ivy was more than just a pretty face . although they had been a part of tripp's population for the last few years park-ji didn't feel at home ; being in their trailer was so far from what they were used to that their new existence left them with whiplash . " us tripp's folk have to stick together , " they answered , an easier answer to the truth that they were lonely ; sickeningly , like a lost dog trawling half-familiar streets . " you know , in case we run out of sugar or beer or gas ... i need somebody out there that has my back . my brother is always busy with work or chasing the redhead he's infatuated with , " they could criticise from a distance , as if pj wasn't wildly jealous of the emerging success kai had carved for himself . perhaps if they hadn't been so quick to throw away their privilege . perhaps if they hadn't been so damn stubborn . a twitch of a smile threatened the corner of park-ji's lips at the offer . it sounded too good to refuse — spending time with the mechanic , a forced proximity , twisting levers and pumping tires . they loved their two-wheeler and yet , over the years of having it in their position , pj hadn't held onto a lick of information told by the various repairmen called to spark it back to life . " i'd like that a lot — you got any requests ?? " the younger lei piped up , cracking their knuckles between their fingers , " i'll playy something for you . so you know it's definitely me on the other end of the line . "

She nods, eccentric at such a statement. While Ivy goes out of her way to get to know everyone at Tripp’s, it can still get a tad lonely. “Of course. No one will mess with us when we’re together! Even the hopeless birdies of love.” They fake disgust, pointing at their tongue to emphasis the disturbance of being with someone. Which, is not at all true, as the mechanic is a horrible, hopeless romantic. Yet, what’s the point of crying over the lack of a partner all the time? Why not relax and poke fun at it a bit?

“Hmm, there’s this one lady. Sade, I think her name is.” They tilt their head, closing their eyes. “Her song Like a Tattoo makes me feel like I’m dancing on water.” Ivy holds their arms, shaking back and forth with a sheepish smile. “Or! I can give you one of my heart wrenchin’ country gals. But I think hearing that everyday would make me cheeks a permanent cherry red from all the cryin. And I don’t think you want to see me like that whenever you visit!”They ease into hugging their waist, thinking. “…Or my pops might think I need a doc and I don’t like those white coats.”

"it would be my honor to clean the oil stains from any and all coveralls coming out of sander's autobody," he added a salute to punctuate his sentence. "i mean, it's better to have met someone late rather than never, right?" nate hadn't taken his car to sander's autobody yet. usually, he would make the three hour drive to albuquerque just to go to the mechanic he had trusted when he first started out in tech school. those drives probably put more stress on the car than was warranted. since the air conditioning fix was a less pressing issue, he thought he should stick closer to home for once. "from now on, let's promise to offer each other discounts where we can," he stuck out his hand to shake the mechanic's. it seemed like a good enough trade off - car fixes for heavy-duty laundering (the clean kind, not the dirty money kind).

"i still do my old job to a lesser extent," he explained. "i was an appliance repairman. i would go around albuquerque mostly telling people to try unplugging their dryers than plugging them back in again. it made a pretty penny more than the laundromat gig, but i much prefer sitting at the attendant's desk rather than running around town all day." the long hours spent driving, then lifting heavy appliances, then lying on his back in dusty conditions, left him exhausted at the end of a day. "i still do some freelance appliance repair, but not everyday from nine to six like i used to."

“Awh, you're so thoughtful!!” She laughs at the salute, admiring his mood. Ivy has made random concoctions to try not to spend too much money on laundry mixes but, they aren't sure they are quite the safest or even the best for the machines. “Deal!— or promise?? Deal and promise!” The other shined as they take Nate’s hand, excited by the little step further into their new friendship. And it isn't often Ivy gets to shake on things. The customers are either too comfortable with her by the time or their energy is too, sketchy, to shake on anything.

“I’ve been working here since I was a kid, I’m lucky.” They place their toolbox down, working on their sleeves to their elbows. “I kinda want to go to college and see if I can get a fancy paper for a fancy job!” Ivy has never, really wanted to leave town. However, the thought of furthering her education and shoving it into the faces of entitled suits was thrilling. Plus it’d probably feel a bit better about her skills. “Maybe I could help you get halftime here? You can learn the ropes or just be a, bellboy?? Assistant? I'm not sure what openings there are that don't involve the babies.” They carefully caress the hood of the car, like it was a cow.

It's not as if Lyra is a enemy of physical embrace (in fact, albeit unexpected to any who might know of her past, quite the opposite is true) but the sudden motion is unexpected and a dainty frame paired with heels that were far larger than would be deemed healthy for her ankles causes the duo to waver with the force of the embrace. "I ask you to be my baby and you call me a guppy." Despite the surprise and mock pain within her tone, her arms are sliding around Ivy's frame in a warm hello, even as she sniffles softly. "When will my poor soul ever know relief?"

Despite her dramatics, the glow on her features seems to mirror Ivy's own as they separate. To outside eyes, it may even appear as if it had been weeks or months since the neighbors had seen each other, rather than the few days it had actually been. "You best be careful with what you promise me, Marberry. I may not look like much but I will rob you dry if you don't keep me in check." Words that are perhaps only half a joke, finding use for things that others didn't and often times, boarding on hoarder like behaviors with the thought that just because something wasn't handy in the moment didn't mean that it couldn't one day be. "Goodies just for me?" Her brows lift with curiosity, a moments pause before she shakes her head at the other. "You have to stop tormenting me with these mixed signals before I end up telling everyone that we're madly in love."

“ Some day. But today doesn't seem like the day! ” She lightly pats the others cheek, smiling to herself before detangling from the embrace. “ I love to spoil you as much as I love to see what beauties you can create. Your work is simply too beautiful to be true. ” If they spoke their mine like the way they did the first time they met Lyra, the whole world would know how captivated Ivy was with the work of the bladesmith. All the little creations that the artist makes it's just— amazing and truly extraordinary. And something Ivy fails to master with how clumsy she can be.

`Love`, as confusing and complex as it is, felt like one of the simplest things for Ivy. Having been brought up to a life of parents who were Earth for another rose her expectations of galaxies far and wide. The two trees (parents) had intertwined their lives with such care and safety that it would later bring harm to their sprout. Especially when it came to brash choices on what is love and how to create boundaries with it. “ I believe I’m a tad bit old for you, no?? I bet there are a lot of other people that you can be madly in love with though! ” Ivy smiled, resting their face against their cupped palms. “ There must be someone (else) you think is sweet? ”

pj didn’t see themself as much of a celebrity , not even a local one . for the most part they were greeted with a questioning scowl from servers , a silent pondering of where they recognised that low and monotonous voice from : faceless , nameless , and yet they graced the airwaves most evenings , providing a soundtrack to return trips home or late-night drives . “ i wouldn’t say it’s as exciting as you think , “ mumbled the youngest lei , adjusting against the wall and resting their chin in their hands , “ but it does the job , pays the bills — not that i have that many , what with living at tripp’s … “ a dumb decision , a moment of juvenile delinquency that had pj deciding providing for themself and refusing their father’s financial offerings was somehow in their best interest . what the conversation told them , though , was that , miraculously , ivy had chosen their company over spending time with the grease monkeys back in the garage . not much for a comparison .

" if we're pitting our jobs against one another , i'd much rather know how to fix my bike myself — i can jam things back together and make things work temporarily , but if i open that sucker up ?? i'm clueless , " pj may have been able to seamlessly transition nirvana to pearl jam , but what practical use did such a skill serve ?? " if you want some entertainment here you should tune in at eight o'clock for sounds like teen spirit . it's my show , or my excuse for a show . "

They slide off of the truck, letting their tailbone ease against the vehicle's gate instead. “ Tripp’s has character that I doubt you’ll find elsewhere! And hey, I live there too! I guess it gives me an even bigger reason to get to know you. ” Ivy crosses their arms, tilting their head to the side in a stray thought. Even after living there for some time, she isn't quite acquainted with the community. Other than the elderly who invites her over for Sunday coffee or bingo.

“ I can always teach you — how to work on your bike! Give you some lessons and tips so you don't risk a butched job! ” Something that comes to par with Ivy’s love for engineering is teaching. The ability to educate people, especially in a fun and interactive manner, always made her heart buzz. As for the majority of their life, any of the skills they've obtained were thanks to being hands-on at the family farm. —She also wasn't the best with school, but they are at least a high school graduate. “ It’d be so fun too— and cheap. No payment required to learn, that’d make it too stressful. ” Ivy waves off the mere thought of asking for money, after all they get paid just enough by working at the autobody. “ I’ll also set a timer for the show too!! I’d love something to listen to while I’m working through the chaos. ”

if anyone knew about overprotective , overbearing fathers , it was the lei siblings . their dad had only ever wanted what was best for them — in the process he had gradually whittled down the oldest sibling , the middle , and had all but depleted his youngest by the time the three moved out and headed to roswell . a part of park-ji was thankful ; without the pressure they may have never found their true path , splintered from the ideal of college , of high-paying jobs , of conventional success to instead play in front of meagre crowds with their fingers shredded by nylon strings . 

their hand reached to cross the boundary between them , grazing the strings of ivy’s bracelet to rid the curse from their body . pj wouldn’t say they were particularly superstitious , but when it came to their two-wheeler they weren’t taking any chances . “ i’d be glad for the meatheads . at least behind the radio decks i can avoid any and all interaction with people — some of the other hosts ask for listeners to call or text in , but i can’t stand that shit . why would i want to listen to what they have to say when i’m the one queuing up the songs ?? “ 

perhaps it was simply a listening ear that they needed . it was difficult , when kai was so aloof and their band was solely focused on lyrics , riffs and chords . " you know , i can let you get back to ... whatever you were doing . " a gesture to the unknown at the realisation they were likely over-talking , over-thinking . speak when you're spoken to .

“ Right?? I mean, I love listening to people talk, but the radio is meant to be jamming time. ” She shakes her head, a flash of disbelief flashing over her eyes. “ Might as well listen to a podcast, no?? ” The random breaks from music is why Ivy tore out her cassette radio and replaced it with something a year or so new, which allowed a Bluetooth cable to be compatible. That little investment was one of the best decisions she's made. No breaks or random chats between their songs now.

“ Where’s the fun in that? I was just lookin’ for myself anyway, those two can deal with ‘organizing’ it after they’re done fighting. ” Whenever that may be, it was no longer Ivy’s want to stress about. Instead, they let their body relax against the truck with their palm pressing against their cheek.“ It’s also not every day I get to chat with an alley stranger — who is also a radio host! ” There are always people in the alleyway, either hunting for a spot to hang or trying to scope out the place for openings. The little minutes of watching and bouncing around are enough for them to notice that there is often none. The autobody too filled with a bunch of mechanics to possibly steal something from inside. The night shift — which definitely isn't normal for such a workplace — is equally as dangerous to mess with.

"i don't know if i want to ask, it may just start the fight right back up again," he feigned a shudder as if the idea of getting involved in a fight with the twins had brought him physical chills. "and, i don't think that's a fight that i could win," nate admits with a shrug. the guy wasn't a fighter by any means, and he definitely wouldn't be able to hold his own against two other dudes who had a habit of throwing metal objects at their adversaries. just as nate thought of the best way he might avoid getting a fender thrown at him, another clang came from the back as a metal car part flew across the doorway. he heard a shout as the metal piece came sailing the other way. "YEAH, definitely wouldn't win that one."

nate is surprised to hear that they're familiar with the laundromat. he's pretty good at recognizing his customers, but he doesn't find the mechanic familiar. "i hope you're getting paid EXTRA to wash their clothes," he chuckled. "next time, if you see any oil stains on the twins' uniforms, i can help you get them out so that," nate pointed towards the back, his finger wagging between the two twins still engaged in a fight, "doesn't happen again."

he took a moment to consider their question, his head bobbing from side to side like a weighing scale. "i mean, it's better than the job i was doing before... but, i can't say it's my dream job," this is the most honest explanation, but he didn't need to go into anymore detail. if he told them about the true horrors of working in a laundromat, than they may never want to return again. he'd keep the more gruesome details to himself.

Ivy chuckles, joyed by the shared dialogue. As much as she loves those two meatheads, their little banters are so odd; the choices of the weponary making it no better. And you can only imagine the absolute jaw-dropped expression Ivy had the first time they saw a wheel being tossed across the shop. It all looked like it came straight out of a cartoon. It was just missing the ontamoonopiea bubbles of them going back and forth with their smacking— and tossing random crap.

“ You would?? That’s so nice of you!! I hate cleaning the spills on their clothes. They let it sit and it makes it even worse. ” When Ivy visits the little wash building, she tends to slip in and hide behind an aisle of the washers. A couple of older people in their company whilst they watch the five machines swirl with the men's clothing. “ I should’vd said hello before! Would have been able to hook you up with a dozen fixes forever ago!! ”

“ Well, suppose we gotta see the good parts of it. I mean, you didn't like your old job as much, so— upgrade, sorta ! ” If it wasn’t for her father, Ivy wouldn’t have had this job, especially at the starting age of eighteen with no-real experience. But when someone as burly and big as Ivy’s pops asks you to hire his kid— you don’t really have a choice.

“ The cheapest, if we aren't going by my pricing, is like— forty, fifty bucks. Which would probably go up to the low sixties. ” They twirl the bulb between their fingertips, letting their head tilt to the right. “ The lowest, other than ten, is probably twenty-somethin’ !” She offers shrugged shoulders before placing the bulb on a nearby cabinet. “ It’s not too much of a worry either, hon. I ‘ust know how expensive visiting the shop can be. ” While Ivy always has the financial support of her father and grandparents, she understands the stress and struggles that many of the townsfolk have with money. Which is why they try to enjoy every little part of their job, not only does it fit their interests but they have one ( a job ) !

“ When isn't it?? ” She shakes her head, laughing at the mere thought of the autobody being peaceful. Never goes a day where it isn’t rough. “ You just give anyone your card? What if was ‘ust a scavenger?— Might’ve ran off with it. ” They hop out of the truck, looking over the card as they make their way to the register. Of course, they weren't that type of person but, never know these days.

"i'm glad someone thinks i'm punny," he waggled his eyebrows to emphasize the second eye-roll-worthy play on words. "you know, i always felt that if i were a twin then i would constantly be having an IDENTITY CRISIS. how could i know if i was really me? or, is my twin who i was supposed to be?" nate shook his head with disdain. "confusing my clothes with my twin's would just be the cherry on top of the cake." if nate hadn't known that two grown men were fighting, just from their howling and scratching he may have believed that it was two tomcats having it out for one another. surely, whatever they were fighting about, had to be worse than an oil stain on some coveralls.

"oh, trust me, i would have been ready for whatever they had to say about this old hunk o' junk," nate shrugged, his hands resting in his pockets. the car, and nate, had been through a hell of a lot worse than a couple of bullies. he was glad, however, to have gotten the nicer of the mechanics. "most of the repairs i've gotten on the car in the past five years have cost most than the car itself. whatever the cost, i'm sure i can take the blow. it will be better than not having blowing ac," his ears perked up at the word "discount," though. "i would appreciate if you could slash the price a little, i work at the lunar laundromat and, let me tell you, i'm not exactly rolling in dough."

Some would absolutely die of embarrassment from having such a ‘sensitive’ humor. Yet, Ivy can’t help but enjoy it, after all, the easy amusement allows others to bring further joy to not only her life but theirs too! What's life without a couple of silly jokes and laughs? “ Definitely somethin’ to ask them about when they aren't scraping! ” Ivy knows that even they question about her odd thoughts. But they still feed into them with answers simply due to her lack of a sibling, even going as far as counting her as one of them; another kid part of the Hernandez party ( aka their triplet ).

“ I love Lunar! It’s hard to never be there, ‘specially cause no one else here wants to wash their clothes. ” It was supposed to be a one-time thing for one person— washing their uniform and some of their normal clothes. It was like a little favor that eventually broke into a dozen or so more. The others using random excuses that someone like Ivy inevitability couldn't give a cold shoulder to. —They let her keep the remaining pocket change though! The pretty coins being ‘fed’ into the ceramic puffer fish and whale shark piggy banks Ivy has in her trailer.

“ Do you like working there? ” She raises a brow while grabbing her personal toolbox, the once cherry-red metallic being covered by a bunch of permanent marker drawings and stickers. Ivy can't even remember what they put on anymore, they just know it's one of many life treasures and can NEVER toss it.

Given the fact that Lyra has yet to be in town for the better part of a year, it doesn’t come as a complete surprise that she has yet to venture into every business that Roswell has to offer, interest that was admittedly swayed when she realized that a seemingly large number were appearing to hold the same contents, alien memorabilia that wasn’t of much interest to her. Sanders’ Autobody, however, had been on her radar for some time, a name she’d heard passed around and knew contained at least one familiar face, but her refusal to stop moving or finding new adventures meant she’d been rather preoccupied. 

Worn boots are traveling along the path that led to open doors with a confidence that said this wasn’t her first visit, following the noise and chaos that came from within, any better judgement only rewarded when Ivy’s familiar voice sounds out from somewhere outside of her line of vision. There’s a smile that barely makes it onto her features when the neighbor does come into view, denied completion thanks to the flying metal and harsh phrases coming from further in the shop, it’s attempt at return seeming not without struggle. 

“I’m afraid none of the above unless you’re interested in being my baby.” A line that’s far from smooth but somehow seeming less cringeworthy when paired with the indentation the words brought to her cheeks and the bag placed onto the counter. “I brought you lunch which, yes, before you ask, is definitely my attempt at buttering you up so that I can convince you to show me the pile of scrap you keep around here that’s no longer of use to you guys anymore.”

“ Eeee, Lyra !! My little guppy !! ” A squeal — nearly putting singing morning birds to shame — breaks into the autobody. The task at hand being disowned with a harsh clatter before Ivy tossed her body at the younger counterpart, the force of the embrace worth a little 'oof' of surprise. “ You are such a dear to me. ” The neighbor has shown nothing but kindness to the hopeless romantic; from simple late-night talks to surprise little lunches as such! How could Ivy not let her roots of care and love intertwine with the other?

“ You can have all the scrap you want, hon. ” She pulls away from the hug after a couple of longing seconds, revealing the bright smile that constantly hurt her cheeks. “ You have perfect timing too! We just got some new stuff. Time to call dibs before they notice. ” Giving the friend some found scrap was the least Ivy could do. After all, Lyra was there for Iv’s through the harsh breakup with the middle cannon son. The hopeless romantic going through an obviously tough patch with the extra hours and lack of sleep. The number of burns and bruises from mistakes due to sleep deprivation growing day by day… However, there was still the constant reminder that Ivy had no one to blame but herself. Even her coworkers warned her about the infamous cannons. The three of them are different in physical attributes but equally as dangerous when it comes to the hearts of others.

to say that charanya had a great start to the day would be a lie. she woke up to the sound of something happening outside of the apartment, something she'd come to realize later was the sound of panic. why? because when she stepped outside to get in the car (she was planning on getting something to eat), she was caught off guard by the sight of her driver-side mirror completely off of the car and on the ground. now, as someone who was raised on the belief that 'no one truly cares about how you feel', she did her best to keep her emotions under control, but as soon as she got into the car to bring it in for repairs, quite a few curse words slipped out of her mouth. she couldn't help it! again, it happened while she was asleep. at least now, she knew to park somewhere different, so it wouldn't happen again. " o-okay. " she nodded her head, holding her mirror in her hands as she had her bag over her shoulder. this seemed like a lovely place to work. note sarcasm. if people literally throwing scraps of metal weren't enough. the loud and sudden cursing probably did it for her. finally, it was her turn to get the help she needed for her car. " uh, i'm getting a fix. i woke up to my driver-side mirror taken off and i was wondering if it's possible for it to be either put back on, or replaced? or... should i start looking for a new car altogether? "

Ivy tilts her head, eyebrows tensing in a slow thought. “ Oh, doll. If that were true then every shop would be overflowing with money. ” A sympathetic smile lights up her features as the scrap returns to its little nest. The obvious uneasiness from the other starting to rub off on them as they drop out of the truck, untangling a rag from a belt hoop to offer a ‘bed’ for the fallen trooper. “ If it’s just the glass you can keep the same piece too. If not then— maybe we can find you a pretty color! ” Call it sensitive or emotional ( or just plain crazy ) but Ivy hates to see the heartbreak of a ‘hurt’ vehicle. It was like coming home to one of their fishes being lethargic and disturbed. The sight of the poor aquatic buddy breaking her heart into a million pieces!

baby ?? shop talk is not something birdie particularly understands despite randall , her eldest brother always working on cars , bikes and everything with a motor in between . and it’s all made obvious by the doe in headlights look pasted on her face . she’s only been standing around for a minute or two and already the rubber smell is starting to give her a headache , not that she’ll complain . a distinctly small lightbulb is clutched in her palm . noticing the disarray of the shop , hand pinches it further out of sight . the burnt out , dud of a bulb can wait . she was after all , blessed with the patience of a saint . “ i don’t mind to wait , “ the southern belle announces , tucking palm into the pocket of her pleated skirt , looking around at all of the junk . “ seems like you’re in the middle of somethin’ . i’m just looking to replace a light is all , but i’ve got nowhere to be fast . “

“ Ooh. Don't let anyone else hear that or they’ll take a hundred out of your pocket right now. ” Slipping through the mountain of treasures and a busted work truck like a weasel tusslin’ through tunnels, they stand at the strangers side. A hand, light and quick but gentle taking the bulb to examine. “ The highest you outta pay is nothin’, but I’ll get in trouble for zilch so, five bucks! I can replace the other one too! ” With the amount of stuff people come to the shop for, they outta teach you all about a car in high school! The pricing for everything becomes significantly less when it doesn't involve someone elses’ elbow grease. That might put her outta work but it’d be so much fun having more friends who knew their way around engines! Other than the tools here. Ivy swears they can hear all the loose screws rattlin’ around when they talk.
